Because I'm tired of getting catcalled and watching others in the street receive the same treatment, I decided to share some information with everyone in SG hoping that they can stop doing it and/or talk to their friends to make them reconsider their behavior.

Street harassment is unwanted and unwelcomed public attention, most often directed at women, which is demeaning and damaging. It’s not a private matter but one that should concern everyone.
If you have trouble empathising with strangers, then think about your mother, sister, or girlfriend. Would you enjoy watching people catcalling and telling them nasty things? How do you think they would feel about it?

On an average day I go out twice and I get at least one guaranteed catcall. On weekends or when I go out, for example to a club, it gets worse because groups of people feel more empowered to do so.

A few months ago I was walking with a friend and one guy said things and started to follow us. After a while it ended with me turning around and pepper-spraying his face, then running away in case he could fight back. This is the kind of violence it generates.
We had a rough rest of the day and were shaken up. I didn't enjoy doing that at all, but he had to be stopped. I also like to think the guy didn't enjoy it either.
So in the end, what did he achieve? Nothing.

Edit
OK, I'm gonna clear this up since some people like to assume things just to blame me for defending myself.

A few months ago I was walking with a friend and one guy said things...

For the backward people, this was in june when I wasn't wearing "provocative shorts and t-shirts" clothes. These are the "nice compliments" I got amongst others i don't even want to repeat here and/or I want to forget:

hey girl nice butt
does your friend wanna F with me too?
hey reply bitch
come here lesbos!
GONNA EAT YOUR ASS

...and started to follow us.

Walked one block with that guy which was 1 meter away from us. He wasn't shouting from the other side of the street, he wasn't half a block away, he wasn't sitting in the sidewalk. He was right behind us.

...After a while it ended with me turning around and pepper-spraying his face, then running away in case he could fight back...

He got warned to leave us alone during the whole 1-block fast-paced walk. I didn't stop to "discuss" because I'm not a 1.9 meters 120kg guy, so I'm not putting my friend and I at risk at 8:30pm in the street.

You read the "You're not alone" thread?
Well, most of the stuff that I shared about me is linked directly to an experience related to this, but I wasn't walking with a friend and there were two guys instead of one following me. You can guess what happened next since I wasn't able to defend myself.

But of course, street harassment is harmless and nothing else can go wrong, nor it can trigger unhappy memories from past experiences.
Think a bit before judging others so quickly assuming they overreact when they feel in danger.~

I know I probably won't convince anyone catcalling to stop by posting this (it doesn't hurt to try), but if your friends or co-workers do it, you can persuade or talk to them and see if they get it. There's nothing worse than being in a group of friends and allowing them to act like idiots.

It's disgusting and demeaning, stop it. You're hurting people with your actions and makes you look like a fool.

❀️️ FAQ, in case you're gonna post one of these comments I get all the time.

- But some women like to be catcalled!
Yes, there's also men that like to get hit in the face with a hammer. So using the same logic, I should go out and hit all men with a hammer in hopes they enjoy it?

- Don't be so sensitive, ignore it.
No, it reaches a point it can't be ignored. It's not an isolated issue once per month or in certain situations so you can avoid it. It also affects me a lot depending on my mood, so when you feel like crap and you get catcalled, things get worse.

- So you want others to come to your rescue when some stranger catcalls you? That will end up with me getting in a fight!
I'm not asking people to fight for me, just them to stop doing it, spread the word, and discourage people in their group of friends from being disrespectful.

- If you don't want to get catcalled, dress appropriately!
1: Don't blame the victim.
2: I dress as I please. It's my body, not someone else's.
3: It doesn't matter if it's winter and I'm wearing a jacket, or summer with shorts and a t-shirt. Some people will be idiots anyway and say things.

- I bet you like it when a handsome guy catcalls you!
Irrelevant. I expect respect from everyone.

- What about men? They also get harassed!
I'm very aware guys also get harassed by both men and women, but this thread is about girls. Feel free to create another thread for that issue, and I will support it.

- So this is just a misandrist rant!
It's not. If you feel targeted by anything I said, then it's not because you're a man, it's because you actions ressemble what it's said here.

- Meh, it could be worse.
It could be worse, but it SHOULD be better. Also, normalizing this behavior makes it even more painful for victims.

- Women also catcall!
I never said they don't, but for each woman that catcalls me, i get 500 guys. So the issue at hand is the one I shared.

- This thread offends me!
That tells a lot about you. Log off, take your time, and think about it.

- This thread is inappropriate for SG, please close and delete it!
Go tell that to all other threads about awareness, politics, religion, sports, disasters, etc.

I know that nobody cares but...

Few days ago I was shitstormed for saying that I dont want to sexual interaction with dark skinned or asian girls. Then I was shittstormed for not wanting to throw sexual comments (or as here called harassment) to such girls and here everyone is like, throwing such comments and constantly wanting sexual interaction is "harassment"...

But what's more annoying the "Real men are feminist" mentality. Like, seriously? Do you actually consider modern "feminism" sane the first place?

I know all my posts here are different as they are during a different period and different stuff happened at that period of time, but c'mon...

Sexual harassment cannot be taken seriously anymore, while there's these social justice warriors all around the internet talking bullshit and not knowing themselves what they want from you and most cases ending up with them saying "Just kill yourself", to make the world "Better".

Then we have Sweden as an example, where there's constant sexual assaults and the government is like "Oh it's your own fault you got raped! You were too sexy!" or "Oh the poor kids didnt know it\s illegal to rape/harass you", which grows in a lot of the woman there that are like "Oh but at least he's happy for raping/harassing me, that fixes it all!".

Then we have England who are too busy trying to jail YouTubers for doing a joke with their dog while ignoring constant attacks on woman outside the streets...

And lets not even talk about the hypocrisy of the #MeToo movement, which is whining how men are pigs while the same time trying to give young actresses to big fat ugly producers as sex toys so they can manage to get that one role so they can make a name for themselves.

You wanna fix this issue? First fix Europe and America. There's a lot of countries which allow this "rape" and "harassment" culture down in the middle east, where the predators can be exported to... and dont say "oh but war, war , war." the war is nearly over and there's a lot of countries there with no war. And I aint even speaking about migrants. There's a lot of white and black who are born and live in Europe/America from generations, who are still preaching this "rape culture", they should be exported down there too, to what makes it looks normal.

And one last thing. I get Mully and her issues, but this issue is strictly country based, some countries share it, others don't. Internet wont change a thing on this topic, governments will and for them to do it, corruption on the high levels must be taken down, because while there's million/billioners who can just pay the court and walk free after act of rape, pedophilia, sexual harassment in work/public places, then the issue will just continue to exist and get worse and worse.

(Ready to embrace all your black lists, nazi, sexist or racist claims about me. Cheers.)

I thought people had realized that this is just a flat out fabrication by people with an agenda at this point. But apparently there are still holdouts who have not realized this.

You are aware of the fact that people are far more keen on reporting sexual harassment and rape now than they used to be in Sweden, right? While the amount of incidents where people had to seek medical attention due to sexual violence has remain unchanged over the last decade, the amount of reported cases of sexual harassment & rape has gone up significantly. If we had seen a significant increase in the number of rapes, those two numbers would have gone up in tandem, would they not?

And then we have people who's ability to read and understand sources is close to non-existent will give you the rape statistics, claiming that Sweden is the rape capital of the world. These are people who don't bother to look at what those numbers actually mean. Sweden is one of the countries where each individual case of rape or sexual harassment gets added to the statistics. So in Sweden, if someone rapes someone 5 times over the course of 2 years, that results in 5 rapes added to the statistics, while in the US if someone rapes someone 5 times over the course of 2 years, that adds 1 to the statistics (punishment will of course be similar, it's just a matter of how the stats gets presented).

The way it's done is quite simple. BRΓ… (Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention) has access to everything the police has,and they simply take every single case alleged rape, and puts it into the statistics. They also take every single case of someone being convicted for rape, and puts that into the statistics. They're not doing surveys, they're literally taking every single case where someone has gone to the police and reported a rape. This data would be incredibly hard to tamper with, it would require someone to remove accusations of rape for the police database, or randomly adding reports of rape that does not exist to pad out the numbers.

Mate. They claim my country is the most corrupt and trash to live in, but we dont have no go zones, unlike Sweden, Germany and England. So please... keep your "primary source" to yourself. I got a friend who lives in Sweden and he says "it's all cool as long as you dont go to the no go zones", I wonder why is that...

Sweden does not have no-go zones. This is just a lie.
And honestly, I'm not surprised that your response was to reject a primary source, that's well in line with how you usually act.

Oh really?! So everyone who I know from Sweden is a big fat liar, cause they werent lucky enough to live in the rich safe zones. The less lucky are forced to live near the no go zones and suffer. Or just cause Trump said it's true it's automatically false? Cause yet again my source aint statistics or Trump, my source are people who liveD there and ran away because of this crisis. I know a girl who got assaulted there, sexually, by migrants who "didnt know that it's illegal to rape females", she's still visiting a psychiatrist because of the mental trauma.
Are you seriously going to come here and put false claims over some fake government statistics and claim that? Your leaders, of your country literally said that the issues in Sweden are the "white" people, cause we werent "tolerant" enough.
Don't try to act cool, I aint in the mood of political arguments on a gaming website, especially after I've seen the garbage my "Real life friends" turned out to be for the past month.

Have a nice evening. Glad we are NOT going to have this conversation.

I happen to live in one of those zones often gets listed as a no-go zone. One of the poorest areas of Sweden, with among the highest crime rate in Sweden.
So yes, I'm going to say that either the people who told you about the no-go zones were liars, or they were ignorant.

You know how the story of the no-go zones started, right? Back in 2014 the police made statement about 55 areas they needed to prioritize, which a newspaper (SvD) falsely reported as the 55 no-go zones, which then was picked up on by... less honest media.

Thats a pile of horse crap. Nobody admitted about them until 2017 when an ex cnn reporter went to investigate after Paul Watson offered to pay anyone who goes and shows the truth. Not only was the reporter attacked, but he refused the pay and covered his own expenses there. His report was removed by all medias and video proof taken down from YT as hate speech. But still enough people saw it to make the no go zones public...

The thing is though, Sweden does not have these no-go zones where police has completely lost control, and where it's too dangerous to be. During things like riots, football hooligan fights and so on, the police will make people leave the area, but that's a temporary issue, not a permanent no-go zone. And the famous Swedish "riots" that certain "alternative" media loves to report on, they've happened, but they're far far smaller and less frequent than they want you to believe. It's just that when you've got 10 people who are out destroying things, and some of them light cars on fire, it looks really spectacular. That's not to say that there are no issues in Sweden, the fact that the police identified 55 areas where there are major issues does indicate a pretty big failure from their side, that they did not nip the problem off at the bud and now they've got a far more deep-rooted problem to deal with. But when you hear reports of massive riots happening and how women gets raped left and right in Sweden, that's lies and fabrications, with people and media outlets either not doing any proper research of their own, or intentionally spreading false information.

Also, as popular as it is to point as "Muslims" as the big culprit, it's also a case of dishonest media reporting. First of all, a pretty sizable portion of the people causing issues are Christians (to put things into perspective, this "no-go zone" that I live pretty much in the middle of has 3 Protestant churches, 2 Orthodox churches and only one Mosque, and when it comes to criminal activity, there's been a fare bit of issues with one of the Orthodox churches, yet not the Mosque), and second of all, the reason why Sweden has issues with many poorer areas is very similar to the reason why there are "black neighborhoods" in the states that have issues with a higher level of crime. It's not a matter of skin colour or religion being the culprit, but poverty. Of course if you happen to shove a lot of people with little income and no real resources into one neighborhood, you will get a higher level of crime. This is another one of the big failures of Sweden over the last 30 or so years, they've allowed these poor areas to form, where crime rate is high and education is low, and where people feel like they can't really get anywhere in life.

So in closing: No-go zones are a lie, they don't exist. There are issues in Sweden, but people who claim that women get raped left & right, and that there are areas that are deemed to dangerous to be in (unless there's something actually on-going at the moment) either actively lie to you, or they have not bothered putting in any research of their own and is continuing to spread the misinformation.

The reason why I picked black neighborhood as the example is that it's a bit of an equivalent in terms of social class to the Swedish immigrant-heavy areas. It's poor and quite segregated areas where there's also a low trust in the government and people feeling like there's no real hope for the future. But it's a poverty problem, and when you've got other forces acting on you as well (black people are at a disadvantage when it comes to finding jobs in the US, much like immigrants, including second generation immigrants, are at a disadvantage when it comes to finding a job here), that's a recipe for trouble. If you feel like society is working against you, what loyalty do you have to society?
Of course, any kind of poverty will cause these kinds of issues though, you just have additional factors that makes things worse.

In terms of media and misinformation, there are different levels to it. A site like BBC news will have a bias, of course (any news reporting will have a bias, it's pretty much impossible to get away from when you're dealing with people), but the news will likely be "true". It might not be the whole truth, it might be the part of the truth that the editors and reporters finds "important", but it's still for the most part true. Then you've got sites like pravda.ru which outright invents stories to further an agenda (in the case of pravda it's a strongly pro-Russian "news" site)

have organizations from the government and independent organizations that help them get into college. So does the Native Americans. Native Americans get a certain amount of money from the gov when they turn 18.

"Independent organizations" is the key word here. Organizations founded and funded by Native Americans for Native Americans. They don't get any money "from the government" for coming of age.

Scholarships that Native Americans get, as well as the money they "get when they turn 18" come from money earned through Native American business ventures (The Ho-chunk tribe is one tribe who pays out this money). Those companies earmark certain amounts of their profits toward financially strengthening their tribal nations. It's more of a trust fund. You know those casinos you're talking about? They stimulate the local economy and literally pour money (via a % of their revenue) into the local, state, and federal government.

If you'd like to educate yourself more on the topic, either google or you could read this article. It contains a lot of information to dispel these myths you seem to have about where the money comes from.

I was telling him how our country takes care of certain groups

Except it doesn't "take care of Natives." They take care of themselves. The link I provided you earlier in this discussion goes into great detail about it.

Natives are allowed casinos on their reservations, yes, but it has nothing to do with the government "taking care of" certain groups. It has everything to do with tribal sovereignty, meaning the government has limited say about gaming or gambling establishments on tribal lands (per the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988). Source

I'm also curious about this college, the one federally funded by the US government, the one that allows Natives to attend for free. Does it have a name or a website I can check out? I'd be willing to bet that it, too, is funded by the Tribal Council.

Lastly, it's pretty well-known (again, feel free to research it for yourself) that the Ho-Chunk tribe pays out the most to Natives who are at least 25% Ho-Chunk (at $200.,000), when they turn 18. Source

EDIT: For clarification, I haven't mentioned anything about the black population being "taken care of" because I honestly don't know all that much about it. Again, though, I'd be willing to bet most of that money (if not all) comes from black organizations and is funded by black business. Interesting article about African American scholarship money

I did say Independent Organizations AND/OR the Government which what federally funded means.

Federally funded means funded by the US government. Independent organizations are different entities entirely. They're not the same. One is federally funded, the other privately funded.

This is from a local news station when they got their checks.
GovSettlementChecks
Gov payments to trust funds cause they messed with the trust fund through the treasury.
GovSettlementTribalTrust

That's not the government "helping out." That's the government getting sued and losing. Not the same thing at all.

Also the College name that is federally funded is Haskell University which is in Lawrence.
Haskell

That's the only proper example you've given of the US government "helping out". It's funded by the US Trust (partially), more or less because "we killed nearly all of you and stole all your land."

This is Cherokee and they do the same as ho chunk but the amount is not the same

Yes, I know this, but it's still tribal money, not from the US government. You're playing the semantics game to get around your initial claim that the government hands free money to Natives by now saying "the tribal government". My point was that the tribes help themselves, and that point still stands. It's not the government helping. The payout is typically a couple thousand dollars per year (or less), with Ho-Chunk paying the most outright with $200,000. And the fact remains that most Natives never receive a penny simply for being Native.

Native Americans get a certain amount of money from the gov when they turn 18.

That was your statement, and it's entirely incorrect. I was correcting that statement.

I'm glad you decided to do some research, even if it was after the fact.

You posted a bunch of misinformation based on hearsay without researching it first to verify its validity. Hearsay is not a valid source. I was correcting your misinformation.

If you had indeed had all those links bookmarked (and read them prior to posting), you wouldn't have posted misinformation, and you'd have known that the 18 money does not come from the government at all."

... when i say Government, i do mean the US government.

Your words.

We have grants as well to help people from minorities, and people from low income families get a higher education, but the reality is still that people from families that already have a low-level of education are far less likely to in turn get a higher education themselves, for a multitude of reasons.
First of all, you need to actually get hose grants.
Second of all, people form families with a low-level of education don't come from a home with the same tradition of studying.
Then we have the fact that their parents will be far less suited for actually preparing them for higher education. (This was something that was really obvious when I got into uni, people from areas like mine fared a lot worse simply because they did not know how to study, and they could not get any real support form their families when it come to this, where people from more well-off areas fared a lot better simply because they came from households where they had the chance to learn how to study. Having parents with a university degree is going to give you a huge edge over people who's parents dropped out of high school)
People from poorer neighbourhoods are far less likely to be able to move to a place where they can get a good education. If they don't have a good college or university nearby, that's going to be a problem.
People from poorer neighbourhoods generally have access to worse primary education than people from richer ones. A well off neighbourhood will have access to better equipment and quite likely also better teachers. If you have a choice, will you be a teacher in a "problem area" or in a nicer area?

Offering grants and support from different organizations is at best a band-aid, but it's not solving the problem. And really, it's a very hard problem to solve, one I personally can't give a good solution to (if I could, I guess I would be able to win the Nobel prize in economics, because this is not a problem anyone has a good solution to).

Then when it comes to finding good jobs people from minority groups run into another problem. Good old discrimination. There are laws against discrimination, of course, but just because you write a law against something does not mean that the problem goes away (if that was the case, we would not have any fraud, robberies, assaults and so on). And this is also a problem that's very hard to actually get to. How do you prove that any given workplace was actively discriminating someone? You can see trends, like people with a certain background, a certain skin colour and so on having a harder time finding work even when everything else is equal, but it's hard to point to any one case and punish them for discrimination.

This also ties into the concept of social mobility. How likely are you to stay in the "class" you were born in? The economist recently had an article about it, where they pointed out that people in the US greatly overestimate peoples chance to climb the social ladder. The US actually has some of the lowest social mobility of all OECD countries (not THE lowest though, that dishonour goes to the UK). Source (Sweden has incidentally lost ground here since last I checked, which I find disheartening, but not surprising).

not all parents who never been in college are incompetent in getting their kids to study

No, of course not, most parents wants their kids to do well and have a good life, but parents with a higher education are at a natural advantage when it comes to supporting their children through college & university. Compare someone like me who's parents could not help them with maths during the first year of high school to someone who's parents has an engineering degree, the person who's parents has an engineering degree.

I have an engineering degree now. I have free time. And if I were to have kids, I would be far better equipped to help them with their future studies than my parents ever were.

Every media tries to make it look as if Sweden has 0 issues. You try to make it look like that. But yet again people are scared... I wonder how this adds up. But hey. Sweden has no rape issues, right? And their government didn't claim that white people are to blame for anything that ever happens... I mean. Sweden is fine. Being bad is just an illusion. It's just randomly used as an example by normal people, while the media covers it as fake news... But statistics... And "If u dont believe statistics u suck"... >.>

Frankly, I don't know how to respond to this other than I'm pretty certain you don't know how to read. Or you're incredibly selective about it.
Nobody claimed that Sweden has 0 issues. I even pointed out that Sweden has issues.
Nobody claimed that Sweden has no rape issues, rapes happen, that is an issue, but those claims that Sweden has a massive amounts of rapes are false.

And their government didn't claim that white people are to blame for anything that ever happens...

No, nobody ever claimed this.

But statistics... And "If u dont believe statistics u suck"... >.>

Frankly, you're a complete moron if you don't believe in properly conducted studies that looks at every single reported crime in a country and compiles the raw numbers and think that you know more than that, that your information is better than this.

Yeah. Your government did claim it. And statistics are real cause a major part 9f the reports are ignored and not taken im or people are simply too scared to go and report it the first place mr "moron"

In that case you're talking about a different Swedish government than me. Are there two Sweden in the world?

Reality check time:
Do you think your sources are better than a source that has access to every single police report in Sweden, and also presents the raw data?

How do you explain that the amount of people seeking medical aid for sexual violence has remained more or less the same over the last 10 years, while the amount of people reporting rapes has gone up?

Because I don't care about your 5 days late comment. If you want to keep a conversation keep it in the timeline. When I had the mood to talk about it, you hid, now you come after rethinking your life for 5 days to annoy me with bollocks comments. GO listen to Isreal's eurovision winner or something, I bet you'd enjoy that.

Some of us have a social life and real life friends that go before internet debates. .

But I did expect you to not have a response to this. And considering the link you used above used a Swedish neo-nazi blog as its source, well that did tell me more than enough about you. You use neo-nazi propaganda as sources! Are you a neo-nazi? (Funny enough, that blog also claims that people from Romania & Bulgaria are rapists & thieves, and this was in response to the amount of beggars that come to Sweden from Romania & Bulgaria).

Also, I have absolutely no idea what Israel's contribution to Eurovision was, because I don't watch Eurovision.

1) You got no life, cause you didnt shut up after you came late with 6 days.
2) Your brain is a neo nazi, stop abusing that absurd term for everything that's not liberal.
3) They don't lie. There's tons of rapists from Bulgaria and Romania, only one small detail is missing. They are actually gypsis who call themselves "Bulgarian" or "Romanian" only when they do crime and get caught. IF you observe some Bulgarian reports you'll see how these same people say "You Bulgarians", even if they are on theory Beulgarian themselves.

Have a nice life with your bollocks comments and enjoy your saint of a country and statistics. Guess in Sweden it's okay to sleep with a 10-13 y.o girl without her even wanting to do it... Pretty much why I'll never step foot in your country, even if I get paid to do it.

I'm not abusing the term, I'm talking bout actual neo-nazis. You know, the kind who likes to vandalize and burn synagogues, who are seen marching wearing swastikas, that sort of neo-nazis. Relevant

ANTIFA is not exactly known for going after synagogues and mosques, now are they? Unlike the people who you get your sources from (no, I don't support ANTIFA; nor do I support AFA, the local counterpart)
