Personally I'll buy the Wii U, but among the two I think PS3 is better.

Go with what exclusives you prefer. If you don't mind that, go to Xbox; Xbox Live is superior to PSN.

Playstation all the way. I have shitbox and they have nothing for exclusives other than Halo, Gears of War, some arcade games, and 5 or so expensive Japanese import shmups. Everything else is on PS3 and PC... and PS3 has wayyyyy more exclusives than Xbox. So does Wii-U.

You are forgetting Forza here. The reason one of my friends bought an xbox.

I'm really surprised to see the overwhelming support for PS3 here. Every previous time I've seen this question asked, the unanimous answer was Xbox 360. Most of those were back before PS3 actually started getting exclusive games (about 3 years after its release) and when the Halo games were more popular than CoD, so I suppose the times have changed.

PS3 has so many flaws and only like 3 good exclusive games, I still have to go with Xbox 360.

He mentioned that he had a PS3 before so most of the votes are because he wouldn't have to rebuy everything. Nothing to do with the systems themselves.

Your PS3 broke, did you like it? Do you still have games for it? If the answer to that is yes, buy a PS3.

Other than that, it's op to personal preferences (like the controller, although you could always get third party controllers). And what your friends might have. I have 2 friends that play on xbox360, so when I got myself a second hand console, I went for xbox. Even though I might have gone for PS3 if that wasn't the case.

If you already played all the exclusives you wanted to play for PS3, you could give a try to the XBOX ones.

Or change entirely, and pick up a Nintendo 3DS and play something completely different, while saving for your next-gen console. If I had the money, I'll probably be playing Monster Hunter alongside my PC games. :)

In any case, good luck and have fun! :D

Another vote for PS3. It is more reliable than the Xbox in life span. It does have its problems, but not as common. I think the only real common problem is the disk drive no longer reading bluray, but even that isn't too common either if I were to do a survey. Though it is exaggerated on how unreliable the xbox 360 is, I do see more of them broken than PS3's. As for exclusives, the PS3 has the better choice. As for online, xbox 360 has superior online but isn't free, while PS3 is good enough and is free. PS3 doubles as a bluray player, Xbox 360 plays HDDVD's... which no longer are made. Playstation+ gives users free games and other fancy services for online, but still is, if I recall, cheaper than regular xbox 360 membership fees. I could be wrong on that previous point, however. Overall, PS3 is superior in every way for someone like me. The only thing the Xbox 360 had going for it was Gears of War and Halo, something that can be easily replaced with something else. It really is a matter of opinion which is best and you should decide based on which has the games you want since the remaining details are not relevant... you would simply get used to whatever you have.

Misinformation about 360 lifespan. I've had my xbox 360 since day one, and it's been fine. You won't get problems with it unless you drop it down the stairs.

I had one, and it got the RRoD. Am on my second now, and I don't dare to use it much.
Btw, it is the white model, which is pretty rare now if you don't consider second hand shops.

Good for you, but for everyone else that did nothing wrong with their xbox 360 like myself still gotten the RROD for just staring at it.

The PS3 has very few YLoDs compared to the white Xbox 360's RRoD. The RRoD is so bad, that the number of replacements was within the millions.
Edit: As for proof, this link will surfice.

Misinformation about 360 lifespan, I've had my xbox 360 since day one, and I got the ROD without ever moving it. Sending it to microsoft resulted in them calling me saying "It's fixed!" then, returning it to me, still broken, with a letter saying "We couldn't fix your console, the warranty expired".

As someone who still owns both consoles, I must say that while Xbox has the better OS and better servers (since you pay for them...) The Playstation is NOW better, even though the OS might be flawed etc, simply because of PSPlus and the free Multiplayer gaming.
