Well, that is ****ing bullshit. Hope they like the bad press. Really, putting it in Greenlight bundles and all, then deciding to not give keys is bloody bull.

And of course, I doubt most people who voted for it to pass Greenlight want the game on Steam other than to get their key from buying a bundle.

I don't get it. You don't demand a copy on all consoles if you buy a ps3 game. Why are bundles making everyone so self-entitled?

They put it in bundles that promised Steam keys once it passed Greenlight. This gets people to upvote all kinds of shit. Once they exploited votes this way to get on Steam, they denied the keys originally promised. They got on Steam and no longer give a **** about what they offered for those votes.

If I buy a PS3 game where they say: Free extra Steam key included I expect there is a free extra Steam key to play on PC inside. And now punch yourself in the face and look at the OTs links...

it was promised from the devs in the bundle that a steam key would be provided, so that's why people are very upset, look at all the links and get the information before you bitch about people

  • Don't compare consoles to PC, not the same thing bro.

  • It was in a Groupees Bundle that previously promised to give a Steam key when greenlit and released. To not follow through on that promise is outright lying and deception about something that you sold to people for money. I don't think I really need to tell you that that situation is not acceptable.

consoles are exactly the same as pc's and theirs a perfect metaphor, advertising dlc comes with the game and finding it doesnt, got gamestop in a heap of trouble recently and this crap is the online equivelant of promising then not delivering

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There may be some parallels in some situations but they shouldn't be just be treated the same (like a blanket statement). There's a reason why the PC market gets all these bundles and generally gets significantly deeper discounts on games than consoles. A big part of that reason is the heavy shift towards digital distribution and the lack of a relevant used game market, whereas on consoles it is a ubiquitous and entrenched practice.

I would, however, demand a code for the game if I bought it because I was promised that it would be included. Not giving me the code after advertising it is known as false advertising.

Why people gotta do this?

So many devs do some pretty sleazy stuff regarding Greenlight, I wish there was a bit more oversight or something. I'm not even sure you're actually obligated to do anything you say you'll do on the Greenlight page...it's like being in politics, and it's pretty dumb.

Check his other tweets: 'I only agreed to give Steam keys for sales on other sites provided I had a list of individual contacts/sales.'

'No site has ever agreed to provide me that list and I'm unwilling to randomly give them thousands of keys.'

Is he really that dumb or just a huge douchebag? Possibly both.

No they wont, because then their reputation will be tarnished amongst game devs. I wouldn't work with them if I felt like they are sue happy myself.

A lawsuit would make groupees even more popular among users. This would lead to more sales, which many devs can't ignore. Also, many devs would probably support groupees.

Yeah because that is a better situation than tarnishing your reputation with the (outraged) people who drive your business -- those who buy the bundles.

Game devs are always looking for exposure, and Groupees is the best way to do it - case and point, once the game I'm working on is done, I want to put it in a community bundle.

it was also on indiegala in a bundle and I am sure he stated somewhere at the time that every purchase (groupees, desura, indiegala) will receive a steam key once greenlighted.
That was the only reason I bought that bundle back then thats why I remember, though I can't find that statement now. (only the groupees screenshot which is posted already)

Already answered the whole "not giving steam keys part" in reply to Deltas post, but additionally:
The part about getting the list of emails of every single buyer of a bundle - is this dev a retard who started using internet yesterday? Is that blatant mockery and bluff from him or did he seriously want to just receive a full mailing list of groupees for free? It's probably worth more than his game...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

He's just using an excuse to try to justify his actions. I won't give keys unless Groupees does this impossible thing. Since they won't break all sorts of privacy laws, I won't give away keys.

To be optimistic, one might think he just wants accurate figures, not actual names or mail addresses. I mean, for Build a Bundle... bundles, the public knows the total sales, but not how many people put a certain game in their bundle. This is the sort of data a dev would like to know, but I am also pretty sure Groupees wouldn't have a problem providing it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't even need to ask Groupees for that data, he probably already knows the numbers, but being a scumbag, he wanted to know the email address of every single buyer of his precious game...

I love how the game is different enough from the one in the bundle that we aren't entitled to the keys that were promised, but it's the same enough that he doesn't feel the need to re-earn all the votes the bundles got him. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I was actually wondering, couldn't that point be raised to steam support?

I think you are right, sticking to the comments of the dev the game has changed significantly and thus should be reevaluated, if not there is nothing preventing someone to get greenligthed as a FPS(by giving away keys or bundling the game) and then switch to a 3rd person turn based RPG.

I didn't vote for the game so I feel like a report from me would be just ignored by steam support, but maybe if enough people complain about it they will do something.

It's not about what it is, it's about what the developers claim it to be.

If according to them it's a whole new game then that statement should be forwarded to steam support and ask for a reevaluation. Should he retract his statement then it's just a matter of letting he face the bad publicity associated with trying to pull off something like that to not fulfill a promise.

That actually reminds me of something from quite some time ago that many may have forgotten about. At one point the devs of Orion: Dino Horde (formerly Beatdown) tried to make the game third-person only, after having sold and advertised it as a first-person game. They later changed their stance on this.

Without this http://i.imgur.com/h1UhCGM.png the game never would've been on Steam. He's a person doing frauds, somebody like that first of all started gaining the confidence of the people, then basicly it turns out he lied to get his game on Steam, that's actually called a criminal. I looked it up.

He is indeed new to the internet or never has been to school, not knowing the game can be deleted as fast from Steam like it got thrown onto it.

I myself didn't buy the bundle or game, but I know some laws and this shocks me, I went to the Greenlight page on steam and reported him as criminal with the proves. I hope other people will do the exact same thing before the game actually hits the store and he cashes in.
