I just enjoy playing it with friends, by myself it's not all that

Two years ago when I bought it, it was fun. It was fun, until suddenly became some roleplaying game with levels, dragons, potions and stupid shit. And then it exploded with 10 year olds making stupid lets plays and shit. Now I don't like Minecraft. But it was fun once, now its shit.

Vanilla and single player is boring i agree, but playing on mod packs such as Tekkit, Big Dig or FTB with few friends on private server is a lot of fun.
Its not a game that i would plays weeks and months but we usually check out cool mod packs from time to time.

Maybe overrated from your own personal pov,but not from an objective one. I don't really play it but I say it's not overrated.I played(haven't played in about a year) it and it kind of bores me after some time but I don't go around saying it's overrated just based on my experience,I can understand it's potential and why it got all the hype.

Minecraft brings relaxation to me.
I never really played it for action, creativity, or whatever else to be honest. I played it and still play it when I have one of those bad days, when a lot of problems wave my way. Or after shooting/blowing up/whatever around in different games for hours, and my head hurts already from the sounds of war, I just quit, start up this little game called Minecraft and lose my thoughts in a world of adventure.
Certainly it's not everyone's favorite, and personally I look at it more as a helpful program that helps me relax instead of advanced progression.
I just enjoy sitting around in my house, writing up a story in an in-game diary, and relaxing instead of mining for days, getting insta-diamond armor and fighting the Ender Dragon and stuff like that.
Minecraft is a creative art, you just have to lose yourself in it and concentrate on what matters the most: The peace it brings. That until you fall in to lava, all your stuff burns and you want to smash your monitor for it.

By reading "Once you get your diamond tools and stuff its basically over" and your thread I understood you only played survival, survival servers or survival modded minecraft, obviously this will get you bored, and there are not good enough survival servers out there, because of deteriored maps, trolls, stupid rules, etc. But you can play infinite things in multiplayer like Survival Games, The Walls, Trouble in Mineville, Paintball, Mario Kart, different TnT games, Super Smash Bros, Craftbomber, Parkour, Castle Defense, coop adventure maps, Capture the Flag, PvP maps, and a lot more things without any mods, there are a lot of multiplayer servers with 1500-3000 ppl or even more at all times. Survival got me bored in Minecraft after some time and I'm not playing it more, but I have over 1500 hours in Minecraft I think, because of these minigames servers, the most I like is Hunger/Survival games. But Minecraft is a lot funnier if you play with friend/s even in a server where you have already a team of 10-80 strangers. I suggest you trying some of these big servers, I think the fun is there and not just playing survival or variations of survival and getting diamonds. I have 20 years old and I think this game is really awesome, you can't do that amount of things in any game even in other sandboxes.

Overrated? Of course, there will be always someone who will state what you've said on the first sentence.
Personally, i only play it in SP, and survival, very rarely i might add, but when i do i usually build up an entire fortress and whatnot, i find it a bit relaxing, and the fact that the objective is as dynamic as your creativity is, and that is something i admire because not many games manage to get your attention when the objective is so simple yet so complex at the same time.
This is my opinion of course though, as you have yours as well, it's just a matter of what perspective you're looking at the game with.

ya its overrated but its still a pretty good game that i put a decent number of hours into

Created my perfect world in survival: house built inside a small cave, with a great view and natural waterfalls. created a farm with pigs, chickens and cereals. Created hundreds of traps like mines and lava holes in the floor...(all in survival)
My pc had a serious problem and I had to format(I always try others solutions before this), I've made a backup of works and photos. Forgot to backup my MC save...
After that just got boring.

I commit that vanilla itself can get boring after time, espacially if you play it all alone.
Then i'd advice you to try Hexxit or similar modifications which are stunningly fantastic and add soo much to the game you cannot even imagine. This should keep your interest up for at least two more years!!

I love the game yet despise the community. It was fun back when it had just entered beta after that it gained crazy popularity and the community turned into the steaming pile of dung it is. The first minecon showed just how many kids played it, it may as well be roblox.

Before you go all "omg ur such a nub minecreft is teh best gaim evur!!!11!" on me hear my points.
Sure, it can be fun for a while, but all the attention its gotten is really too much. Its a very simplistic game, and the only way I found fun on it was modding it, which got boring after a while too. Once you get your diamond tools and stuff its basically over, nothing else to do but build and you have the creative mode for that.
Also you have about 100 thousand minecraft youtubers, which try to copy the success of others which is very annoying, making youtube like 50% minecraft videos. If I wanted to watch people build I'd sit down and watch a construction site.
And time for the 'best' part. The multiplayer. All there is to say about it is that its a bunch of kids aged 5 - 12 with yogscast skins that 'troll' by destroying pixelated bricks and then the occasional 30 year old creeper that plays it too.
TL;DR - I don't enjoy minecraft and I think its overrated.
