The last week I've created a tool which gives you the names of the guys that didn't comment on your giveaway.

The tool works for all the giveaways except the group ones.

At the moment, it is pretty ugly(plain text), but the next week I'm going to create a GUI for it. Link: SG-Comments - BETA (Change the name since there are many confusions but it's still code name)

Your giveaway's url is not saved so don’t be afraid to test it on your private giveaways.

If you want you can launch it at the end before sending the gift, this way you'll know if the winner has commented.

Things to do:

  • Know if the winner(s) have post a comment.
  • A export in text (for people who keep a list).
  • A new GUI.
  • Post the code somewhere after the GUI is done.

Bug reports and suggestions should come to me, you can e-mail them from the site.

Have fun ;)

The name can change, it's a code name :)

Some clarifications:

  • It's not a way to gather private link, people can use it at the end of the giveaway, nothing is save, and the code source will be public after the GUI. You can wait to use it if you want :)
  • For the moment this tool only sort people who don't comment, but it's in BETA and I ask for some suggestions ... So far I will add an option to filter those useless "Thanks", "Thx", etc. to show only others comments. With this people who ask for favorite RPG, films, or music can see what others have respond :D
  • I made this tool, because I have free time, I want to do something and I've see some gifters who write in their description that they want something to be post in the comment section. With many entries it can be difficult to know who doesn't post and who post, so this version can help them :D
  • I'm not here to divide the community, some people can use it if they want, it's not an obligation and I hope it will be never put in standard in Steamgifts! Otherwise there will be a huge spam of "Thanks" in each giveaways and no one want that :D
  • This is not a tool to oblige people to say "Thanks"!! some people put some rules in the description of their giveaways, this tool (in this version) can help them to sort people who don't take time to read them ...
  • THIS IS NOT THE DEFINITIVE VERSION I'm reading all your comments to improve it :)

Maybe for groups and private giveaways that have a comment rule but its easy enough to press control F and type in the winners name to see if he commented imo.

Exactly, private and group giveaways will have very few entries so It would be easy to check it out manually.

Hmm. I guess it would only be useful for a group and if a lot of people join in. So it isn't completely silly after all. But for regular, open giveaways, I don't see the point.

I find it stupid to comment a meaningless "thanks" to every single giveaway you enter. It's important to thank from the bottom of your heart if you happen to win something but just doing it just for a 1/2000-chance to win is useless, I'm commenting only if there's a slightest reason to comment (like when the giveaway asks for your favourite TV show or something) but thanking isn't one of those. Your idea about blacklisting or even banning people who don't copypaste that comment to every giveaway is just plain horrible and I don't support it at all.

Exactly what I think. Also, I find those giveaways that ask for favorite shows much more entertaining, sometimes it even turns to a healthy debate :D. Personally, for example, i loved how much people actually read my request in this giveaway and each one made a personal reply. Much better than mindless copy pasted thanks.

When I am doing a giveaway (or now Puzzle Giveaways), I would rather see actual comments or questions people are saying without having to filter through the "thx" and "thanks" messages. If anything there should be a filter that lets you hide comments with less than 5 characters. I treat almost any giveaway I enter the same way. If the Gifter asks a question, or asks you to post something silly or fun, I will happily do it to show my appreciation. If there is no description at all, I assume the Gifter doesn't care about posts, so I refrain from spamming. If I find something someone else posts amusing or interesting, I will sometimes comment on it and also thank the OP. If I win, I always say thank you on here, and will also email (if sent via email) or say Thank you again and mention that I appreciate it, and try to see if we can be friends if it is in Steam Chat (rather than be cold business, trade complete deleted user).

I believe I am using the comment system the way it was intended. I do not believe the intention was to spam THX, and move on to the next one to repeat the process.

I never say that people need to thanks ;)

This tool is just a BETA tool, I can easily add an option to hide "Thanks", "Thx" or another string in function of some parameters (length for example) :)

The only issue I can see is getting ban listed for not spamming it. I admit my comment ratio is not 1:1, it's closer to 10-15% actually. But it is always meaningful (other than brief period of when I went with the flow and did the thoughtless generic comments.
With no offence to your idea, this reminds me of when I played DotA on Warcraft 3. It was an all random game (That means you do not get to pick your character if you never played it), and I was given a character that someone there thought was bad, and they added me to their ban list. Thing was, their ban list was auto-shared with others via the sharing tool, and soon I was unable to join many games at all. Was it my fault I was given a bad character (in their opinion)? No. Should I have been banned from almost all games? No!
Taking it back to here. Should I be banned for not spamming TY THX THANKS mindlessly and uncaring? I don't think so. Should I be punished because technology restricts me from seeing comments when at work/school? I think not, especially since when I get home, I do try to comment on the ones that I had wanted to comment on.
Your idea is decent, but I can also see it being abused, and causing a massive influx of much unwanted spam.

Hear hear:D I find it hilarious how all these giveaways are popping up with the fake, un moderator approved 'rules' that say "no thanks, no game" or "no thanks, reroll".

It's almost like the 'gifter' cares about 2 things, their contributor amount, and their ego. What the hell is the point in a million "thanks" posts, when it is basically meaningless? If you really think all those copy-pasta ninjas are actually thanking you for a chance at a gamble, then you are either a. incredibly kind hearted and naive, or b. just plain stupid.

If there is something of value to be said, I will say it, but usually, there is just such a long ass list of useless thanks, tks, or thx posts that I don't even bother looking for a discussion. We REALLY should just have an auto thumbs up/like/thanks button that gives the gifter a count. Then again, it is kinda already in place, it's called entries. If people weren't at least sort of thankful for the giveaway, they wouldn't enter. So, I propose you comment whores use the entries as your gauge of how many people are thanking you.

One question. What If I'm using android SG app for entering giveaways and it doesn't have an option to comment? I find it VERY useful when I'm at work(so basically 16 hours per day). What should I do then?

You sound like me, I sometimes go back to make the comment when I get home, but in all honesty, I sometimes forget. In the off chance I win, I make sure to correct that mistake, and also say thank you.

BTW the app (at least the one I use) allow to see comments, and reply to comments or posta new one, just check inside the giveaway the upper right corner.

OP has not considered what explained on this topic there is an addon that auto-comment on giveaways. Do you want that everyone of us use it, to post the same crap on each giveaway? Would that please you? STOP SPAMMERS

?

I don't want SPAMMERS, it's just a tool in BETA, I post it to see what people have to say, so far I think people are afraid that this tools transform Steamgifts in a "Thanks-Spam-Center" ...

So far, I plan to add:

  • The ability to sort Thanks, Thx, too short or too long comment, or others things to let gifters see the answer of their description (favorite game, RPG)
  • With that we can imagine a gifter ask no one post something, with this tool he can easily see who doesn't read the description
  • It's just a BETA, some features can be add, I even post it to hear what you have to say :D

Just to say that I read all your comments, it's interesting to see how I can improve my tool :)

So far:

  • I've change the name, since many think that I want a Thanks-Spam-Apocalypse, it's just that it's not easy to find a good name. I had called it SG-BanList, because on some giveaway gifters write that they will banlist those who don't post anything, simple at that :)
  • I plan to add some options to sort comment (only Thanks invisible, only comment smaller than 10 characters, comment without pictures/links, etc.). With that People can ask for some fantasy in theirs descriptions: a link to a funny picture, a funny story, don't post anything, etc.

So keep the comments coming :)

really useless... why people need to say thanks before they win the gift? when i win the gift (if i win) i can say thanks and others nice words, but not first... AND THIS IS MY OPINION

I add it, because it's TRUE :)

I don't know why people think that this will bring the "Thanks Apocalypse" on Steamgifts ... We can imagine some rules, like: write nothing, give the link to a funny image, write a funny joke, etc.

And it's not because you don't comment that you'll be ban of Steamgifts :D

When I win, I always leave a comment or comments after I've won. Then I can actually thank the gifter for a gift. I only say something sincere at that point, because I actually have feelings on the matter and am truly grateful. I don't see the point in caring about it before then.

However, I've never been replied to by the gifter after doing this (which is fine, but it also tells me that the people I've won from don't care a bit about the gratitude.) Also, no one has ever thanked me for a giveaway except before they won, which is nonsensical and isn't expressing thankfulness at all. It just expresses a need to comment.

To be fair, if you just leave a comment on their giveaway after it's closed, they may not actually see it. I know I rarely check through all the comments after it's ended.

Permalink

That's very true. I'm not at all bothered that I'm not replied to. However, I don't understand why anyone would read through them before the giveaway is over and not after... That probably means that many gifters don't read the comments at all?

Probably never will be, as you need to be part of that group to view the giveaway. Public and privates are easy enough as you only need the URL.

I'm amazed by how many people get hung up by the issue of thanking. From the FAQ/Rules and Guidlines...

  • Always thank submitters. Thanking is not required to enter a giveaway.

It's sad this needs to even be a rule. But with the lack of common courtesy these days, I can see why it is. But it's NOT required to thank someone just for entering a giveaway! NOT! NOT required! Get it?!?!

Cool. Thanks for your effort. Usually I will search manually for the winner's comment. The entries never get over 100, so manual search is quite easy. The idea behind asking for a comment is to make sure that people actually reads what in the description. Plus, I don't like ninjas.
