I wouldn't call it a beast, but it runs pretty much anything and that's enough for me.

I run a laptop, but it's rather good for what I need still.
CPU - Core i3 @ 2.2GHz
RAM - 8GB DDR3
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 7470M
Screens - Main laptop screen runs at 1366768, with a 1024768 2nd monitor which I use for various things.
It's a pretty weird setup compared to what I normally see TBH, especially with the second monitor setup.

I haz tree year old archimuhtectures, dell xps 17, i7 2840QM quad core, Sandy Bridge, 8gig ram, NVIDIA Optimus GeForce GT 555M "3gig", 7200rpm hdd 2*512gb, 1920x1080 ~17", muh keys haz lights behind them.
My first laptop, I used to build my gaming PCs, I have not been disappointed by Sandy Bridge architecture, as long as it comes with a dedicated GPU you WILL be able to run 99.99% of games presently, though some will require medium settings, very few will require low settings. I run most games in 1080p, all cranked... having such a backlog like the batmans and mass effects, this PC is ideal for me right now.
For those who haven't tried one, don't underestimate Sandy Bridge and onwards, laptops have come a long way.
