It's hard for me to believe that I watched that anime back in 2002 (and the anime itself I think is from late 90s so it wasn't quite new at the time), yet the manga is still ongoing.

To be honest - I've never watched Berserk anime, but I love older comics and first viddeo game (the second one also looks good, but it wasn't released outside Japan). But wait! There's new Berserk game in the works. It probably will be typical Omega Force slasher, but I'm OK with that.

You really missed out. I don't know much about Universe (owned it, but kept corrupting my memory card, so I couldn't save), but the original games were great, as well as Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast and Gamecube.

FYI the original Phantasy Star was Master System, not Genesis, so you won't be able to find it on steam, but it's common enough courtesy of certain Sega collections, such as the Phantasy Star Trilogy on GBA, or the Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis Master Collection on PS3 and 360.
Also original relied on first person dungeons, where as 2 and up relied on what is now more traditional open dungeons.

Googling for comparisons... so far graphical detail and audio seems to be higher quality on snes, and snes had a flamethrower weapon that wasn't in the genesis version... didn't see a mention of the hidden levels yet.

Since I'm not sure most links would be allowed (despite me seeing various links all the time), I'll just say to google retro sanctuary zombies at my neighbors (actual google search was "zombies ate my neighbors snes vs sega" but retro came up first for me)
I still haven't seen that special stage, but if I recall correctly you could only access it through a password on snes, and it wasn't available on the genesis version. I might be wrong about it though.
