Looks nice - the "best of both worlds" layout is a sensible choice. I hope they also took a look at keyboard accessibility, which has always been one of Steam's weak points.

If it's anything like the "events" interface they've already shoe-horned into the store page, I shudder to imagine how bad it'll be. The activity feed was just fine before, thank you. If you could just stop breaking things that already work that would be great, Valve.

Ugh. Now I sound like a grumpy old man. (Maybe I should play something to chill out before they break the library too.)

I've already categorized all my library by genres. Whatever they're doing, I hope they don't mess up my categories.

It's a welcoming change that looks better than the current UI, in my opinion. Anything that removes the god-awful & useless Recent News section is a win.

Been wanting new library design forever. And been patiently waiting since they announced this some months ago

So Im excited about this. I want to see how this turns out and hopefully it improves usage of Steam

It does seem an actual improvement, for once, not just a reshuffle of elements!

Here I was thinking it was going to be a big overhaul to complete with GOG Galaxy 2.0, but I guess not. Nothing too outstanding here to me, I still wish they'd give you the ability to customize your activity feed and hide people / games / different types of updates.

Trying right now, some observations:

  • Banners are now vertical, Half of my games are lacking one, it will probably be added, but I don't like this change because I have a lot of custom horizontal banners.

  • Free games (even uninstalled) that you added, now appear to re-download in the library

  • Rare achievements have a glowing aura

  • The same tags used in the store search are now available to filter the games in your library

  • Ram usage has increased a lot, right now two of steamwebhelper.exe are eating more than 400mb of ram each, terrible for me with just 4gb of ram, hope the final version is more optimized.

oh god, I only have 2 gb of RAM, I wont be able to even run a DOS game at this point on steam.

mhh categories did not carry over and trying to create new ones just got me an error message, but from the looks of it you are still unable to create nested categories?

Thank you for the warning, I would really not cope well with having my categories deleted.

They didnt get deleted, reverting back to stable restored the categories as well. If you want to be on the safe side you can backup your categories before opting into the beta. The file "steamdir/userdata/userid/7/remote/sharedconfig.vdf" contains these infos.

Thanks! Sad to see hidden games still don't show their actual categories though :(

well that's the purpose of them being hidden in the first place lol, if i wanted for anyone who uses my pc without my permission not to find those games then putting them in their own categorie would do the exact opposite xD

very nice, i like it how we now can see the community created content in the bottom along side now updates and the trading cards without keeping on switching between tabs all the time. and the new library designe looks cool as well especially the new collection management, and it already helped me discover new highly rated indies that are already in my library butnever noticed them before lol

Is it automatic or do you have to request access to this beta?

Comment has been collapsed.

you need to switch to the beta, valve are still developping this more based on the users feedback

I removed all my games from categories and next to uncategorized is a number (606 / 713) which I think shows how many games are in the library vs how many are assigned to the account (ie. including games that purposefully removed or played for free). Wonder why Valve thinks that would be useful enough to add?

It won't hurt you. But there also a good thing for those who may accidentally hide wrong game - when you use search in your library you can see at the bottom collapsed "hidden" group that can show if desired game is right there

I would like to point out that its a 160 mb update, so thats quite a load for an UI which only serve to launch your games.
