Should this event be a regular thing?
Going to update when I pick the games but here are the games in my top 48: https://snipboard.io/1S3oQf.jpg
Red means played to some extent. (So quite a few to choose between)

You're totally awesome for doing this, especially the clear instructions and screenshots, very organized! Unfortunately I have at least some playtime in most of my games, which means cobbling together six that also are highly rated would take some gerrymandering. I voted no on the poll because of the this, but it's a good idea and I'm sure some people will discover they've been sleeping on a few of their best games!!
Your Monthly in a Month event is way better because of the simplicity though; even if you've played every game in your library (or are new to Humble) you still have at least that month's games that are eligible.

Ya I figured this would be a problem but I couldn't think of a good workaround it. After a few months of doing MiaM, there was a few things I started to notice:
1) The same games were being played by most participants.
This is not necessarily a bad thing and I do not fault peeps trying to maximize their time, but I can pretty much guarantee which games are going to come up. As you can probably guess, these are usually the shorter ones (i.e. Eliza and A Case of Distrust are two big ones). They are good games on their own, but I'm starting to feel like I pushing people into playing a very small subset of games rather than exploring the entirety that HB has provided via the monthly/choice bundle.
With this event, I am hoping that I may steer people away from that a bit and get them to explore their own libraries in a way they may have not of thought of before. They could still technically fudge with it in a way where they could pad it with certain games, but the pool is actually a lot more restrictive than the monthly and I do not see it happening consistently in the long term. This however, does lead to the odd gerrymandering that you mentioned which is one downside of it, but not something that I could realistically fix without making the pool a lot larger (say 5 from top 100 + 50x instead of the current 5 from top 48 +24x).
2) The same people were joining every week:
Again, this is not an issue and I'm glad that a group of peeps have enjoyed taking part in MiaM. However, the event is not the best at bringing in new people and that is a long term issue. Not everyone buys every monthly/choice that comes out and even then, not everyone claims every game within that bundle. Some buy it because it includes one or two games that they are really interested in, and they then give out/trade the rest. So while someone may like the idea of the event and may want to participate, there is the very real possibility of them not being able to do so because they do not have enough games or ran out of games after X months. While it is true that someone could just buy a Choice bundle and have enough games to last 2 months worth of events, I do not want to force someone to play a game just for the sake of the event. If you are working to have fun, you are not having fun.
There was also the issue of people purposefully holding back, knowing they had a limited amount of games which qualified, because they didn't want to use them on a giveaway which they were somewhat interested in with the fear that something higher up on their wishlist will show up in a later month. I purposefully pick games that are high up on the community wishlist in the hopes of attracting people, so this is a real concern and I'm not going to fault people over it. While I'm fine with the number of entries that MiaM brings in now (around the mid 20s - 30s), I'm keeping an eye on it just incase I need to tweak things in the future.
My hope with this event is that people who want to join, will join and not feel penalized to do so in any given month. It technically makes every game on Steam eligible but forces users to prioritize their library in a way (I hope) that is fun. There is little downside to sorting it in this manner since the community at large has agreed that these games are generally good, so while I may restrict users on the number of games they can choose from, there shouldn't be any "bad" choices. These are games that people went out of their way to buy and hopefully were planning on playing one day anyway, and since the majority of those who played them think they are great, the user should feel the same way (most of the time at least).
I do agree that MiaM is a lot more simple and easier to manage. XD

Yeah that's true, there is a lot to think about in all of this, and no magic solution.. Good luck lol, it is a very fun community event!

Regarding number 1 - Could you maybe change it to HLTB stats as an idea?
As an example: 30 hours (more?) in the month to be played by HLTB Beaten criteria. Could be made up of a single game, or multiple games to reach that.
I find that events like this I do try to look for a combination of longer and shorter games, but tend to pick short ones to make sure I complete the challenge!

Well, I ran into some problems, my "best" games either beaten or at least played.
So I scraped what I could from the first 4 pages. I really hoped to scroll one more row, to play Undertale :\
My list:
Some games can show some playing time due to card idling.
UPD. I just realized I made it 7x3 not 8x3 T_T

Pikuniku | Beaten | 4.7 | Achievements | Silly (in a good way) charming and feels good under the fingers. |
The Supper | Beaten | 0,4 | Screenshot | Meh. Short story, which sounds like an old Italian fairytale with basic and clunky point-and-click gameplay. |
Smile for Me | Beaten | 4.6 | Achievements | Best of the bunch, fun, sincere, and very Psychonauts-ish. Strong Recommendation. |
Hylics | Beaten | 4.9 | Screenshot | It was a fun acid experience, even so, I hate jRPG mechanics. |

For the first time I am not sure about the game picks due to most of my games being played, and I don't know what exactly qualifies.
This selection should be alright, right?

Normally I prefer to take my time, playing particular games while exploring liesurely and aiming for full completion if I can and enjoy the game enough. I'll have to ignore that in this ocassion though, and rush a bit in order to get the games done in time. I'll be picking these ones
Marked in red: played or not applicable (I like roguelikes... lites? which means there's no real definite campaign to beat, or at least, I think that's how it would be considered) * EDIT: probably should have marked Dirt and Kingdom: Classic as well, not that I will pick them anyway. Not sure about Total Shogun either. But now I'm thinking, I might have been able to pick from other games too. Doesn't matter much.

Sorry but there is no way for me to verify without a screenshot or achievements. I can't count it unless I have one of those two things.

I'm thinking about it but only if I'm allowed to play A Hat in Time which I played for about 20 min and idled the rest for cards. (I don't remember why I stopped playing it but I planned on playing it for a long time now.)
Edit: I saw that I played Gunpoint before, so I'm maybe playing The Coma 2 instead.

I have seen your Monthly in a Month, but never participated in it. I guess i was too lazy checking which games were into monthly from ones i had. This one looks more straight forward :)
But i do have a question though :D I have plenty of games that i have played before getting them on steam and that is the reason i got them on steam in the end. So are those considered played or not for event? I guess not, but just checking ^_^
I have rows of 9, so 54 games total.

Thoughts on games? Well...
Antichamber is an awesome first person puzzle with a mind breaking spatial mechanics. I don't know why I ignored it for so long. Probably I didn't like the visual style.
Half-Life is Half-Life. It was a surprise for me that I didn't play the original game on my Steam account. The remake, mods or buggy pirate version like 15 years ago - yeah, but not the original.
My Brother Rabbit is a nice HOG. Short and simple.
Smile For Me is just a weird game. The gameplay is catchy, characters are funny, but the game is still really weird.
TSIOQUE is a cute point-n-click game. I like everything except the length. It's too short.
The format isn't exactly what you ask for, but I hope that's ok. I marked with a red cross not eligible games: played, finished or can not be finished.

I'll try to beat the following games:
I played these games:
A Short Hike
This one was a really nice and chilling short game - with some humor sprinkled into it everywhere.
Though the automatic-camera sometimes was pretty annyoing.
Linelight
A neat puzzle game with pretty simple mechanics, that gradually get step by step a little more difficult but never too difficult.
Really had a blast with this game.
Finding Paradise
Loved this one the same as To the Moon - Beautiful soundtrack and story mixed with humor I really like and easy but somehow annyoing gameplay. Because it messes a little bit with the flow of the story.
Really games you should have experienced (though maybe they would work better just as visual novels and not as games).
South Park: The Stick of Truth
Never watched South Park, but damn this totally (politically) incorrect humor is just too good.
Even just reading all the descriptions of Items in game was something....
The Wolf Among Us
Finally gotten to the first of my games (I already own...) from Telltale and even though I never heard of Fables before, the premise alone is awesome. Kept me glued to my seat like a season of a series to watch.
Sadly there is no option to skip any dialogue you already heard for multiple playthroughts to see other outcomes of scenes. Would have loved to see all the alternative ways.
All in all I'm glad I finally got around to play a couple of really amazing games from my backlog.
Thanks for the nice event. :)

Another interesting event idea :o
Looking at the first few rows of my library sorted like this has made me realize that I have an obscene amount of VNs that are untouched.
From these rows I'm going to aim to 100% these ones:

---|---|
Dishonored | Not Started |
fault - milestone two side:above | Not Started |
Steins;Gate | Not Started |
Agent A: A puzzle in disguise | Not Started |
Eden* | Not Started |
Let me know if you'd like me to change any of them for another game, the ones with red crosses are the ones I've played already. :D

But I have 5 games at 100% (blue) and another 3 beaten (red) from my 24 top reviewed.
I'll just leave here so you guys can appreciate these great games.
Edit: Need help formating...

Such a cool idea for an event. Taking the screenshot, I realized I had actually played quite a lot of these but there are some scrumptious ones in the leftovers (looks like I'm going to play some Lucas Games!) so here we go
Lethal League Blaze was fun but it's not a game I would go back to again and again. The raving reviews surprise me a little.
Day of the Tentacle, what can I say? One of my favorite Lucas Games and the remaster doesn't disappoint. It has everything that made the original great (the humor, zany puzzles, hilarious characters, TIME. TRAVEL.) with the added bonus of awesome visuals and remastered sound.
The Secret of Monkey Island in comparison... well I loved playing the game again and everything is as fun as it was (still prefer the sequel though) but the remaster... eh. I ended up playing 90% of the game with the original extreme pixel art, and thus missed out on the voice acting, which is a shame but the remastered visuals, while remastered, look so damn ugly. I don't know why they picked such ugly art.
Also no achievements? Come on! Where are my cheevos?? Day of the Tentacle had such funny achievements!
A Hat in Time was pretty fun. I tend to suck at this type of game but I enjoyed it anyway. I was disappointed a lot of achievements were DLC related but I'll definitely play again and probably grab the DLC eventually so it's nice to have new content
I wouldn't rate Yoku's Island Express in the Top 20 of games I've played but it is a very fun, relaxing, not too challenging but definitely not boring, little game with very fresh game mechanics so i get the Steam rating. I may go back to it to 100% next time I play a tense, heavy or dark game, just for a palate and eye cleanser though.
Game | Status | Playtime | Achievements |
---|---|---|---|
Day of the Tentacle | Completed | 4.2h (HLTB) | 58/58 |
Lethal League Blaze | Beaten | 12.2h / HLTB (1.5h) | 10/15 |
The Secret of Monkey Island | Completed | 8.4h / HLTB (6.5h) | N/A (Boooo!!) |
A Hat in Time | Beaten | 14h / HLTB (9h) | 28/46 |

Hey all, its your local Zoidberg again and it is time to make the bank regret their decision on giving me credit :D.
The challenge is simple: Play and beat 5 out of the top 24 games (according to Steam reviews), starting today, that you currently own in one month.
The prize: 5x Hades
Note: This means I'm giving away five copies of the game and will have 5 winners.
Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 5 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 5 +30h games. So long as they are one of your top games, we are good. Also, price of the game does not matter. If the game is free, that is okay.
How to enter: Post a comment with a screenshot showing your steam library sorted by "Steam Review" (example below - Picture 1). Also include either screenshots/achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.
FAQ:
What if have already played most or all of my top games?
First, congrats! :D
Second, screw you, you show off -.- jealous
Third, scroll down a row and take two screenshots. One showing the original top games in your library. The second showing the new row of games which include the ones you played for this event. (Example below - Picture 2)
How far down can I scroll? Can I scroll indefinitely? :D
-.-
I'm allowing 3 extra rows of games. That is 8 per row or 24 extra games for a total of 48. If you are still unable to find 5 games within that group, you can keep scrolling down with the condition that you have no more than 10 games to choose from. I.e. You can only go pass your top 48 if you have already played at least 38 your top games. Next three rows would put you at 72; you need to play at least 62 before going to the next 24 and so and so forth.
What about that other event "Monthly in a month"? Can one game count for both events?
I was on the fence about this one but the answer is yes. If you play a game that satisfies the conditions of this event and the other event (either the one that is currently running and the next edition which starts on Friday), then it can be applied to both. Just keep in mind that the other event doesn't start until the new HB Choice/Monthly launches, so if you play a game now with the intention of having it apply to both, you need to wait till after HB releases the new bundle on Friday. Otherwise, you could only apply it to the edition which is about to end this weekend.*
I want you guys to have fun. I don't need you guys to hate me for making you play 11 games this month. :p
Why 5/24?
24 since it is the most I could fit in a screenshot by putting the steam client on full screen. 5 seemed like a decent target.
Event ends on Jan 1st, 10pm EST. For all that is holy, do not wait till the last minute to submit your entry. I do not need to spend New Year's Day refreshing the thread to make sure I got everyone.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
P.S. Feel free to comment below your thoughts about the event and your answer to the poll.
