thank god/gods/dogs/cats/whatever you believe in..that most of us arent as narrow minded as the person who thought "if you dont like rap you are racist".....i'm colorblind..i choose not to see racial difference or color of skin..it doesnt matter

I just plain dont like rap. I dont think its racist since its a bunch of defrent ethnic groups that write and sing rap. and even if that was not the case it does not mean you have to like something or else your raciest. all that being said everyone is a bit racist if they believe or joke around about stereo types. dos-int mean your at the point of hating another race tho or mean any harm by it.

i don't understand why people put rap and other types of music together, sure it's considered music but let's face it...rap is just glorified poetry with music beeing 90% bass, yes there are some hits that have good music and rap in it but mostly, rap is poetry(90% vulgar/violent/uneducative/racist,sexist,something-ist poetry), you dont sing or make beautiful music with your voice, you make rhymes with fast sounds (or words in some cases)
not to mention it get's people into the "yoyo wha da faq yo talkin bout bra?" type of talking, thinking and "style" which is just disgusting, it literally takes you back to beeing a simple human
being a rapper? sure, prostitutes, some diseases here and there, drugs, alchool, premature deaths, fighting, sometimes even gets to weaponry, want me to continue? and yeah i know that some other types of music have this stuff aswell but compared to others rap (<=meaing style and way of life besides the poetry) lead the way

thats just bad music but still music. even if the lyrics are full of abuse to women and approval of drugs and sale of drugs most of the time. sometimes about beating someone up or killing them. i really dont get the appeal.
ofcours not all of it is like this but no one can say the majority is not.

Ever listened to The Roots? Damn, they're even popular. Full band with Drums, Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, Piano, Keyboard and whatever you can think of. You really do seem to have listened to some bad songs.
You ever listened to some Jazz Rap? Take Guru with his JazzMatazz albums for example. And again a rapper that was popular and very well known in music.
You ever listened to music from the south of the US like Louisiana, especially from New Orleans where Jazz is dominant? You'll get some trumpets and horns all over the songs, really cool.
I bet you don't like Jazz either but okay, no problem. What about Linkin Park? They rap and sing. And as far as I know, they don't have bassy instrumentals.
So many Metal bands, that surely don't use the bass so often, they rap.
These are just examples that are popular. So much more to find when you just take 20 minutes of your time and do some research. It's so easy nowadays.
EDIT: Oooh, now I remember the Late Orchestration of Kanye West. I know, there not many who like him but this concert was the best I've seen from him. He has an orchestra and it's just amazing.

Wow you really do think like that, right? Rap is not a style and way of life. What you mean is Hip Hop. Rap is just the form of presenting or as rappers say delivering the lyrics to the audience. Rap is being used in poetry for a long time. Spoken words is another type of rap if you look at it closely. One of the first who I know of doing this was Gil Scott-Heron in the 70s.
The 90% you are talking about is what you see in the media. But did you do some research? Did you completely listen to a full album maybe of someone you may think that he is not in the 90%? What I know of rap and Hip Hop is a completely different thing. You just have to be a little bit open-minded about it and dig deeper and don't scratch the surface because all you get is dirt. Deeper you will find the gems. in my HCBailly voice "You played that RPG before!"

Seriously 90% of rap is actually good, the shit is the 10% thats popularized by Media/TV/Radio.

This is the first time I've ever heard about a music genre being linked to racism.
Personally, I don't like rap music, whether it is from a white, black, or mixed artiste. I don't like it is because it is usually too loud and with retarded lyrics which often are written with the intention of rhyme rather than any sense. For the same reason, most of the pop music these days are annoying too (and don't even bring up the horrible abomination called dubstep, THAT IS NOT MUSIC!)
I prefer nice melodies, classic rock. Sounds like Elvis, Beatles, Bob Marley etc and bands like Coldplay and The Script. I don't think that makes me racist. Makes me very finicky about my music.

:D I like what you did there .
But in all honestly, a majority of rap music, especially those which are called "gangsta rap" tend to have rubbish lyrics. Most of them tend to have "uh"s and "ahh"s in them following the beats which make it sound like they have some kind of speech impediment.
I'll admit I don't listen to a lot of rap music and a few like Eminem do tend to have good lyrics ( though his songs are so angry, bitter and full of angst T_T), most of the ones I've heard, have made me quite wary of them.

You see, this is why rap is being hated so much. Because of people that don't know the material. This is the problem with music in general. People don't listen to what really is that type of genre. In rap and Hip Hop you have so many artists and bands and musicians playing the music. I can show you many rappers that follow another route. You will always here words like "ah" and "uh", this is just to feel the rhythm but if this is what you're focused on, then no wonder you have a bad picture of rap in your mind.
At this point, let me advertise a friend of mine. He is rapping for a long time now (10-15 years or so and he's only 25), his name is Concrete Cee and comes from Berlin, Germany. If you don't like the sounds, I understand that but lyrically you need to listen before you judge.
I'm not here to convince anybody that rap is THE genre in music and should be crowned for something. I just want to show you other areas. Not that commercial bullshit pop-rap-gangsta-rap mix nobody wants to listen anymore. That's the radios and TV stations giving you the image of what you should think rap is like but it's not. Even I hate rap now and I'm listening to rap all my life.

The same can be said about basically any music genre. There's always lots of variance in the genres, but they are usually judged by the most popular artists. I don't think the rap styles differ much musically, but the theme they're rapping about differs greatly.

I used to listen to Eminem as well, but only for a short time when I was younger, and before he got so damn angry. I liked his songs that were supposed to be funny, like The Real Slim Shady and Without Me. I still kinda like that kind of rap, I really like Macklemore's music for example.

This is all quite retarded. I don't like rap because I don't like speech-driven music (most of my favorite pieces are instrumental only), and I don't date other ethnicity girls because I was born in a country where there were few to none in the 80s, thus I developed specific aesthetic criteria during my youth. I don't feel racist because I don't like what a majority of another ethnicity groups like.

The only time I pay it any attention is when the lyrics are horrible. Like these lyrics:

Following the rap trend so they don't look like racists? Have you ever considered the possibility that they are just able to appreciate rap for its fine lyrical depth?
Some songs just move you.
Just kidding. I saw that recently and the lasagna one made me laugh. But as with many other genres I know of, even if I can't stand most of the rap/hip-hop music I hear, I'm still able to find some songs and artists I like...

Musical preference does grow out of what you're exposed to, so it can be affected by race (or rather, culture). Some people are less flexible, and enjoy mainly what they grew on, others are more open to styles.
Different people define "racism" differently, so some extreme definitions might consider that failure to like all art forms and norms of different cultures is racist. This sounds rather stupid to me, but it's how some people think.

Don't like rap? Then your racist against white people, eh?

I came across this point of a comment on youtube.com. I did not think of it at first and simply thought the person was way off. Now I think about it again. I wonder how many people are following rap trend because they do think it is racist to not like rap? I have a feeling this kind of thinking might be little more common but I hope I am wrong. So, I wonder how many people are doing/following things because they think it would be racist (or input other word) to not do so.
Lol, maybe a more bizarre example could be being part of an interracial relationship because it would be racist to not date outside your ethnicity. This is just an example. No doubt there's at least few out there that actually do this. I am pretty sure there is a word for what I am trying to say. What do you people think?
