Marathon. It's really good. From the creators of Halo.

+1 back when the first came out nothing had hit points like it. I actually felt sick looking at the gore the first time, staring at the blood pools from testing all the knife and bullet wounds you could create while hacking up a corpse. The hopping one legged punks were awesome too. Very memorable. SOF3 was a huge disappointment.

You can smooth play tf2 ;) And when you make your graphics script you can make aboud 10-20 fps +
I thonk that you can also play cod:uo of course, and also you can play cod4 :) I played it on intel x3100 soo... :D
If you like racing games, whats about great GRID? I play it in 640x480 with low on, but its very playble. Also all nfs from hp2 to pro street you can play as well.
Different racing game - FlatOut 1 & 2. It great game! especially mini games like ski jumping or derby :D Maybe cmr 2.0, cmr 2005?
If you like, gta 3, vc, san andreas, all you can run and with som modifications of comand line you can play gta4 without mods.
Prince of persia forgotten sands, sands of time. First hitman.. List of the game is long, and you need to choose what yo want to play :) Its old games, but still very good :D

That was the first game I ever considered stealing from a chain store in the early 90s, they had loose disks in the box and no one was around lol.. I didn't do it though. Way easier to get a copy off a friend than go to jail for stealing a floppy, loool. I was about 10 haha

Command & Conquer: Renegade isn't the greatest singleplayer FPS, but the multiplayer is really fun. Plus the community has taken over improving it since EA basically abandoned the game (except to release it as part of new C&C collections every so often).

It IS a 3rd person shooter.
Why not just play GTA 3 if that was what you wanted

Oh the worst optimised and worst FPS of all time I remember playing was 'NWO' aka New World Order. Hillarious.
Also a DECENT game was 'Global Ops' lots of customisable weapons, but no one probably plays it anymore.

One of the first modern shooters with three sides multiplayer
Beware the 'new' Global Ops.

Doom 3 and Prey should run just fine for you I think, they're both really fun. I don't mean the BFG Edition, but the original; I think that's available on Steam too?
Does Riddick's Dark Athena not run for you? Then get Escape From Butcher Bay, it's fun. If it does though, stick with that because it has Butcher Bay in it too.
Timeshift is fun, but I'd advise against buying it as I think it's overpriced, and I've never seen it on sale below a 25% discount.
Halo goes without saying, Halo 2 might not run for you though. Believe me, you're not missing out on too much with it, but defo play the first game.
Postal 2 is kinda addictive, but if it's really not up your alley then you probably shouldn't bother. Basically, it's a joke game, you can choose to appreciate it or not. The gameplay is absolutely addictive though.
Hmm, let's see. Some other oddities like Condemned: Criminal Origins, Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic might also be of interest. None of those are first person shooters per se, but they are first person perspective, they all have kinda-sorta shooting elements to them (even if it's with arrows), and all 3 of them are pretty fantastic in my opinion. Something to consider.
Ah right, Call of Juarez. It's a bitch, really. Pissed me off so damn hard on my first playthrough, but maybe it did because it was on a really old PC with some huge lag that followed. The xbox version seemed more alright, but overall the game was really fun. Definitely stick with it to the ending.
Bioshock also comes to my mind, but I'm pretty sure someone recommended it. Even Infinite doesn't seem to have an earth-shattering minimum requirement; it's the Unreal 3 engine afterall.
Otherwise, I have hoards of recommendations for you if you're into oooooooooold FPS games, in which case you should probably play the whole Thief series, System Shock 2, some Thief games, Red Faction, Thief, Chaser, Thief, the Deus Ex series, the Thief series, SHOGO: Mobile Armor Division, Thief, Max Payne (and MP2), Thief, the Serious Sam games, Thief, and for some good measure, the Thief series. Ah, almost forgot to mention the Thief games, stupid me.

You have to play CS 1.6. Still has a large player base and it's on the original Source engine so it'll run on anything. Also try Unreal tournament 2004 but I think that it's dead so you'll have to get some friends together unless you enjoy playing against bots. Problem is that you want an FPS that's low spec AND has a story. The only low spec FPS games are the older FPS games and those are just straight up multiplayer shooters.

Star Wars Jedi Knight 1, and you could try the other ones, i used to run them fine on Pentium 3 and 256 mb of ram, they are awesome games.

Title says most of what I want. It doesn't have to be a Steam game.
I'd prefer a game that has great singleplayer gameplay and story (I love story games), but I won't mind multiplayer.
It'd be nice if it was free-to-play, but if it's cheap (i.e. less than 2 bucks), I can also go for paid games.
But it can be a not-so-cheap game as long as it's singleplayer-only, because...well...ahoy, matey! (I'm such a scumbag)
CPU: Pentium Dual Core E6600 @ 3.06 GHz
RAM: 3 GB DDR3
Graphics: Intel G41 Express Chipset graphics.
Whoever recommends me the game that I like the most will get a private giveaway of the next Humble Bundle that he/she wants (non-BTA/BT6).
Some low-end FPS that I have played (all on lowest graphics settings):
Half-Life (have all the HL games, but have only played the first one so far),
Counter-Strike series (except GO. Can't run that),
COD 1 and 2 (not UO yet),
Battlefield 1942 and BF2,
Garry's Mod,
Combat Arms,
A.V.A. (so laggy though)
Please note that my graphics is especially bad at rendering particles.
My framerate even drops down to less than 10 on Half Life when I'm looking at smoke/fire.
And I suffer from FOV sickness, so an FOV slider would be nice :P
