Short giveaways that ends usually within a day or even few hours has this pro, that not that much people can entry them, so there is always higher chance to win for those who are lucky to see them. But in other hand, You could just miss such, so it's higher chance to see the giveaway if it's set to end after a day or few. But there is more people who entry, so the chances for winning are lower in the exchange.

What do You think?

Also do You prefer giveaways without or low contribution level requirment or higher, but sometimes higher than Your own level? The same as above...
When level is lower, more people can entry, but with too high level it can exceed Yours.

As I intend to continue giving games away, I would like to know what You prefer. I just achieved 6 level myself, so it's pretty good time to ask the question, right?

[Longer] Long live the giveaways!
[Shorter] Shortcut to quick win!

I prefer day long ones. sometimes 2 or 3 days. Just as a general rule for mine.

I generally set mine to end at 10pm my time. So If I do it before 10pm you have a bit over a day. If I'm doing it at 1am before going to bed then you have a bit under a day. But this lets everyone around the world have a chance to see it and it means i can send keys at the end of my day.

I don't mind the longer week plus ones but I don't generally make them myself. That said I have done both longer and much shorter ones as well but I think my standard is a day or two at most.

I like a short 1 hour one if I happen to be on and can enter. I dislike them If I don't see them. :) lol.

I used to win pretty cool games when I first registered (like Crysis 2, which became my fav game after I won and played). But now I mostly win some cheap games not from top priority wishlist. But I'm still glad.

Haha, I don't seek for deals, cause I have another site with such, but I always check new bundles, I knew they are active, to work with RaChart's Enhancer and see if it's worth buying. Back then, when I didn't I was so confused about whether I already have the game I don't. Well, buying all those bundles and having hundreds and even thousands of games can be little confusing xD Also having 400+ games in my wishlist isn't helping. I actually can't remember, which games I have in library, which on wishlist, and which I don't have on wishlist but wanted (sometimes I'm even shocked when I see the game and it's not on my wishlist... maybe it's because I cleaned my wl once...).

Also I'm not social person, so I actually rarely check discussions or so. I use SG with a hope on winning cool games and for giving aways the keys I have from bundles.

I never give away a key to a game, if I don't own it. The only exception was... it as from Monthly, I guess, some Golfing game. I would never play it and it was full value. If it was bundled game, I would probably just activate it on my own, but I didn't need it at all and someone would probably want it more + I would have more benefits from giving it away :D But usually, I activate every game from bundles. I am a bit of a +1 fan xD

The problem here is that I would miss that I could have got the game if I just plainly give it away. It's not just for +1 purpose. If I buy a bundle and I give the game away I feel like I lost it, when I could have have it.

I mean, I want to have pretty big library of games... but it's not my main goal or purpose here.

Oh, so I would rather avoid such groups cause I feel anxious when too many people are interested about me.

I don't care about the achievements. Especially their absurdality today. "Pass level 1", "pass level 2", "win the game" are really stupid. But the worst are like "do some stupid action which is unneeded". I mena, when this action is a joke, easter egg or something, then okay. But when this is another collectibles and stupid quests hunting, I hate it. I was mad by those side quests in Rise of the Tomb Raider. They were plain dumb. If they were just made, I dunno, with some idea, the reason. Okay. But they were like "jump of some cliffs to the water", "be a chicken nanny" etc. I used to 100% games few years ago but RoTR and Darksiders 9especially 2) discouraged me. If what I do is UNFUN, BORING AND I'M WASTING THE TIME, that's not okay. But I did 100% run on Ori for example. Doesn't have 100% achievements, but still... Some of them was actually pretty neat to do.

What is SAM?
Yeah, but addiction is not good thing. People enjoy drinking alcohol too. And that's what destroys them. Not only because it's bad for health. Also because they are obsessed with it.

It's weir that Steam is so unprotected. I mean You can literally hack into Your profile page by using :inspect element" function. And this achievement manager. I heard about it... It's weird it's possible.

I prefer the middle option approx. 2-3 days to get a decent number of entries but at the same too allow giveaways to turn over reasonably quickly. I occasionally do flash giveaways but its more about if you happen to be on at the right time which isn't fair to people around the world so I don't tend to do them often now.

Horses for courses my friend. Do what is I right for you. I mostly enter group or wl giveaways as I am lucky enough to have enough options where I can use my points mainly for them and a select few public ones. With regards to my giveaways, I like to spread the giveaways I make so I do the whole spread.

I usually make public giveaways that last a day or two, and cover all levels.
If I make a group/invite-only/whitelist giveaway, they usually last a week or more.

Typically I like to make giveaways around whatever level I've won recently, to give back, and I usually set the end times for a day off, so I know I'll have time to send them and won't keep the winners waiting too long.

I don't like being one of those people who pats himself on the back for making group/whitelist only giveaways while entering public, or one of those people who make only higher level giveaways while entering every level.

It just seems rude and selfish to me.
Edit: I have to applaud you for all the level 0 giveaways, too. Kudos.

I make 0 level ga's because I want all people to have chance to win. I know, widening the range would make single person having higher chance, but this means many people won't have any chance.

I think I consider making 1-day long giveaways, especially for games worth more than just 10$ for whole bundle of keys :)

Some people say, that people with 0 lvl are bad, because they didn't give anything away. I don't think that way. I mean, would be nice if they give something, but maybe they do - give keys for their family for example. Also not everyone has money to buy gifts for others. I wondered if I should make ga's for 1lvl, but I think I'm okay with ga's for everyone.

I don't think that way.

I agree. Level 0 giveaways are what everyone can enter when they join, and can often encourage people to make giveaways of their own.

I registered on this site without intention of giving anything away. And look at me now. I have given away 250$ of bundled games and 250$ of non bundled ones :> Who would have guessed it? So basically You are right. Also people sometimes need time to become familiar with the page, before they trust or just plain like them. I don't mind if some people have never given anything away. maybe they will in the future. Or maybe not. Who knows?

Similar situation. I registered to enter one giveaway hosted by some group I was in, and after disappearing for a year, started making giveaways myself after I won one.

I started giving aways games when I starter to buy bundles. Humble Bundles and Humble Monthly. The only thing I regret is I never trusted HB before. I was too sceptikal. And there were many of my wishlisted games there. For example when I learned that Ori was in some bundle I was even mad I didn't get it. I think that could have been a trigger to make me check on Humble Bundles... But I'm not quite sure... Firstly I bought some regular bundles from HB, then I started buying Monthly... or rather bought year subsription and there we have a year after that. Now I have another year, bought some months ago. But I hate HB from making some cheap promotions. And by cheap I don't mean the price. Price is okay, but... "only new members", "If You ever bought a HM, You can't get the off". It's not fair. Especially for people who bought in the past for e.g. one month. They are excluded from the offer. And why people, who keep supporting them are treated like a trash? They only target new subsribers. It's really uncool. I mean, it's okay to make the knowledge about Humble Bundle existence spread... but it's not fair for old people, that they can't get any discount at this rate. It's almost like we ar epunished for buying the bundle.

I've always received exactly what I paid for with Humble Bundle, and always at a great price.

If you spend your life looking at what you could have or could have had rather than appreciating what you already have, you're always going to be disappointed.

You started by saying you wished you'd purchased from them earlier, but then went on about what you're missing out on now (the promotions and whatnot) and people being treated like trash. I was addressing the second part.

You seemed to believe it was worth the price a year ago, and then another year. You're still getting what you've paid for.

I just feel like being tricked. It's unfair for me and many people. Not only for those who constantly support their arses, but also for those, who bought bundle once so long ago...

It was worth. But it's still unfair that I'm excluded from discount. it's obvious I want to buy things for the lowest prices ever possible. Especially today, when games cost absurdaly high. To think that new game cost 1/4 of my monthly income, it's just terrible. I pay less for month worth food than they want me to pay for game. But that's globalization issue. Because everyone has the same price, no matter if for other countries such prices are 3-4 times higher.
But if the HB make a discount that is frickin 30$ less, which means 4 times more in my country, it's not fair when I can't get it, because I am too loyal. Back then in the days, when You supported a company, You were rewarder the loner You've been supporting it. Now, You are fooled and punished that You are the one, who support them. That's what I'm talking about.
it was... 132$ for 1 year subsribe vs 90+... it's even more than 30... Don't remember what exactly was the price. But that's GORGEOUS discount. And not being able to get it because I am loyal is the middle finger from Humble Bundle.

If I have to pick between entering a wishlisted game giveaway with 5 minutes left with 200 entries or a giveaway with the same game that has 10 hours left with 200 entries, I'll pick the 5 minute giveaway every time. Guess that means shorter. And if I don't see the giveaway because it's too short and I miss it, then so be it...

I used to be like that too when I started with SG. When I noticed I was way too obsessed by not missing anything I had to work hard on myself to keep from checking. I got a much more healthy attitude to SG now, visiting like once or twice a day. And cleaning out my wishlist helped too, from 850 to 50. I rarely see wishlisted games in giveaways now - guess that helps to cool the addiction too when there isn't an abundance of wishlisted giveaways all the time.

Actually the only reason I do not clean my wishlist is SteamGifts. I prefer to win the games at least I want just a little bit, instead of random. If I see interesting game, I give it to my wl with an intention to "ah, maybe it will appear on SteamGifts someday?" just to win it maybe. Actually I have not enough wishlisted games, cause I see such on SG not too often. It's regularly, though, but not too much. That's why I prefer to keep wishlist full, so I know that I at least want that game a bit and not just click some random game to burn the points down. Also I just use https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?type=wishlist page + ESG, which removes me the games I already entered. I still come here pretty often, but I woulnd't say it's an obsession.

most people prefer short giveaways because they will have less entries, unless they miss it because their bots they weren't online ^^

you should do whatever you want.
high level, low level, no level, long, short duration, bundled games, aaa deluxe $120 collections, everything is ok. 🤷

Haha, yeah :D That's why I prefer short ones too, cause I have higher chance to win.
I will reconsider things when I will have keys for better games now. I think short bundled games and longer higher value games would be the best. Cause bundled games have plenty of giveaways anyway :)

Quick GA are fun because they make it feel rewarding to visit the site every day. Longer term GA are great to spend points on games really interesting to play. They tend to attract tons of people, obviously. A good balance is always best: fun and dynamic. :)

I tend to join GA in the higher range of my contributor level, and group GA. I tend to create GA with the same criteria, most of the time but not always and generally for 1 week. GA above my level and all way up to 10 are a good, very good thing. Some people here are amazingly generous and totally deserve their level 10. It's just feels normal to have freedom in setting the level, a personal choice that should never be questioned. Level 0 GA are fine too, I would even say they are necessary to keep this place vibrant. We were all new here at some point in time!

A good variety is what is making SG so successful in my opinion.

What is missing is a different level system for public GA and group GA. I would like to see a Public CV and Group CV. It's not the same to give to everyone than to a closed circle of people sharing GA.

Ideally, my idea would be to have a specific level for each individual group, in addition to your one Public CV level. Yes, we could be level 4 in a given group and 3 in another one while being Public Level 5 (or 2..).

Edit:
P.S.: I would have a higher Group CV than Public CV, to my disadvantage but it's still the best system I can imagine. ;)

You know, I feel that people who have lvl 10 are just like any others. I mean... If people who have lvl 5 had more money, I bet they would give more game away too. But let's be real. People are here for winning, if they were able to give away 5000$ worth games, they would probably don't need this site, cause they could have afford their wishlisted games on their own.
Actually I am very same. I have 6 lvl cause I give away what I can. But I don't have a money to buy AAA games and I would like to get some of them. But actually most of games I ever won was some bundled/free/random games. However not all of them. I still enjoy winning Crysis 2 as my... second game here? And not only that :) But I still would like to win at least one game from my top10 wishlisted games 😂

About group CV... I don't know. Actually I never made group ga, neither whitelist or invite only. So It won't really concern me... As I probably won't start making such. I just don't have any groups. I am part of one bigger actually, but still it's just random place for me. Invite only... I don't have anyone to invite... and my whitelist is empty :D

Usually I make quick giveaways. That take like an hour or 2. Because most of the give aways I make are gifts so I have to add the winner and hopefully they are still online that hour. That way I can quickly send him/her the gift

Hah, yeah, exactly. When It's just an hour, it's possible, the winner is still at home or available. I feel the same :D However I know, sometimes people are offline within this 1 hour period. But I always send keys.
