Last Monday, a mysterious rogue programmer released new patches for both Thief II and System Shock 2. While initially on a French-speaking forum, it was quickly picked up by the greater fan community (see this TTLG thread).
The sheer amount of changes is astounding. They've been updated so they work on modern systems, supporting widescreen resolutions and playing cutscenes without any trouble. The games' engine now has even better rendering capabilities (better lighting, way higher memory and polygon limits, etc) and even the level editors for both games have been upgraded.
Also, the changes to Thief II can be retroactively made to work for Thief Gold.
Oh, and did I mention that these games can now use the Steam Overlay without any issues?
