lately I'm mainly focusing on working my backlog of polish fantasy / sf authors. Atm I'm reading "Drugi Brzeg" by Michał Gołkowski - 2nd tome of his Stalker Universe trilogy. All my current reading progress is always upgated here: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/38288567-piotr

Finished The Stand Stephen King. Epic postapo and thriller. Imo best King book. His magnum opus. ( I read before The Shining, Dr. Sleep, Under the dome, Misery, Pet Sematary, Salem's Lot)
Well, I'm disappointed because my fav char simply died-I mean Nick Andros-he was silent and deaf.
There is another fav char Tom Cullen- he was dumb, you know, what does M-O-O-N mean?

The first Game of Thrones. Though, I haven't started yet.

Well, I heard the shows were really great. I was about to watch the series first but a friend of mine recommended reading the books first.

Wow. I wish I hadn't bought the whole series before reading the first one.

the thing is that story wise books are stil much better than series, especially lastest seasons, because books are more complex, give more details, sidestories, side characters etc. The problem is after 3rd book he had so many sidestories that they were even too much for a book or two books - he wrote 4 books (2 x 2 tomes) about all the events happening in different part of the world, about all his sidestories etc - and problem is that in many of these sidestories not much is actually happening. But he's not dropping his characters so he continues them even if there's not much to write about. And because there are already so many characters, before you go back to story where something good is actually happening you will read 1-3 stories where nothing happens atm. Rinse and repeat for over 2.5k pages :D:

Read everything from Ziemiański - to Piekara I go back from time to time, but I really hate his Inquisitor prequels. I'm waiting so long for the actual continuation - ether of main story or origin story, instead I'm getting annual bullshit that doesn't bring anything new, is written in the same manner, doesn't introduce important characters or events (because then it would fuck up with original story) and is simply a cheesy cashgrab.

I need to catch up on the last two books of the Pomnik when it comes to Ziemański. As for Piekara, yeah, the prequels are becoming an annoyance at this point but then again, Butcher is coming out soon, hopefully that is. And I'm still stuck waiting for Necrosis part 2 ;> yeah, no way that's ever coming out
Comment has been collapsed.
Butcher from Nazareth is "coming soon" since 2006. Same as Black Death. Not to mention the freaking cliffhanger he left us with at the end of 4th tome... And in the meantime of this "coming soon" he managed to write 6 different books of the series... I'll admit - "Fire and Cross" was excellent - but it ended with a freaking cliffhanger as well and we're getting "coming soon" for it's continuation ever since as well. And all "I, Inquisitor" novels are bullshit that is just a shameless cashgrab as it's not developing world or storyline in any way, shape or form. So atm I'm pretty much done with his bullshit. Don't even feel like reading "Bone Galeon" atm.

Can't tell you, from his historical fiction I only read Charakternik, and while I enjoyed it it's not at the same level as other polish historical fiction authors like for example Komuda so I didn't read Szubienicznik. If I want to read Sarmatian Historical Fiction I will grab something of mentioned Komuda, as he knows his deal mch more than Piekara does :D:
And because I'm biased towards Komuda, he's a great guy, awesome to get drunk with, while Piekara is stupid egocentric who feels like he's above everyone else ;p But this let's put aside - not gonna judge books on whether I personally like author or not :D:

I genuinely enjoyed Charakternik as well as Szubienicznik, at least the first tome, which had this certain charm to it.
Haven't touched anything by Komuda yet, none of his work ever caught my attention, tbh.
And yeah, if I would judge the books by the authors I probably wouldn't have read the Witcher series ;> fuck Season of Storms, fuck Season of Storms, fuck Season of Storms.
Wouldn't mind Grzędowicz releasing something....

I wouldn't rush him (Grzędowicz) - his at his best when he takes his time. Same goes for his wife. When MJK signed a deal on releasing 4 boks over 1 summer - these were the worst books she's ever done.
As for Komuda - if you enjoyed Charakternik - totally give Komuda a try. Contrary to Piekara it was not just having fun with historical convention for him. Komuda is a graduated doctor of history, specialized in Sarmatian era of Polish History and he exclusively writes historical fiction mostly set in this era :D: Just to give you idea of what I'm talking about - Piekara very poorly stylizes his dialogues in Charakternik, while Komuda is using really authenthic classic sarmatian language.

Ohh, if you want some good recomendation let me just add one more for you - I just recently dicovered him and I'm so freaking amazed. Guy is named Robert R. Wegner and he released so far 4 tomes of his series "Opowieści z Meekhańskiego Pogranicza". And it's freaking awesome. Actually it's not comparable to any other fantasy written by Polish authors, because of how Western it does feel. Maybe I could compare it to Sapkowski, but nothing else. Guy is the freaking genius, and Meekhan saga is the best thing I've read from Polish fantasy since Witcher Saga. Yes - even better than Achaja, PLO or original Inquisitor series.

I'm reading "The stand" by Stephen King. The first half was great and the second gets... well... strange, but I can only recommend it, if you like postapocaliptic themes, and actually, not only.

Without making a spoiler?
Well, it beginns with a scientific part, and then it's getting more or less to a spiritual part.
Well, if I write it now, it makes rather sense. I don't say it's bad, it just makes me think "really?".
I don't know how to explain it properly. Maybe because it's the first book I read with such things?

To my mind a wonderful book means surprising action. Maybe you're right ... 108-years-old Mother Abigail is not too attractive, but this quite mistery surrounding (I mean Nebraska) make me interested in. I try to imagine this dream- an old black woman with guitar is sitting in front of her old house, Nebraska, dessert. Moreover expedition four selected, Flagg, bomb. Well reading the book cannot be bored.

Yes, of course. I never said it was boring or anything negative actually, but that twist made me write "it's strange". I would recommend this book to everyone, it's just great.

The Forum, by cg.
It's a very deep and interesting psychological story about a group of persons from multiple countries and walk of life which share an interest in gaming. The book follows and reflects on the daily lives of the persons as they talk about stuff.
I highly recommend it, although it might be a bit hard to read and understand the book for some. It's very psychological and is a bit crazy.

Sadly nothing serious for quite a long time... These days/months from time to time I read some short stories by Neil Gaiman. Discovered it not long ago. Smoke and Mirrors collection to be more accurate. So-so for me, but there are some interesting stories.

I'm reading The Other Wes Moore for school, and after that I also have to read The Joy Luck Club. I also got The Vorrh, Thirteen Days in September, and A Spy Among Friends to read afterwards, although I'll probably finish reading HHhH or The Hundred Secret Senses after I finish those two books for school. I really love the style of HHhH and having to read another Amy Tan book for school reminded me of how much I loved one of her previous works even though I never finished it.

If everything fails, you can get e-books from the shady parts of the internet. Or older books from second-hand bookshops. Whichever fits your taste and wallet. .
Also "I just like to play videogames" Then look up Ready Player One. That book should be the Holy Grail of any gamers ever :)

I'm currently halfway in a hungarian book that's title could be City Between Two Ears. It's avout various people who dream the same city where they meet, but they all have control about it. I don't know where is the story is going, but it's full with intresting and kind of controversial characters. ( German guy who hates the Turkish girl who don't like him back - coincidence, but she dies in an accident. Also, an older, maybe 60s transsexual man who can't pass as a woman, and have to face the rough, cold reality while in his dreams can be the woman always wanted to be. It looks like really outstanding for the current hungarian literature, it's really well-done, not in theme only :)
Another one that I can't really bring myself to finish is The Shadow Forest from Matt Haig. Looks really good, but it lacks the little charm that makes me read it nonstop instead of thinking - what to play :D (I'll finish it for sure, I hate to leave a bok unfinished)
Plus I recently got my massive share of Hungary's sci-fi magazine (issue every month) from the past few month - full of great short-stories, maybe one or two novels and some sci-fi like tech news. It's a great one. Plus I stil have a few books to read, like the C&C novel, Tiberium Wars :)

im currently reading the song of ice and fire series, just started first book yesterday,
got tired of people talking about game of thrones the show. so i wanted to read the books so i can watch the show too
i cant watch the show unless i read the books first. im the same with with movies based on books....

the book series is good, it has it faults but it's still a worthwhile read. I haven't watched the show though so I don't know how to compare them, I do know that the show misses out on some of the more exciting side characters though, so you'll have those to enjoy (such as Vargo Hoat) :>

I made the mistake to see what all the dan brown fuzz is about. Digital Fortress is really really not a good book. I feel no compassion whatsoever for the main characters who are incredibly stupid (but apparantly have out of the roof IQ's) . Still, I'll read on and finish it. It's like watching 24. I absolutely hated the daughter but kept watching hoping she would die horribly. oh well... :D

there are constantly threads for music, movies, and games, but so little love for the written word!
I'm currently reading Uprooted by Naomi Novak. I thoroughly enjoy her Temeraire series and I highly recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested in historical fiction (even if you don't it's worth looking into).
update: Now reading "Blood and Iron" by a local author
