Fucking hell, gamers are spoiled to the bone. The base game alone gives you more playtime than most AAA titles.

I wouldn't say than most AAA- titles since most AAA- games with multiplayer add as much gameplay as this one. Just a matter of preference, I love grand strategy games and shooters and singleplayer story-line games.
Even Witcher 3, which is awesome, has less hours to offer than this, because unless you want to repeat the same story all over again, you don't replay it. This game changes with each play, which makes it repeatable. And CK2, EU4, Stellaris A.I. is made great, not too stupid, not godlike, just perfect. In my opinion that is.

It is very much playable, and plus now that it is given free it is really worth it.
I myself had probably 50+ hours with the base game before I bought the old gods DLC (wanted the earlier start and to play as a viking) I then got a good 50-100 hours with just the viking DLC. I then decided I wanted an even earlier start, so I got some DLC here and there on sale and so far I have like 428 hours and I've completed like 5 or maybe 6 full games already.
I don't have all the DLC, I only have the DLC of the things that I want to play, and I have some of the cosmetic DLC for those places that I play as a lot, I think I may wait till the next DLC releases before I buy Jade Dragon, so I can get it maybe as cheap as how Monks is on sale?
Of all the Paradox 4x games that I own, I like CK2 the best. I have EUIV (just base game), and Stellaris (just base game) and Stellaris was okay, I got it from the humble monthly, and I didn't care much for EUIV... only got it since wanted to do like a grand campaign from ck2-EUIV.

While im far from saying base is unplayable, changes to core mechanics like educating child, council and probably some others should be included as patch imo...
On other hand other religions, time periods are just expansion of base experience, so try base first and if you want more get those.
Its so fun raiding whole Mediterranean sea as vikings, repeatedly :D

I think it shouldn't be added to the free list as you can't get a code and give it to someone else, but only add it to your own library. But that's what I think not sure what the mods decide :)

I believe that should be the case as well, its distributed in a way that makes it impossible to give away free copy, so should not affect future giveaways.
