i was asking myself same question few weeks ago. In the end i bought wired one, mostly because people were recommending it ;). It works fine but cable is quite long so if you plan to play from a short distance from pc then big pile of cable might be annoying, at least for me it is. I think i would pick wireless this time.
About gaming with controller i think its overrated...
Only genre where it shines are sport games, makes it 10 times easier to play the game. Its decent in racing games but nowhere near wheel. When it comes to action games(like Assassin's Creed or Dishonored) i have really mixed feelings. You control camera movement with right stick which is really annoying when you have to fight and move camera around in same time. Maybe you can get use to it but kb+mouse works just fine so no reason to do it. In everything else kb+mouse> controller. That said controller is still necessary considering how many pc ports play like shit with kb+mouse

It is also very good for beat 'em up style games like Devil May Cry
But something so I won't go OFF topic:
For PC get a wired controller. There can be issues with the wireless one on PC, also you'll need a receiver which isn't cheap either. I had a wireless one, but got fed up with it's issues and got a wired one. This works perfect.

Really? Only thing I don't like it with is FPS games really and games that obviously cant be played with controllers such as certain RPG's and RTS games. Most people I know tend to think the same about it. Opinions I guess.
I would not play a racing game, 3rd person fighter, platformer, 2d side scroller game with kb/m, so uncomfortable for me, that said, wired is always best.

wired, easy plug and play and can be used on the xbox. I use it myself. Just make sure its by MICROSOFT!!! all the rest are dodgy!

I'm having the same thoughts too, and I think I'm gonna buy a wired one. Was opting for wireless for simplicity's sake and style, but having some more potential problems to come isn't worth it.
But guys, really? You need to buy a separate receiver? Then that's Xbox 360's controller you guys are talking about. You know, there exists something like Xbox 360 Controller for Windows and the wireless version has it's very own Microsoft original receiver. It's meant to be used on PC, just fyi.

Don't forget the play n charge wont let you use the wireless controller on a pc, you still need the adapter.

You mentioned the play n charge so i assumed you were talking about the one they sell for xbox itself, i have never seen one that came with both the adapter and play n charge.

The one that is labeled "for windows" comes with the usb wireless adapter for connecting it to your computer. But, it's also $10 to $15 more than just the controller that's sold for the 360. There are actually 3 versions they sell:
1 - Just the wireless 360 controller (for xbox)
2 - wireless 360 controller with play & charge kit (for xbox)
3 - wireless 360 controller "for windows" with wireless adapter (for PC)
If you're buying a new wireless 360 controller for use on PC, the only option you have is to buy the "for windows" version because you can't really buy the (official) wireless adapter by itself any more. You also have to buy the play & charge kit separately in this case since buying the controller pack that includes it doesn't include the wireless receiver.
This is easiest to tell because the first 2 options come in the white & green "xbox 360" packaging, where as the 3rd option comes in the traditional red "microsoft PC hardware" packaging.

I have a wired one, i wanted to get the wireless adapter since i already had several wireless xbox controllers but they don't sell it by itself anymore. Only stand alone ones i found were the really crappy knockoffs which according to the reviews for it, break within a week. Reason i got mine was for gta4 since they thought making controls for the helicopter require 3 hands to use was a good idea.
But ya, if you have your tower close to where you sit and can route the cord well enough you won't really notice it's there. The only problem i have with the wired one is that there is no way to shut it off other than unplugging it which is a pain, luckily it doesn't do anything unless a game that supports it is open (which is pretty much all games nowadays) so you won't accidentally open stuff. You can get the wired ones for super cheap, i got mine for for like $15 on newegg during a sale a couple years ago.
To the people saying get wired because it also works with the xbox, the wireless one will also work with the xbox. They are exactly the same, the only difference is the one marked "for windows" comes with the adapter.e left over in a shop which is unlikely since they stopped making it by itself several years ago. Also keep in mind the wireless xbox controllers eat batteries like candy unless you have the play n charge kit which still drains fairly quick.

The rechargable batteries with the play & charge kit last a pretty long time. I've used my controller for 10+ hours and the battery level was still over 50%. The battery will only go dead if forget to plug it in for days at a time. If you always plug it in whenever you're done using it, the battery will never die. Unless you're playing for like 20 straight hours, but in that case battery life is probably the least of your worries lol.

I had several sets for multiple controllers and they drained fast even with rumble off. (hate rumble) Guess i just got bad sets. Mine always drained completely in like 6-8 hours. Still lasted longer than my turtle beach x31's, those things would chew through batteries like nothing, if i didn't have rechargables i would have gone nuts.

i have both. one for playing on xbox and a wired one for both xbox and pc gameing. i tell you what. if i could buy them all over again. i would have more wired ones. their is a device you could get for pc that let's you hook up wireless ones though that does the same job except no cordes. especially useful for playing multi player on a single pc.

If you are using it on a desktop PC, you might as well get wired because you won't be sitting very far away, and you have to buy a wireless adapter as well if you don't have one already for the wireless controller. If you are using it with a TV, wireless is probably worth it.

I'd say wired.. When I bought mine there was not really any hesitation since wireless requires batteries and are usually more fragiles. Well the wires ones are less comfy and you're screwed up if it comes to cut or something but..
And do not buy an official microsoft controller. Mine is crappy and I could read that I'm not the only one in that shit.. Someone recommanded me something else but I can't remember the name.. well it's something well known so it wouldn't be hard to find it but just don't buy an official microsoft controller.

Wired
No batteries to worry about.
0 downtime (no charging time to waste)
Less input lag since everything goes faster through the wire. (Important for certain type of games)
Easier to make it work in different scenarios like a Mac, Linux etc
Lighter in weight
0 RF EMR emission (if you are obsessed with it)
Cheaper
Need to say more?

Wireless for the win. I am able to pay that 25$ more for wireless adapter. Wire is pain in ass its everywhere and annoying as fuck. Sadly i made that mistake and bought wired. If i could i would swap for wireless.

wired all day. why pay for batteries? they are stupidly expensive. and its not like you ever need to take the controller further than the cord reaches.
and stay away from over priced official Microsoft ones. they are not worth the price, and the Rock Candy one I bought actually is a little different shape (that I love) and its joysticks are way more responsive than the official one.

Wired, I do not like dealing with any input lag. That and it is cheaper due to not requiring batteries. Oddly enough I am using an official xbox360 controller for a long time now and have not had issues with it, so not sure why some other people posting here are having issues. The controller I had in the past was not official and it broke after a few months.. ( left thumb-stick, even taking the controller apart in attempt to fix the issue did not work, sadly. Though it did improve it slightly.. ended up just getting rid of it. )

I would like an opinion with arguments why you think so.
I'm a pc gamer who thinks that a controller would come in handy while playing some games.
A friend told me that a wireless controller would be better, but that would cost me €50-60 instead of €35 for a wired controller.
What do you think? is the high price really worth not having a cable attached?
EDIT: wired it is, tnx for your opinions:)
