The best way to prevent the majority of scams is to not trade with certain people from a couple of certain places on Earth.

It's not like valve ever returned scammed items in the first place :^)

At least they're being honest that their support won't help you now, which honestly makes sense if you consider how far back a chain of events has to be reversed in case of a hijacking or the like.
