Has it started yet? Most games are still at the same price they were yesterday, specially the AAA games,

on the one hand, i did buy a lot of games i'd been looking at for awhile (signal from tolva, turing test, talos principle...i think i see a pattern here...).

on the other hand, this saliens game is trying to combine the community-based teamwork of the monster clicker game with the throatstabbery intensity regarding winning lots of free games of the coal event. except none of the games are anything i want to bother trying to win, and the clicker game sucks. so that didn't work.

on the other other hand, my salien is kinda cute.

75% sale isn't very good, that's common nowadays, I expected more 80-85%. Will probably be skipping the summer sale...

If you wanna 80-85% go back in time to 2011-2013 :)

Nah, it still does happen but game by game at random times. I've missed one or two this year and was hoping for another chance but maybe after summer I guess, a bunch of games have tendency to go on sale AFTER steam's summer sale.

Considering Valve takes now a much bigger cut than in the early days, don't expect several-year-old discounts and prices to ever come back. The game devs and publishers DO have to make a living somehow.

valve still takes the same cut what are you talking about? it's 30% i don't think that has ever changed

There is a minimal amount now they take from all sales. Hence why no 90% discounts are so rare nowadays.

no clue what you're talking about valve takes a flat 30% from everyone triple A's to indies unless you're talking about the system they put in place where a game can't be sold below 50 cents

Has anybody been grinding their Salien levels?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm level 8 by now, took me about 8 hours of manual grinding. Reaching level 9 will take me more than twice as much exp as to get to level 8 and hard levels are already done on my planet by now which makes it even more of a grind. :( (focussing on the art one due to Hollow Knight)
As soon as you reach level 7 and get the black hole hard levels are a joke. You basically keep your enemies stuck in the hole and throw the bombs that you unlocked at level 5.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm level 7 and I don't feel like grinding more, especially because all the high-level tiles have been claimed and grinding on the medium level would already take like double the amount of time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually it's not even needed to grind if you're just in for the raffle.
The raffle just takes your group's total progress and your personal time on the planet into consideration. Basically you could join the group "STCN" or "Steam Universe" and represent one of them. Those seem to have the most participants and are full of script users.

After you reach level 9 it is claimed the EXP to reach level 10 is equivalent to playing the highest threat square for about 20 hours. Like a few years ago reaching maxing that badge out is going to require auto playing scripts if you're into that. There are several of these already and the game is coded far worse than the one a few years ago. For example, you can kill all enemies on spawn by entering the following into your console:
CEnemy.prototype.Walk = function(){this.Die(true);};

Wow only 100? there is like millions of steam users. Why they don't just give it to whoever joins the game or at least reach a certain level maybe.

Same, although some SG'ers did win during that Game Award stream (not me).
It is somewhat spread by players needing to select one of 4 giveways with 400 copies, some wont do the game etc. but it's still fairly unlikely :/

How do I get Summer Sale trading cards?
Summer Sale trading cards are only available during the Summer Salien Event. There are six ways to get them:
Play the Salien Game
You can earn up to three trading cards each day by playing the Summer Salien game. Have fun and earn some rewards while you're at it!
Craft a Game Badge
Crafting a badge for any game during the sale will get you an additional Summer Sale trading card.
Make a Purchase
As an extra reward for purchasing, for every $10 USD spent during the sale, you’ll receive a Summer Sale trading card. From your Summer Sale badge page select
Go through your Discovery Queue
If you’re Steam Level 5 and above, you’ll get a Steam Summer Sale trading card once you view all the items in your daily Steam Discovery Queue. You can continue and go through your Discovery Queue two more times each day to get a maximum of three card drops each day. (If you reach Steam Level 5 before the end of the sale, you’ll be granted the cards you earned by exploring your Steam Discovery Queue during the sale).
Trade for them
That’s why they’re called trading cards! Find friends with other cards and make trades. Your summer sale badge page shows which friends have the cards you need.
Buy them from the Community Market
Sell the cards you don’t need and buy the ones you do, all with other Community members. Turn those duplicate cards into Steam Wallet funds to buy games.

This is just a general observation, but anyone else noticed with recent years more companies are going for this weird F2P-smelling thing where the base game gets decent discounts (or shoved your way through a Monthly) and then the DLC never get more than 33% discount, ever? I'm trying to build up my willpower to not only not get the DLC, but try to cut those companies off my life altogether. After that maybe I'll finally be able to step it up and leave all stupid games behind.

(someone replied to you without hitting reply, check the topic and the post below yours)

Yeah, DLC seems to stay costly, mostly around 50% off. Of course DLC or games I stick to my rule of 75% or bust, maybe excepting things that can't get lower percentages due to Steam's lower limit of 39 cents.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If the DLC is already low-priced i think 33% off is a good deal. But if the DLC is high priced i understand your comment. Just dont buy it, till it is 50% off or more discounted. There are so many really good games to play that dont have to buy overpriced DLC (games).

In your opinion, what would you consider as low price already? I'm split between getting BD2 vault upgrade 2 (raise cap to 73) or not

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hi, i think base game is discounted to 7,99€ and BD2 Vault DLC is discounted to 1,31€. So DLC price is only 16% of base game price. All under 25% in my opinion is cheap.

Anyone else getting this error when trying to play the Salien game via browser? Finished a few rounds and ended up not getting any XP for them because of this :/

There was an error loading required game content. Your game will be restarted.

Random errors are an essential part of all Steam sales. Other than using a script to play it like everyone else to not break your wrists, you should just wait a while and try again.

I think it might be because I'm logged in and idling games at home, and trying to run the game separately from my office computer. Gave up after a few tries and several thousand lost XP :)

Yeah, but we still don't know the XP requirement for the final badge level, it could be as high as it gets. The ranks are so random, I mean you get rank 3 at level 9, rank 4 at level 11, but still no rank 5 at level 15? I don't think they put much thought into this system tbh.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Or people are overthinking it and everyone gets level 6 badge for driving away the evil invaders. Or they later adjust the XP gain because it would be otherwise impossible. Or whatever else, they changed the last game because it was impossible to complete, why wouldn't they do it this time too. I'm quite sure I'll get to it even by being late to the game and only got level 13 -22 mins ago. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Last time you also had to script to get the final badge level, and only a handful of people got it. The system back then was different, because each day you had a new chance. I didn't know about the badge until the last day, and still managed to get it by some determination and luck. Now, if you missed the first few days, you've already missed out on several millions of XP. Who knows, maybe they'll adjust things later, but as things stand now, you can't just jump in at the last day and still get the highest badge.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The games are made to be scripted, nobody sane plays them manually to get results, maybe if they think it's fun. Rewards for taking part in something usually work that way, can't jump in at the last minute expecting to get same as people who've done it the whole time. But we're not even half-way through the sale yet so all anyone can do is guess how it will work out. My guess being that it would still be possible if you start now.

I'm level 10 and the XP to reach 11 is 2400000. That means the XP to reach 12 will at least be 5000000 which will be 50+ hours on the hard tiles. Volvo wants us to sit and click this shitty game all summer.

No, it's not possible to reach that level yet with the current PHP script. He's found a bug and exploited it.

Btw, there's another user now - level 25 with rank 6 badge (probably the max level).
