Just wanted to tell you, good luck, we're all counting on you.

It is a nice game, though eventually it gets boring to farm for money and better ships. It took me over 300 hours to get bored though :) so it was definitely worth my $15 when it was on sale. I recommend buying the base game only for now though, and see if you like it. If you really like it, you can get the expansion later.

i gave up after 84 minutes, control is really sensitive with a mouse and keyboard and i was all over the place, kinda made me feel sick which is a gaming first for me. im sure if id stuck with i would have improved but other games came along so i kinda forgot all about it. this is a new genre for me, never having played anything like it before, and ill probly come back to it some time in the future?

Just curious, did you ever try it with a controller or flight stick?

It looks like they half baked it, wait for the expansion maybe.

I was a huge fan of the older Elite games and I was really excited about Dangerous and bought it shortly after release and although it isn't terrible I was rather disappointed. Graphics, combat mechanics, etc are all good but the elements of the franchise I really wanted to see improved seem worse than ever - grinding, repetitive generic missions, atrocious NPC AI, etc. The lack of true single player was a big negative for me - multiplayer can be a terrible experience due to trolls, instancing, etc and the 'shared universe' in the solo mode has major drawbacks as other players can affect your game without you being able to affect them. The devs seemed entirely focused on adding gimmicky crap like driving around on empty planets rather than fixing core mechanics and I had major issues with their pricing structure when they released the DLC as a standalone game (but in the same shared universe with an increasingly broken economy for older players who didn't want to shell out on the new version after paying full price for what turned out to be an early access game that wouldn't be complete without extra expense). The devs U-turned on a bunch of crap after a player uprising including their pricing policy and I should probably update my review - but I still regard them as untrustworthy following a string of abandoned promises and U-turns.
I'll just add that my playtime on Steam isn't representative due to playing the game in its own client without Steam, and I will admit that I haven't played the game in a few updates due to becoming utterly disillusioned.

Thanks!
I think the DLC plans scare me the most about this.....

A one stage I believe the game was going to get ten updates each in the form of a full price standalone title, all in a shared universe leaving players without the latest version ever more disadvantaged. After player outrage I believe the updates have been scaled back to season pass DLC - but it is still a game that could end up being quite expensive in the long term for the finished product.
On the other hand - if you can get the base game fairly cheap, and after a period of frustration and figuring out what the hell is going on, then there is a fair amount to experience and enjoy before getting bored or disillusioned!

True, and I guess if I end up really liking it I can buy the DLC :)

I have the game for months now, but haven't started yet. Thanks for the info

It´s a nice game if you like scifi space stuff, graphics are quite good, the sound is sooooooo amazing, and there are many things to explore.
But there is no real story to follow, you get a little ship and have to earn money for upgrades or the next ship.
There are many possible ways to earn money, for example: bounty hunting, mining minerals from asteroid belts, smuggeling goods, trading goods on spacestations exploring systems etc.
I play it with a flightstick cause controls are bit complex ;-)
On one hand the price/dlc policy doesn´t favour older players but they are constantly updating this game and in my opinion this game has a good price/quality,playtime performance.

I am seriously considering getting this game, along with a HOTAS to play it with. Tell me why I should or shouldn't.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Firefighters are 5 fires north of beetlejuice.
