there are constantly threads for music, movies, and games, but so little love for the written word!

I'm currently reading Uprooted by Naomi Novak. I thoroughly enjoy her Temeraire series and I highly recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested in historical fiction (even if you don't it's worth looking into).

update: Now reading "Blood and Iron" by a local author

I'm not reading anything at the moment, but recently I was reading the Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. And after I read her stuff (not what her son wrote) I read the Talent's Universe by her as well.

I should really find something to read.

Love Dragon Riders of Pern
try "Earthsea cycle"
great fantasy, very unique (and stay away from the Hallmark miniseries, it's complete and utter crap)

War and Peace! Seriously, decided I'd try and slog through it. I'm on page 1,455 at the moment, which is about 78% of the way through. Only a good novel's worth of reading left! Why did I decide to do this to myself?...

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown.
It's largely based around religion, masonic heritage and the influence of historical and arcane beliefs on current events.

I've read this one, Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, all at the request of my sister, I'm not particularly fond of his writing style but she likes it so I read them.

I'm on book five of the the incarnations of immortality series (Being a Green Mother) and I'm really enjoying it. I like fantasy and sci-fi more so if they're epics. I'm a bit of a picky reader though.

I've only read the first of the series, but I really enjoyed it. Piers Anthony is a fantastic author. His first book is my favorite of his so far.

Yeah it's been alot of fun so far, I like how it's kinda like the same story over and over just from different points of view. The Star Wars and Wheel of Time books I read were like that also, you would have like 3 or 4 stories going on at the same time.

The reason it's a shame is because it's a common read

Recently finished A Dance of Dragons, and now I'm waiting for The Winds of Winter. Until its released, I might start reading some Terry Pratchett books. I've only read a few of his books {Thief of Time, Only You can Save Mankind and The Light Fantastic}. I may also soon read The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat o'Shea.

Read Terry Pratchett.
but be aware of The Bromliad trilogy
and the carpet people. they are not discworlds related, but great reads.
also, one of the best for Discworld is Mort.

Though I haven't read Mort yet, (might start it next) I have read the Carpet People. It was the first book written by him that I read.

:)
since it was the first he wrote, it is fitting:
"The Carpet People is a fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett which was originally published in 1971, but was later re-written by the author when his work became more widespread and well-known. In the Author's Note of the revised edition, published in 1992, Terry Pratchett wrote: "This book had two authors, and they were both the same person."

But I don't have to give him half the royalties. He'd only waste them.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, and The Quantum Universe (and why anything that can happen, does) by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw.

I'm actually struggling a bit through RPO--I didn't expect it to be as dense as it is, and I think the barrage of 80's pop culture references can be a bit much for me at times lol. Loving The Last Unicorn though, and Quantum Universe is reminding me why I loved studying quantum chemistry/physics back at uni. :) Drs. Cox and Forshaw do an excellent job of explaining such a complex subject into manageable concepts.

I'm in book...4 or was it 5 ? Uhm... Anyway, of the The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
It's a bit Tolkienesque, mostly the start, then it gets it's own thing going.
I like the twists and turns, it's not too lineair.
Not a fan of the prudishness in it though, it's a bit too...nice. Oh well, I'll just have to read between the lines for that ;)
Plenty of reading left cos it's 12+ books.

Yeah I found Jordan better on the twists and the story lore but Sanderson I feel did better job with the battles. I liked Matt's and Perrin's the most, I saw a bit of myself in Matt. The last half of the series i couldn't put the books down, always "just one more chapter."
