Another cramped tunnel, but the sight of daylight at the end of it instils a newfound hope in you. Even though you're still a way off, the light is almost blinding. Freedom beckons, tugging on your courage. Before long, you lay your concerns beside you. You no longer worry about whether or not the hounds can hear you, since they're too broad to fit in this tunnel anyway. You can't leave this deadened space soon enough, and so you start to run for as much as you can. Toward the exit. Toward freedom. It seems like one of your legs is unresponsive. Perhaps the fall did break something. Your tapping footsteps stir the hounds from their supper, so they raise a little hell of their own. They begin howling in the background. Their chains rattle in their furious attempt to break free and give chase. Let them. About a hundred feet left for the exit. Fifty. Twenty. Ten. You're there. You made it!

Personal note:

Before survival horror was redefined as "defencelessness", games like Dead Space actually understood what the genre was about: feeling powerful enough to fight back against overwhelming odds, yet vulnerable enough to die in one underestimated hit. It's one of those rare games where everything just clicks. Rightfully lauded as one of yesteryear's definitive survival horror experiences.
