Who do you blacklist most?
I used to only blacklist assholes and non-activators (after I found out 25% of my previous GAs were won by non-activators and regifters), but recently started blacklisting people with significantly more games won than gave away, because I don't want them to enter my giveaways (give a chance to people who were less fortunate on the site), but they ignore my request in the description, and still enter and win my keys, and according to the rules I can't ask for a reroll, so I just blacklist whenever I see someone with a ratio I wouldn't want to give my games to anyway, but I don't specifically hunt for them (too much effort xd).
(That said I haven't seen you before, so haven't blacklisted this time.)

I blacklist people who blacklist me :P
And this:
"The more I stay on the forum, looking for interesting topics and nice giveaways/puzzles, the more I find people who blacklisted me. I know, I broke some rules in the past (didn't activate some wins, got suspended, then activated the games) but now I have a clean profile and am trying to improve my ratio. Still, I am in some people's blacklist.
I sometimes write in the forum, but never insulted anyone. Maybe I didn't leave a "thank you" in every giveaway I won, but I'm not in those users' blacklists. It seems I get blacklisted from random people. When I find out, I ask them the reason, and if they answer, they usually say "poor ratio", and sometimes they remove me from their blacklist."
Is my story too.
In my opinion, if you don't want people with poor ratio to win your giveaway then just simply create a giveaway for higher level members only.
I find it so rude to blacklist someone just because that person haven't contributed enough in the community. As he may have his own reasons to do so.. I have my reasons for not contributing much, however I'm trying.
All of my giveaways has been and always will be open to everyone. :-)

Some reasons seem absurd but everyone can do with their blacklist anything they want and use it for any reason they like. I've got my own criteria mostly blacklist rulebreakers, beggars, regifters, guys who don't activate gifts etc.
Labels would be great. It's hard to keep a track why certain person got on blacklist ;)

The 9 people I have blacklisted is either for acting as a colossal jackasses on the forums (where colossal = more than myself) or being involved in dev blackmailing offsite (that one person).
I don't care about ratios and thanking/not thanking. I mean yeah when I was running 10+ giveaways and someone copypasted the same message to all of them it mildly annoyed me but I just clicked mark all as read and calmed down :-P

If it wasn't with that god damn topic some time ago, i wouldn't have started using the blacklist ... ever. But someone decided to make a "special" topic for the "Queer Day" ... one of last things I've wanted to see on a gaming forum. So I joined the discussions, saw what i'm up against and started to use the blacklist. After that, blacklisted the whining leechers, beggars and the spoiled kids. That's all ...

Bump, didnt enter but love the statement, that suggestion about reason would be brilliant. I found few people who blacklisted me for some reason and would drive me insane wondering what i did wrong :(

whitelisters

I'm really not a fan of the whitelist/blacklist. I fear that it only serves to separate the community, and, in my opinion, the community is the best thing about sg (people coming together in the spirit of giving). I don't particularly see the need for a whitelist, as you can already make group giveaways and level-restricted giveaways. I don't think there needs to be another way to restrict who can enter your giveaways. The same sentiment goes for the blacklist, but there is a bit more to the blacklist. I feel like the blacklist serves to absolve the person making the giveaway from the inherent responsibilities that come with making giveaways. The site has rules, yes, but ultimately it's up to the community and the givers to be sure they are followed. It falls on the giver to be sure that the winner of their giveaways aren't blatant rule-breakers. Again, there are already plenty of ways to restrict who can enter your giveaways (sgtools, group giveaways, invite onlys, CV restrictions, etc.). The blacklist is a "fire-and-forget" mechanism that serves, as I've said, to sever the community. Time passes and things change, but the people you put on your blacklist are there to stay until you remove them, which some people may be hesitant to do even if they cannot remember why the person ended up there in the first place.
In addition to all this, one can put you on their blacklist simply because they don't like you. I don't think that's a good enough reason to exclude someone when there are other, better, avenues to filter entries for your giveaways. There is also a bunch of drama and issues with blacklists when it comes to trains and group giveaways as well that, I feel, is contrary to the spirit of this site.
When someone wins one of my giveaways I always contact them and speak with them before I give it. I check their SG profile and their steam profile. I run them through SGTools. I do my due diligence before I give them the game. If there are any issues with something I find I speak to them about it. I feel like that's a much better way to handle it than to blacklist someone, especially if it's or a stupid reason like "they didn't say thanks immediately after they won." This site isn't about that. It's about giving for the sake of giving, not giving to be recognized.
A thread was made not too long ago that shares a sentiment of mine: we should come together as a community and help those who break rules to see the error in what they are doing. Sure, they may just be a bad egg, and there are other, better, ways to handle them than to just blacklist them. However, they may just be misguided or misinformed, and we should take pride in our ability to take them in and mold them into an upstanding SG member rather than shut them out because they made a mistake.

My view of whitelists is that it's a way to do a group giveaway without having to go to the trouble of creating and maintaining a steam group. Rather convenient IMO.
I don't follow how blacklisting rule-breakers absolves giveaway creators from their responsibilty of checking on their winners. Performing that due diligence is precisely how they find those rule-breakers to blacklist. I understand the "fire-and-forget" argument though. That's why I only blacklist repeated offenders.

I have less issue with whitelists, but I still think the site would be better without them. The "groups" created by whitelists ignore the best part about actual groups: the group itself! It's not really a group of people that are coming together with a common cause. Even though it might be convenient, it's taking the community out of SG. It's really not that hard to make a steam group, imo.
The blacklist thing, though...I get how there are merits to it. I just do no think they are worth the downfalls. My responsibility argument isn't a blanket one. It's just that, in my experience, a lot of people use the blacklist as a knee jerk reaction to problems that they could have solved more productively.
Thanks for your response though. It seems that you use the lists a bit more responsibly than some. The issue isn't nearly as black and white as the lists would have us believe. (Hahahaha, I'm hilarious).

People in my blacklist:
Winners I had to reroll after a week or more because they didn't respond to any of my attempts to communicate with them. I don't want to deal with that hassle all over again.
Rule-breakers - one-time offenders I just re-roll without blacklisting. Multiple offenses gets you on the blacklist. Also anyone who posts outright in the forum that they don't care about following site rules.
Users that can't be bothered to read giveaway descriptions and act accordingly.
Private link leakers.
Users who make forum posts I find extremely offensive. I'm not very easily offended.

I don't often blacklist (I currently only have 3 poeple on my blacklist) but I generally only blacklist for one reason, rudeness; either not saying thankyou for GA or being offensive in a discussion post. Having said that I've removed one person from my blacklist who asked why they were on it as their rudeness seemed to be a one off and was in response to some provocation (although two wrongs DON'T make a right). I always keep a record of why I've blacklisted someone so I can let them know and so I know.
The bottom line is I'd rather not interact with rude users and using a blacklist seems to deal with this quite well. I have enough stress in my job without dealing with it in my spare time too. I've no issue with people adding me to their blacklist (as long as its not against group membership rules) - it's their call.

Gee, I wish we'd just stop talking about blacklist xDD
I don't keep blacklist anymore, but when I did I was blacklisting rulebreakers and rude people. And no one was there forever - I usually kept someone away for giveaway or two and then removed them from my blacklist. But after a while I decided it's too tedious so I ditched the thing enteriely.

I used to blacklist people for using SGTools, but I cleared the list today, because I think I was overreacting to this tool.

I have blacklisted very few people (1). That was a person who took a personal blow at me on this forum, however I have been blacklisted... I noticed, I went looking through my won gifts and two people who i won games from blacklisted me for some reason :L. I never hurt anyone! D:

Some people will blacklist all their winners because they feel like they should give to as many different people as possible so they want to avoid the possibility of having the same person win more than one of their giveaway.

I sometimes blacklist if I think it's spam (10 comments in two seconds, obviously not a human user) but otherwise I've only blacklisted people for saying thanks if I put something in the description telling people not to... though no one on my blacklist right now is on there for that now.

I personally haven't found a reason to blacklist (or whitelist) anyone on this site yet. I'm not very active on the site but I've been trying to become more active here.
I think that having an option to tell someone why you blacklisted them would be a great idea, though.
And thanks a lot for the train! :)

Hello everyone! I want to talk about the blacklist and the reasons that drive people blacklisting other people.
The more I stay on the forum, looking for interesting topics and nice giveaways/puzzles, the more I find people who blacklisted me.
When I find out, I ask them the reason, and if they answer, they usually say "poor ratio", and sometimes they remove me from their blacklist.
The easiest "solution" that comes to my mind, for people with a "poor ratio" (as it were a guilt), would be to not write in the forum in order to avoid being noticed by blacklisters. This thing sucks, because people who wanted to participate in the discussions are held back by the fear of being blacklisted by someone mad.
A suggestion I could give to the site: in the blacklist (and whitelist) management page, there could be an optional label for every user in the list, so you could know why you blacklisted (whitelisted) him/her.
Please share your thoughts if you want. And have a little train for your time and patience.
