"The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games," said Mark Richardson at Valve.

Ahaha they don't know us at all.

Yeay!!!
More steam downtimes as servers get pounded during the release of this summers hottest movie or not being able to install my games until valve can handle being hammered for downloads because it put video editing software on sale.

Or maybe not. Sarcasm aside probably too early to be fearful of such things.

Well, I did enjoy 'Indie Game: The Movie'.

Good thing they're taking it up a notch, can't wait to see what kind of softwares will be available. :)

I really don't like the idea of having to run Steam to run software. It's annoying enough to not be able to play a game without an internet connection, it's a lot less tolerable if I want to do something quick in some software. If the software can run without Steam then I'm okay with it, but the promised integration with Steamworks is worrying. Unless Steam adds a really robust offline mode and makes software launch imperceptibly slower than launching without it, I don't think I'll want to buy non-game software there.

But you can play steam games without internet connection? You don't have to turn steam on in order to play games you have bought.

I can play them if Steam is in offline mode. Which works if I put it in offline mode, but often doesn't work if I didn't do that and there's no internet connection.

Are you saying that it's possible to run a Steam game without Steam at all or a connection without doing this?
