Saw it. Never saw the previous versions, but didn't really like it. I'm not a big fan of action films or anything, though. Only went because the family wanted to. I will say Haley Bennett is gorgeous, though.

I like westerns, and once I saw the trailer, I had to check it out. So I went last night, on opening night.

It's a good movie, but it is maybe not quite sure what it wants to be. A western sure...but a drama? A comedy? A black comedy? And in the attempt to diversify the group, they went a little overboard. Oh, and I know you don't really go to see movies like this for the plot...but I have to ask:

WHERE DID THE "GOOD GUYS" GET ALL OF THEIR AMMUNITION?! They must have fired 5,000 shots.

Vincent D'Onofrio was unexpected and fantastic. Denzel was great, of course. I love "quiet Denzel" anyway, and it's a perfect style for a western. Ethan Hawke overacted just a bit. Chris Pratt is turning out to be a really good actor.

Bottom line: I had really high expectations and it didn't quite live up to them. But I still enjoyed myself.

definitely agree that the diversity seemed a little forced, but it was a good effort, anyway! i had no idea vincent d'onofrio was even IN the movie until the opening credits, so that was a pleasant surprise, and it was nice to see him play someone other than the villain ^^

I suggest seeing the original first. That is, Akira Kurosawa 's original, not Hollywood's version. Do your best to understand it within the context of the culture and it's time period. It truly is a masterpiece. I believe it is currently available on Hulu.
