Hey guys, I'm just curious, do any of you happen to know of any game based on small unit tactics? I love strategy games and the total war series is brilliant, but Total War deals with running a nation and large scale battles. I'm looking for a game that features guerilla/urban warfare using small unit tactics. One where you focus on individual units working as a team against a larger force. Any of you heard of a game like that?

Does it have to be RTS? Sounds like you are looking for SWAT 4, Rainbow Six 3 or Takedown: Red Sabre to me.

Forgot about Rainbow Six -- I think the last one I played that I really enjoyed was Raven Shield. The original Ghost Recon was really nice too (I never played any of the others past that one so I don't know if they hold up to the same standard). If you (OP) wants FPS/third-person and real-time, both of these titles are excellent for squad-based tactics.

and +1 to the mentions of XCOM too.

like Hero Academy, King's Bounty, and Eador?

I haven't played them, but I think the Shogun Tactics game and Skulls of Shodan are similar in style (might have the names slightly wrong xD)

None of these are urban warfare or anything but they're tactical staretgy.

Actually, XCOM & Frozen Synapse might fit the bill...kind of...forgot about those ><

The new XCOM fills it, the old x-com games do too (ufo defense, terror from the deep and apocalypse ) Xenonauts is also very decent too :3

In the original X-com game, you could have squads of up to 26 on a mission if I remember correctly. But it's not like you'd move more than, say, 6 of them at a time.

Despite what I said above, I'd highly recommend the old X-com games if you can take the bad UI, steep learning curve, and the fact that you have to run it through Dosbox (this last point can be rectified by using Openxcom). Although the new XCOM is polished and looks shiny, I can honestly say I've had more fun playing the originals.

But if you want a game with good graphics, the new XCOM is pretty solid, as well.

Xenonauts is heavily inspired by the original X-com, its still getting refined, but its actually really good :3

I have been running the old x-com ufo defense with util and ufoloader, fixes a lot of the early issues
