Way to piss off the pc gaming world, Bethesda. Looks like if you want the pc version of Fallout 76, you are going to HAVE to get it off Bethesda.net.

Thanks, Bethesda. You saved me money. Well, I wasn't going to get it anyway so.....

They already ruined Fallouts, nothing they can do will make it worse. From RPG to FPS to MMOFPS, great job. If only they had made a crowdfunder for Black Isle to make them instead of making another Elder Infinite Runner.

Levels of excitement for this:

NEW FALLOUT GAME

Oh, it's by Bethesda...

...and it's an online, multiplayer-heavy title

... which will be initially available only on Bethesda.net

Give the license to Obsidian so we get another proper game in the series, please!

Read the whole article then cry..It will come at a later date in steam platform as well..and yes it makes sense to do that because steam gets a big cut from the sales, that will be completed it either way because people like fallouts and they dont care about which platform..I would do the same as a producer its 100% good money planning.

Valve is the main trendmaker in DRM industry, allowing users to buy AAA games literally for free. Without Steam you would buy another shit from Uplay and Origin with 25% discount for 40 bucks.

Considering the fans were harping on for nearly two decades now to get a Fallout Online, to the point where there are two unofficial FOnline versions available for years for people to play (FOnline 2 and FOnline Reloaded), I kinda doubt that.

Steam is now just another platform. It's got the biggest market share but is no way the only way to make games available and with the major cut they take, I understand Bethesda for not wanting to accept the extra cost anymore.
IMO, Steam is not what it used to be. When I created my account almost 8 years ago, it was a great way to get good games in a convenient way. Now, it's mostly a landfill where you have to shovel out piles of crap to find the good stuff.
/rant
I have little interest in F76 but if they deliver a great game, I'll take a look, even if it's not on Steam.

Elder scrolls online is a great mmo and is getting better and better if Beth make something similar with Fallout 76 I am not opposed to buying it..People wined about ''skyrim online'' will be bad but it turned out to be a multi awarded and one of the top mmorpg of all time...so try to be more open-minded

Yep, it was so famously astonishing as an MMORPG masterpiece that it had to drop the monthly subscription fee entirely because nobody was paying it.

More power to Bethesda, not that they are any saints, but I'll passively support any attempt to lessen Valve's grip on the gaming-worlds collective balls.

More power to the corporate "freedom fighters" which oppose Valve's monopoly? I think not. Also, I tend to link even non-Steam games to my profile, just so I can run them alongside the Steam Overlay and be able to easily link and share screenshots. That being said, Fallout has gradually lost its bite as time went by. And I mean especially when compared to the old school titles from this series which defined the post-apocalytic subgenre in gaming. Do yourselves a favor and play Fallout 1 and 2. This shiny Fallout 76 is almost as blasphemous as the new Command & Conquer: Rivals "smartphone game". Taking a registered trademark and slapping it onto something which bears next to no resemblance to the source material. A cash grab by any other name...

Well, Origin is sadly not exactly known for its great discounts. That said, I am still hoping to get FFXV there. I reaaaaaally do not want to play it on Steam if I can avoid it. (There is also the Windows Store version, but I am a bit ambivalent on that still.)

After Fallout 4 I'm not going to buy any other 'Fallout' game by Bethesda. The fact that it's multiplayer only makes it even less interesting. Guess how much the decision to not put it on Steam changes for me ;)

I'd hazard the guess that they are more likely banking on that many potential buyers did not get the memo. Their trustpilot reviews are so high, such a blatant mass scam would not even dent it.

Well this is nice news to me. I was already on the edge if I would buy it or not because of the whole "hey this is just multiplayer focus" thing but now it's decided - I'm not going to get their client just to play something I wasn't 100% into. I sure love saving money for games that'll give me the singleplayer content I long for!

Permalink

I really don't get why people are so bothered about a 300MB-ish client when we're talking about 50GB-ish games. Just think of it as a part of the game... Particularly for a multiplayer-only game, as most multiplayer-only games have always had a launcher.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like launching games via a mandatory "client" either. But the problem is being forced to use a client (particularly a very dominant single one), not being forced to have a few different ones depending on the game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do completely agree that the main issue is having to use any client at all but unfortunately they have come to stay and you just have to pick what you're willing to "put up with." For me it isn't the size of the client, it's just the simple annoyance of having so many to clutter my desktop/startup. I guess I'd view the matter differently if I played a lot of multiplayer-only games but I don't play them. My decision not to get this client is based on my disinterest in Fallout 76 precisely because it's a multiplayer game now. If it had been a singleplayer game then I may have just bought it despite it not being on Steam and put up with another client addition.
So, multiplayer+new client = not happening for me. :D

so many to clutter my desktop/startup

Ah, I see. I run no client at startup and I don't let them put links on my desktop, so I guess that's why having one more or one less doesn't change things much to me.

my disinterest in Fallout 76 precisely because it's a multiplayer game now

Yeah, I don't get why Bethesda is trying so hard to move TES and Fallout to multiplayer (except to try and milk cash from subscriptions and transactions)... the great thing about these games is precisely that they are huge single player worlds IMO :s

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sadly big multiplayers are just what's getting more attention now so several big companies think there's no market for singleplayer games any longer. They're of course mistaken but they'll get sales anyway so it's unlikely for them to care about anything but following the trend. Let's just patiently wait for a Fallout game that plays exactly like Fortnite. :p

I don't need 20 different launchers. That's why I use only Steam. Also... other platforms are too bad.

Steam has: ingame chat, screenshots, friends that actually plats, stats and more. I don't know any game launcher that has those things. For example I can't make screens on Origin and they disabled possibility of running their game on Steam. It was possible before.

Obsidian is a MicroSoft subsidiary now, so considering the state of IP laws in the US, the chances for this to happen is zero, considering they would have to share profits with Microsoft.

Online only game? MMO? Wouldn't want it anyway so good riddance :)
Anyway the best game to come is going to be Cyberpunk 2077 anyway (imho) and if they would decide to only release on their own platform (gog.com) then that would be a blast indeed :D (Drm-free only, I'd love it!) they probably won't do that, though :/ shame.

i never checking upcoming games because of my huge backlog but as now i checked that one and seen the developer name on it cyberpunk 2077 will be probably the 3rd game in my life i buy for full price as developers whose love the games not just forced to create income by shareholders deserve the money. I hope CDred will stay the passionate smaller company and not going to be big greedy crap.

Then again 95% of titles on Steam is crap now, F76 would be a drop in the bucket.
