No, but that response is actually quite apt. Moxxi from Borderlands 1/2.

If it was so obvious, why put on the show of acting like an idiot? You're a little too convincing, I'm afraid.

Didn't know the plug was being pulled on GFWL.
Presumably the necessary arrangements will be made to ensure any games currently reliant on GFWL will remain usable?

You know we're talking about Microsoft right?
About the last good thing to come from them was Windows XP.
Comment has been collapsed.
In my opinion Windows 7 is just a bug fixed Vista... But still with a few bugs... ;P
Yeah... It's pretty annoying whenever any company decides to take down servers for games, they should at least TRY and implement something so that players can host their own servers/games.

Most hate comes from Metro and rumour that apps would only be purchasable through the Windows Store - turns out that second part is only true for Windows RT (aka mobile). But nobody knows if MS wouldn't kill itself forcing that Windows Store policy on Windows 9...

When Microsoft said it was shutting down the PC storefront, they also said that Microsoft published PC games would no longer be for sale on any services. So they fairly obviously don't plan to do anything to keep their own games playable. The news of the entire service being shut down itself came to light in Age of Empires Online's description, which warned that the game would shut down when the service did.
As for other publishers, it depends on whether or not they are willing to spend the time, effort, and money to rewrite/patch games that have already made most or even nearly all of their profits. Publishers tended to go with GFWL in the first place because it was less effort to recycle similar Xbox 360 code than to write for alternatives like Steamworks.
Capcom is moving Ultra SF4 to Steamworks, but has said nothing about any of its currently released titles (including the non-Ultra versions of SF4). I would be surprised if Capcom "does the right thing" and fixes older games like Resident Evil 5 or Street Fighter x Tekken. It doesn't even seem like Capcom will fix the non-Ultra versions of SF4, even though the code should be portable, because they only mentioned Ultra itself moving to Steamworks.
Namco Bandai is a tough guess with Dark Souls, as there are arguments for fixing Dark Souls as well as arguments for letting it go.

Ultra is a DLC upgrade for the current Super SF 4.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ultra is being sold as a DLC upgrade and as a stand-alone product.
Since it is a paid upgrade, Capcom can't just assume everyone will buy the upgrade. After Ultra is released, there will be people who still have Super AE just as there are still people who own vanilla SF4.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea, what I think will happen, is if you want to continue online, you will need to buy the Ultra DLC. If you have the vanilla SF4 (like I do as well), it will probably be single player only.

I remember there was a thing called Xliveless for GTA 4, that totally removed GFWL from the game, and the pirated SSF4 didn't have GFWL as well, so I imagine all those games can be fixed easily.
Not sure how the multiplayer game modes will function without it tho.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, if not, the giant PC gaming community will hack together a replacement.
Though, something tickles at the back of my mind that GFWL is being shut down, only to be replaced with a broader digital distribution platform akin to Steam and Origin. I expect most of the bigger names will attempt something like that. Hell even if not a full distribution platform, it'll be succeeded by something similar. That's my bet.

Dang I have quite a number of games that require GFWL such as GTA IV, Dead Rising 2, Red Faction Guerilla, Dirt 2 and 3, and others. Most recent one is Ms. Splosion Man.
I'm very pleased to know that Batman AA and AC will be officially Steamworks soon along with Bioshock 2. I'm also quite excited that Bioshock 2 is getting proper GamePad support. Oh shi forgot about Fallout 3 GOTY I pumped many hours on that I come back to it from time to time I really hope Bethesda patches out GFWL on it.
Comment has been collapsed.
You still have a little under a year to finish them up. And that is assuming they don't find a way to keep them going somewhere else (Steamworks).
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh no I'm good I managed to get all the achievements for it already would have been nice if the game went steamworks so I could play it again and gain the steam achievements.

Sucks for MK Arcade, you can't get past the title screen if you aren't signed in to GFWL. - and WB games almost never updates/patches anything they release, not even the new MK Komplete for PC.

It makes me so mad when I think about Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition! They should patch it already.

dark souls will work without GFWL just not multiplayer. I can vouch for this as I play it without connection to the internet at times and as long as you have the GFWL account stuff still setup it will log you on with an offline account, allowing you to play. essentially, just make sure GFWL is installed on your pc and you can play any of the games fine without the MP aspect

The Dark Souls facebook post is a fake. Here's the original post!

Bioshock 2 is in the process of being converted to Steamworks and they will have Minerva's Den DLC available on Steam and also Proper GamePad support on Steam's part. As for Dark Souls don't know about that.
Comment has been collapsed.
I very much doubt that From Software/Namco Bandai will care enough to patch Dark Souls. Just look at how much they did for the PC version in the first place; basically a dump of the Xbox 360 version slightly tweaked to run on Windows.
Besides, all their attention is focused on Dark Souls II.

It would also be a stupid decision to have the past game die just before the release of the new one. I doubt they'll let it die.

I never had issues with gfwl, it has always worked perfectly for me. I don't really care either way if it stays or goes as long as my games that use it will still work once it is gone. My only real complaint about this is how now i will have a good few games that i haven't completed plaguing my gamertag forever that i can never get all the achievements for.

finally.
only 3 gaming platforms left (might be more, but uplay, origin and steam are the one's which i am currently forced to use).
steam and uplay seem to be shiniest of all the gaming-platform - uhm...how should i call them? oh, i know - "waste materials". (need to run them both, if i want to play "Far Cry 3" -_-)
and once again, the indie scene owns them all: "desura", the well known indie and mod platform, which does not (thank insert your religion's boss here the almighty!) need to be online in the background to play games activated through it, but is still being able to keep yourself online anyways, to browse through it. (it's just way less of a burden, if you know, that you could just close it and still being able to play games)
don't get me wrong, i still like steam and especially it's community features and sales and an offline mode (woo-hoo), but just the (very very unlikely) possibility of steam banning me "just because", scares me and leaves a sour note. also, you technically don't own the games, just a license to play them through steam.

Origin is bad, i am trying to download freakinf DS3 for 4 days now and the shit will keep going backwards. no is not my internet as i have not this issues on Steam. Also the GUI is not great but the anoying things is it sells me stuff on Euros which is expensier for me than dollars (i live in latin america), guess what, Steam sells me in dollars.
Origin is bad.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, no. You have to take 30 seconds out of the time you were staring at the screen anyway to do something minor. EA is the fucking devil.
Comment has been collapsed.
Then pay attention. It pops to the front and flashes at you.
Side note: blaming a company for minor issues overblown by your own fault.

I have to agree with this. I don't love UPlay, but it's leaps and bounds better then either Origin or GFWL. It's almost tolerable these days, which is a miracle.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, the true beauty of GFWL nobody ever seemed to realize: You can play every GFWL-Game in Single-Player-Mode without connecting to the service or activating the CD-Key. Its why I always prefered it over the other DRMs, even Steam.
For Multiplayer we still need patches though..
Comment has been collapsed.
I always hated it, and i had many many problems with it and games that require it. Im glad that it will be over with it forever. I just wonder what will happen to older titles that requires it to play.
Comment has been collapsed.
Unfortunately it won't be that simple. Fallout 3 had one of the fewest connections with GFWL, only using it for achievements, chat and DLC. There was no server side activation and the DLC was able to be loaded without GFWL.
All the patch really did was prevent the GFWL service from loading, striped GFWL branding and relocated the DLC so it could still be accessed.

All they have to do is to recycle some cracks :P
I recall it already happened in the past, there was a little sensation when someone found distinctive code from Razor1911 crack in official securom removal patch few years ago. I can't remember the game, but I'm pretty sure it was something from Ubisoft.
Also, I believe Starfleet Command 3 DX9 patch was created by community and advertised as official solution. Let's hope in community.
But games that rely on GFWL to establish multiplayer connections, like SSF VI are probably frakked. If that happens, I'm not buying another Capcom game for MP at least for a few years, joining Ubi on my no-no list :/ And Dirt goes off my wishlist until it's fixed.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm afraid that with most if not all titles from above list we'll have to buy sequels to play multiplayer, but most games should be playable in singleplayer. Removing DRM is really nothing compared to implementing entirelly new multiplayer, if the game depends entirely on GFWL. If GFWL is used only to fetch servers, it's possible to feed game with data from another system. Old garena did that IIRC. But developers have little motivation to do so. After all, lack of multiplayer may help with new releases' sales.

Game on steam with a Razor1911 crack? It was Max Payne or Max Payne 2, I remember the furor over it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, it was hilarous at first, until I realized what it meant. I guess it was something like this: developer buys 3rd-party drm system (for a substantial sum) and then he has little control over it. Essentialy it's drm provider who has control over distribution, not the title owner. After a while developer wants drm removed, but drm provider refuses, demands large payment or just stalls. Developer ends up using crack.
Shows how frelled drm business was back then, for what it's worth, it's more orderly nowadays.
BTW I frequently end up using cracks for my older legit cd/dvd games that used securom, because they don't work with newer versions.

Would like to know if all gwlive games will be updated to remove gfwl? Ie I can forget my plethora of accounts for different regions and simply play my games hassle free?
Comment has been collapsed.
Can't say I was a fan of the system.
But I wonder indeed what will happen to my games which rely on it. (like FUEL and Fable III which both need it to be played)
Comment has been collapsed.
I do not have a lot of games that use GFWL ( I avoided most of them despite me wanting the games ) I soo hope the ones I have ( and the rest of them to be honest ) do not get turned into junk that we can not use... and of course that we could still get our hands on the DLC as well of course.
Really not liking this. Was not a fan of the service do not get me wrong.. I just do not want to loose access to the games that use it nor the dlc they have.. ya know?

It's so important someone had to make a second thread about it.
