Description

So, here's how this works: read or get nothing, your choice. :)

Aha, G-senjou no Maou, the voiced version. Thank you to Steamgifts support for adding this game to the giveaway list. :) You want to win this game. Great! Unfortunately, I don't know if this game is good, and I probably never will since there's too many other games on my wishlist... :( Maybe I'll find out with a 75% discount next year... :) Don't waste my money, please. Because I bought it for you, person who knows how to read...

How not to waste my money? Let's make sure you'll actually play a visual novel if you win one... :) But how? Thanks hope to win it wthog ^_^ isn't going to convince anyone... :) Neither will Appreciate the opportunity! But how about this:

  1. Write a Steam review of a visual novel you've disliked. As in "Thumbs Down" negative review. You know the box that appears in the Steam store page after you've played a game? Well, put something in it and Post Review. What didn't you like about it? Why shouldn't we buy it? And no, "No uncensor patch 0/10" isn't a review. :) Don't be a clown, write a real review. :)

  2. Post a link to that Steam review in a comment here. Make sure it's public, since a link to something we can't access isn't going to help... :) And I'm lazy, so please don't make me hunt around on your profile for it. :)

  3. Profit, i.e. click the big green Enter Giveaway button!

Now, I don't expect you to buy a crap visual novel right now, just so you can review it for the chance to win this game. You could, but that would be dumb. :) Why not write a review for something you've already played? Of course, if you've never played a visual novel on Steam before, why are you trying to win this? Go play one first, you might hate them... :) Oh, if you're lucky, you've already written a "Thumbs Down" Steam review of a visual novel, posting a link to that works too... :)

If this sounds like too much work for a free game, that's cool, I'll just keep it. :) And you're even lazier than I am... :) Otherwise, you have a month. Play something, write a review, and good luck! :)

Ok, so what if you've stumbled upon this giveaway but can't read? Google translate got you into Steamgifts, but you have no idea what all this English garbage is saying. It says if the winner of this giveaway didn't link to a real "Thumbs Down" review of a visual novel on Steam, I'll tell them to read this description. :) If they feel bad, they can hurry up and write a review, or we can ask Steamgifts support to change the giveaway to Bad Rats, or I can look for some reason for them to be suspended or rerolled or whatever... If none of that works... :)

Question! Why only a negative review? Is it because you'd have to apply more critical thought?

Or is it a secretly elaborate plan to spread a negative impression of visual novels all over steam simply to bring about an end to all the Sakura VNs that have been churned out lately, thereby freeing Steam of the cynical titillation and cringingly horrible dialogue?

Nah, it's because I had two visual novel gifts and this was the only idea I could find. :) Anything else would have required more effort from me, and less from you. Which isn't fun at all. For me, that is. :)

I think if you can write sentences, you can write a Steam review. :)

Now, if it's not in English, I'm probably not going to understand enough (or any) of it, but if it's easier for you to write it in some other language, that's fine with me. :)

Maybe if u dont care to write crap reviews. But since i know that im not into reviewing, i wont write a crappy one. That doesnt help nobody and that isnt for what a review system is thought. Atleast its how i see that.

I think some people are so greedy for a free game they wrote a nonsense "review" that helps nobody at all... :( I was hoping for real reviews that make the store better... But I don't think it would be fair to tell people their review is bad, write a better one, even though I would like to very much...

I dont think its because being greedy. It is because u ask people to write reviews that arent good in that.
So of course it would happen that the reviews are quality low. My review woldnt look any Better if i would write one, thats what i meaned with: Sad that only people who are writter are allowed here.

I am sure you would do a good job, more than some other people did... :)

I mean, you explain what you think about this subject, everyone can understand it, and when you disagree with me I can see your point and think hmm, that is a good point, maybe he is right... :)

If you can do that, I think you can write about a video game... :)

Yeah, the negative review part is a total kill.
Why would you buy bad visual novels in the first place?

I've got several I could review well, but negatively? Eh..

This sounds more like an ORLY grab at this point- "write a random review for credit, then delete it afterward". :X

(How about, I don't enter Clannad, and use its entry requirement of a positive review here? ;P)

Well, since bundles arrived most people have a library full of bad games... :) And how will you know you won't like a game, until you play it? I assume people who are into visual novels have played several. And sometimes you choose poorly, and discover it's just a bad game. :) So warn the rest of us! :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm pretty in depth on my research :D
My point was more that if I get a bad game in my library, it's more due to subjective reasons, than taking a risk on a game I might not like.
I just trade or give away any game I'm not sure about =O

And sure, I've played several- nearly all not on Steam, though. Which makes steam reviews pretty hard to do :D

BUT. I did find one. I mean, technically it was a neutral review that could have gone either way, but you nudged it down :(
Here you go.

I guess it's tricky, wanting to support indie developers, but not wanting to support a mediocre game. :) It's like giving every child a trophy - even the kids know it's meaningless when everyone gets one. :)

In this case, it's someone starting at a slow run, breaking out into a sprint, and then wandering off the race track to get a soda, about 55% through the race.

Totally on board with you on that.
As long as the poster doesn't make a total mess of their explanations, if you want a game bad enough, you'll pay attention. Add in reading-based-game + reading-requirement, and that should just be intuitive.

Though, not sure how well this format will work for you- usually we use Steam Groups to invite people that meet the requirements to, since you can get temporarily suspended for not giving games otherwise [ie, in-description requirements are not considered valid reasons for reroll, and deliberate refusal to give a game to a specific person can also be potential grounds for a temporary suspension, especially if it occurs frequently] :X

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sure it will work fine for me, either way. :) If someone who made a review wins, mission accomplished. :) If someone who didn't make a review wins, and they refuse to make one even after I point out the giveaway description, I get a game on my wishlist. :) I'm not going to bother the support people about it. :)

Suspended, I can see the possibility, but that's a risk I am willing to take. :) It's not like I'm going to be missing out on any giveaways... :) Would just leave me more money for the Winter Sale... :)

Not very long to be honest. As I said in the review I didn't like the art and it frankly put me off playing more. If the story had grabbed me right from the start or if it had better art I would have given it a longer chance.

Aha, now that this giveaway has ended I can finally dare to ask... :) Sorry... :)

I didn't like that game, either... Steam says I played five hours, so I did give it a chance... But I got bored with it, nothing made me care about the characters, or wonder what was coming next... :( I won't complain about the art, since that seems to be a common weakness with all these "OEL" visual novels... :) But at least do something with the story... :)

Anyway... :) Something about that review made me imagine a person who had previously used Idle Master to get the trading cards, then later poked around on the store page for a few minutes to write something about it... :) Just curious... :)

Well, I've only played two VNs in my life, and just acquired another today. One of the ones I played I can't recommend, and the other one was okay...but I really can't recommend it either.

This GA seems to be for a game that meets the narrow criteria I'm looking for in a VN. Not a dating sim. No hentai. Good story. Good music. No achievements.

So thank you for the chance! =)

Aha, thank you, looks like another "Thumbs Down" for that game. :) Pity it's already in my library, curse of the bundles... :)

After checking the Steam forum for this game, it sounds like this is an "all ages" version of a game which originally had naughty bits, but with all the naughty bits removed. :) At least, there are people complaining about it. :) I don't know if that matters, though. :)

Good luck! :)

It wasn't horrible, but I couldn't really recommend it. I usually don't play games I don't like, let alone review them (although obviously you gave me some incentive). I wouldn't call them rules, since I can't make any rules around here... :) But I'm wondering the same thing myself... :) About half, I'd guess. :) And for the people who only wrote a few sentences for a "review" - disappointing but I'm not going to be picky... :) I do think someone might have used Idle Master and reviewed the store page, though... :(

So...about 100 entries. Obviously I probably won't win. But I wanted to thank you again for the chance. This doesn't seem like the type of game that will be 1) bundled or 2) given away very often, nor is it one that I'd 3) buy myself. So I'll probably never play this game, but thank you for exposing me to it. Cheers! =)

Ugh, negative review ...

By default I never done that. Even if there is something I didn't like as much as I wanted I know there are people behind it who worked their butts out to make it hit the store.

Maybe I should find something that seems to be done "on a knee", slapped together in few minutes or totally super mazui. But ... no idea if I got such a thing in library O_O

Will have to give it some decent brainstorm I guess.

Well, I guess you have a point, in theory it was just as difficult to make the bad game as the good game... :)

But I have to wonder, should you pay the incompetent workman more, just because he takes all day to finish the job? :) I don't want to say "Good job, indie game maker man, you worked so hard! I think your game sucks, but I won't say anything bad about it because you are the indie game maker man."

When I work hard but make a mess of something, I want to know about it... :) Don't tell me I tried hard, so I get a free pass... :) Show me where I screwed up, so I can do it right tomorrow. :)
