I have the older Z2300 and they still kick ass.
Even the Z5500 still rule. So yeah, go for a Logitech model. :)

I recently bought Mackie CR4 for my PC (I used to have 5.1 system by Creative). Mackie's are good, but the active speaker emits some buzz, when in idle in a quiet room - I don't, if it is normal for (studio) monitor speakers, but it could be. Other than that, the speakers are worth every cent I spent (although you have to keep in mind that this is a 2.0 system without a subwoofer).

Personally i'd suggest to get a decent used amp (technics?) and attach some decent boxes to it. (amp may already come with such). IMHO the quality gain should be noticable. Was using a 50€ 5.1 "el-cheapo" setup.. Sharkoon Audics 5.1. Now using an AIWA NSX-D6 amp with decent 3-way boxes (2.0 setup). The difference is about night & day. Wouldn't even think about going back to computer speakers.

If you have that much money to spend, I would recommend a pair of KRK Rokit RP5 or RP6. ;)

They are monitor speakers, used in studios worldwide. Flat and delicious sound (once you go flat you never go back), but can be equalized by software if you want more bass or something like that.

I've read some discussions about speakers; they agreed, that for a PC 5.1/7.1 is useless (the sound quality is not good enough for the distance you usually use them); 2.1 is very expensive if you want a really good one, so your best choice is a 2.0 system. The best of the cheapest speakers is the Genius 1250B/1255B; if you can pay a biz more, buy a Kürbis :)
