Giveaway time!

  1. I'm almost level 9, so these giveaways should push me over.

  2. All the giveaways end on my birthday, March 15th.

  3. I want your input to add to my music playlist!

I've put together a playlist of my favourite video game music, currently 66 songs (now 75 songs, thanks to you guys!). Generally I've added music from games I've played and enjoyed, with just a few exceptions. I've made a pretty easy quiz with just 7 music questions. If you are able to identify what games the famous music is from, then you'll reach all the giveaways (31 in total, most bundled, some unbundled) and the link to my full playlist. Don't worry! If you can't answer the questions, some hints will appear a day later, and if you still can't answer the questions, I may add some easier hints in the thread next week. Once the giveaways are over, I will add the full playlist here in case anyone else wants to add their recommendations.

Q5 is very loud, sorry about that! Please lower your volume before listening ;-)

31 giveaways at the end of the puzzle, for level 2+. level 4+ and level 6+
Plus 1 extra whitelist giveaway.

update
397 players, and 129 solvers. Not bad!

Less than 24 hours left now, which means if you haven't tried the quiz yet, the hints won't reveal in time to help you (24-hour countdown for hints). If anyone needs a hint for a question, reply and maybe I'll give an extra hint. Cheers!

update 2
Ok in hindsight, perhaps setting the 24 hour hint thing was too long. Here's the hints for those late comers trying to solve now:

Q1. Come on... everyone knows this one! It's a classic from the SNES days. It's Super.
Q2. She died. We cried. Maybe we'll do so again when the remake is Finally released.
Q3. A bit of the old ultra violence. In Miami.
Q4. This is how I roll! Ok so not everyone knows this one, which is a shame. It's one of the best games from the PS2. Very unique and fun gameplay. Bright and colourful and crazy Japanese game (though released in English too).Still don't know it? Ask the King of All Cosmos.
Q5. Classic old arcade game, great for co-op. Bubbly.
Q6. The cake is a lie. Maybe.
Q7. A tale of a mighty pirate, known for his charm and good looks. Legend has it he still roams the Island today, searching for the finest rum. (the rum part of the hint has nothing to do with the game, but rather the person with the same name as the game's protagonist who has a slight rum addiction.

update 3
Giveaways over, thanks for taking part. If you'd like to listen to the youtube playlist anytime, feel free to make more suggestions so I can expand the playlist! Cheers!

As for the puzzle itself...I got 1, 2 and 6 on the first go. Not sure where the others are from...

Yes it seems 4 is proving difficult for many. I've updated the hint to make it more obvious, so when the hints reveal tomorrow I think you should have no problem.

About the music, I highly recommend the soundtrack of games like Bastion, Transistor and Ori & The Blind Forest. Enjoy!

Great suggestion on Hotline Miami 2! I added one of the many great ones from Hotline Miami to the playlist, and didn't even think to check back on the sequel's OST. I think the original blew me away, not just the music but the whole game was fantastic. The sequel was still great, but didn't have the same impact and I forgot to include a track. I'm adding that one now, as it's a great choice. Thank you!

Also, very nice Van Helsing music, i like it.

Thx Threepw00d! I have such a strong attachment to video game music, those melodies really have a way of embedding themselves into some warm fuzzy corner of the brain. Something about the association with the enjoyment of the game, the atmosphere of exploring a game in relaxed contemplation... and it just brings back so many memories.

A few games that I recall fondly for their tunes... maybe will add more as I have time to do so, so many to mention!

  • Primordia - Vangelis-like ambient synths, perfect match for this cyberpunk adventure. This track has vocals.
  • Night of the Rabbit - Kinda celtic-like, with a childhood cinematic fantasy feel
  • The Sims - Right, so I realize this is just like adult contemporary piano music, but I still love it and the association of building/designing/moving furniture around with a nice cup of tea in hand.
  • Jet Grind Radio - Great electic mix of Japanese electro-hip-hop-funk inspired beats. I saw some 塊 in your playlist so I'm sure this is up your alley too!

Great recommendations, cheers for those. Good taste!

I have to admit, I bought Primordia a long time ago on GOG, and haven't even tried it >< shameful... Night of the Rabbit is a game that didn't really appeal, but damn that's a really good soundtrack! Listening through it now, might have to add one to the playlist :-)

I indeed loved Jet Set/Grind Radio, such a fun game.

Thanks again!

I highly recommend giving Primordia a shot, the writing, voice acting, and atmosphere are all top-notch. It's hilarious yet also one of the more philosophical and thought-provoking games I've come across. Maybe have a walkthrough handy for tough spots if you don't want to waste too much time if you get stuck on a puzzle or pixel hunt. I think I finished it in about 4-5 hours total playtime (and a bottle of 12 yr old Yamazaki whisky was involved)

Night of the Rabbit is great in artwork and atmosphere, but I found the writing, pacing, puzzles, and story to all be a bit lacking. I did a play through with my kids watching and helping to think of puzzle solutions, and had a walkthrough handy because I just wanted to get through the story. An uneven game on the whole, but I don't regret doing a play-through and I think it left an impression on my kids.

Apparently the countdown timer begins after you make a first guess. So if you've already answered a couple of questions, you should be able to see them all.

I guess you have to leave the tab open for 24 hrs? I don't know. I tried it again and it resets to 24 hrs. Ah well i've already solved so it doesn't matter.
