When you put a ! after a number, it means that you're multiplying all numbers together, up to that number, so 4! would be 1 x 2 x 3 x 4=24. As you can see, it's a number that grows very quickly, 5!=120 (1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5=120).

It's a factorial. Quite common when you start dealing with statistics, probabilities and/or permutations, though it's not something that you're likely to just run into in your day to day math use (it's handy, but not something that you "need").
