That was a LOT of work, more so because I couldnยดt be sure if I had already visited a link (plus my Powerpoint would give me an error when trying to visit the links, which meant copy/pasting them), but I did find a handful of games I was interested in, so thanks.

Really old Powerpoint? Just interested in why it would give you an error. I'm on O365, so I have the latest and greatest, so just trying to understand what the extent of backwards compatibility happens to be. :)
Also, worst case, just open it in Powerpoint Online, and everything should work even if the hotspots are a little more wonky. ๐

Yeah, it required a spreadsheet to keep track of everything, and lots of testing. I found one out of 75 where I'd accidentally moved and changed the hotspot instead of copying it and just altering the URL attribute, and had to figure out what the missing game was. That was...well, ugh. :D The really time-consuming part was trying to map all of these hotspots...I think that if I do another one of these in the future, I can do a bit faster because they're all already there...but I'll have to be sure that I don't miss any (so that I don't have lingering links to old GAs), which could be a smidge tricky.

Thank you for the funny idea, especially when an item sends you to a game that is, somehow, related to it ๐

Thank you very much for this interesting journey! I really appreciate all the work you put into this.
A few comments, maybe someone mentioned it but I'm too tired now to read it all, sorry XD The issues could be related to me using the online version as I didn't open it properly.
Again, thank you very much for your hard work and great idea :) Have a cute kitten for all the effort :D

Hi, and thanks for the input! Here are some comments on what you mentioned...
1) Yes, if you're not clicking on an actionable area, the default action in Powerpoint to clicking on the slide is to move to the next slide. My suggestion is always to float over what you think you plan to click and see if you get the tooltip that shows there is a link there before clicking. That way, you won't accidentally advance the slide.
2) Yes, this is a little more tricky in the online version. It takes custom or rotated shapes and expands them to a vertically-aligned rectangle that describes the outer limits of the shape, including what would normally be blank space. If you use the full Powerpoint app, then this doesn't happen, and my carefully-drawn hot spots apply very directly to the objects, so it's more obvious. Basically, in the online version, you'll see that rectangle, and that entire area is clickable. This is a limitation that I didn't know about previously, and I'll probably find a way to take this into account for any future events like this that I do.
3) This also appears to be a limitation of the free online viewer. There is a max limit to the tooltip and it truncates the URL. But at least you know something is there. For me, I could see the first letter or two at the end, and so by mousing back and forth, I could at least see when that changed and knew that I was hovering over a new hot spot. Again, in full Powerpoint, this isn't an issue and it shows the complete URL.
4) But then that wouldn't be challenging enough. :D :D :D
Anyway, I'm glad you liked it and hope that you had fun. I'm going to try to find ways to work with the limitations in the future to make it easier to click on things. I already have a new design idea for the next Trash Tornado... ๐

Thank you for your speedy reply! :D As for the point no. 1... I don't know why I didn't think of it... That's how I sometime/often move slides myself... I was so absorbed in the 'game', I didn't think. Oh, and I mentioned, I was tired, heh ;)
As for point no. 4: I'm not sure if making it that way makes it more challenging or just grinder ;) But I totally get your point of view :)

Actually, I didn't do anything to remove middle button functionality (I was just being facetious with my comment :D)...I think that's just the way that the online mode works with PP "show" files. :)

Very cool idea grez1! Thanks for all the giveaways!
I just wanted to say I got a bit scared by the file format... no need to save as macro-enabled if there are no macros...
Also you may want to lock your file so it can't be edited... After having fun on the first slide for a while I figured there was another way and it took me all of 1 minute to extract all the links and open them all in my browser.

Hmmm...the link was supposed to be a no-edit link. But I'm better that I need to change the settings in the file itself too. Good catch. I'll do that here in a minute. Thanks. :)
EDIT: just checked and you shouldn't be able to edit the file. It's already shared as "view only." If you think that you actually have editing right, add a note or something on a slide in there and save it. That should trigger my digital signature that I applied and I'll know there's an issue. But the trick with exposing the URLs is just a feature that I don't think I can turn off, regardless of whether the user has editing rights or not.

Mmmmm. I can't enter anymore because "it has a digital signature"

I was just trying to use that to ensure that no one changed the file. It should still let you read it. Weird. I'll remove it...don't want to keep people from the game! It'll be changed in about 90 seconds. :)

Well I downloaded the file after I saw you said that we can't easily click on all the links...
I immediately renamed it into ppt (because I can't stand PPS and that PPSM was quite scary tbh).
And I was able to edit it at will. There's a way to lock it into pps I think so that no other smartass like me can just add a macro to extract all the links :)

Interesting, and good to know. I'll be that since the download function is essentially "save as" that it's re-granting all right (despite the fact that both the file and folder it's saved in are both set to view-only rights), which is not what I want to do, obviously. I'll figure something out.
That said, if anyone wants to cheat with the links, it's not the end of the world. But it does take some of the challenge out of things. Maybe I'll have to scramble the URLs and run a macro to decrypt them and actually redirect. Bwwwuuuaaahahahaha!

Have a bump for the nice way of getting rid of keys :D

FINAL DAY! Ends tonight, September 20th!
Man, I have all of this junk just laying around, and it's taking up so much space in these drawers! I should probably donate some of this stuff. I hear that Steamgifts will take practically anything off of your hands if you just simply drop it off there! ๐
There are four junk drawers, and just like everyone's junk drawer in their home, there is a whole lot of crap that's probably only useful to a few people, but there are also some more valuable things, some of which you may have been searching for. The only way to discover if there's anything useful that you want is to simply dig through the drawers. You only need to be level 1 to look through the drawers. September 20th is the last day you have to dig through my junk.
The drawers are actual pictures of real junk drawers and are stored in a slide show. You'll notice if you float your mouse around the various objects that if something is worth picking up and looking at, a URL will likely pop up momentarily when you point at an object. If you click, you'll be sent to the GA where you can take a closer look. To navigate between the four drawers, simply use the left and right arrow keys, or you can press space or enter to move forward and backspace to move backward as well.
Now, if you dig enough, you may come across eight more-valuable-than-average GAs hidden among the others. Three of them are level 3+ and the other five are level 5+. Four of the eight are unbundled games!
Ok, I've kept you waiting long enough. I know that we have a metric crap-ton of expert trash pickers around here, so jump right on in and start sorting through the Junk Drawers! Good luck!
BTW, the slide show was made in Powerpoint. It's saved in a public folder on my OneDrive. So, if you want, you can download the file so that you don't have to always open it from my OneDrive (you should see controls available to let you do this once you open the slide show). This might be especially handy if you have Powerpoint installed on your machine so that you can just view it locally (it'll automatically pop open your browser when you click on junk in the drawer). If you don't have Powerpoint, no worries -- you can view the slide show in your browser with Powerpoint Online. Some really awesome Steamgifters helped me test this earlier today and we verified that you don't need to download, install, or sign up for anything to view the slides.
EDIT: I am seeing some differences in how Powerpoint Online handles the graphics in the browser vs. having the full Powerpoint app installed. I created very specific shapes for highlighting, and in full Powerpoint, it respects those shapes. In the online version, it simplifies this to a rectangle that defines the total X/Y area of the shape (including empty space)...so, this means I've found some cases where you now suddenly can't get to a smaller shape because it's covered up by a larger one (because they're now both big rectangles instead of the carefully-drawn shapes that I created ๐). So, if you have Powerpoint, definitely use that, because it's a better experience. In the meantime, I've started reducing the hot-spot size of a few that I've discovered so that you can get to the others nearby...just know that in a browser, you may have to look along the outer edges of some objects. I think this is due to the nicer PP graphics getting converted to image maps for HTML. If you find anything that you're pretty sure should be clickable and can't get to it, let me know and I'll try to tweak things around to expose the object better.
