Everything's funny in context. AIDS, 9/11, Rape, etc. It only depends who's telling it to whom.

I find it funny for example, that a jerk with a massive ego who tells other people to get cancer, now has cancer himself.

I find it funny that so many people on internet (various chat sites, youtube, twitch, even Steam) wish cancer, death, etc. to other people all the time, but when someone more famous than your average Joe posts a tweet like that and then apologizes multiple times, there's still so much hype about it even years after.

Yes, he must die to satisfy all the internet white knights and their high horses. It does not matter that most people on the internet are quick to anger and have spewed hateful shit at one point or another, if someone well known does it it's time to break out the high horse and the "karma" speeches. Does not matter he apologized multiple times either. The masses demand satisfaction.

He is popular on Internet and as result of that some(a lot due to amplification) of people are asses towards him. He doesn't handle that stuff very well, sometimes he ends up lashing out.

Issues of doing your own PR and reading the feedback, that is not having someone to filter it for you. I don't think his is more of a dick than any one of us, but once in a while the stuff gets to him and he lashes out and because he is followed and not some random guy it's called out and remembered.

He tends to handle stress and negativity very badly, and he used to react to it personally in a very bad manner. He's since stopped looking at comments and such. In short, he used to act like a dick, doesn't act like it quite so much now.

And unfortunately, people can't quite get rid of first impressions, no matter how much the subject in question has improved since they last saw them. So it's a bit of human fallacy too.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

People think he's a dick because he always says what's on his mind, even if that hurts someone else's feelings along the way.

I commend him for not caving in and being a sellout like so many other "celebrities" have in the past.

I've always enjoyed his videos, I'm also a regular watcher of the podcast that he does with Jesse(OMGCata) and Dodger, The Co-optional Podcast, it's hilarious and they usually have some great guests.

The internet always has to have something to hate and TB has never "really" minded being that person. Though recently, over the past year or so, he's made the mistake of letting people know that it does actually get to him a little bit. Which, as we all know, is somewhat like the "Streisand effect", in that it just made people act even more dickish towards him.

I hope all goes well with his treatment and he continues to piss off internet trolls for many, many years to come!

The negative reaction to him goes even before he became as popular as he is now. Back when he focused more on World of Warcraft there were a lot of people that had issues with him. Partly because he acted like an elitist jackass half the time, but he was a low skillcap player at best. He's one of those guys who would whine about Blizzard nerfing content that he wasn't able to clear himself post-nerf. And he became more popular partially because of that endless whining.

I stopped bothering to pay attention to him years ago. Sucks what he's going through though. I don't wish that on anyone. I had a cancer scare too a number of years back. I was "lucky" to have it end up tuberculosis instead.

I had a cancer scare recently as well. The doctor stuck a probe inside my nose and found a lump. When I told him I am quite a heavy smoker he shook his head badly. I felt my legs go soft and my world came crashing down. The 3 weeks of waiting for the biopsy result was like waiting for my death sentence. It's indescribable. You people have no idea what it's like to get a cancer scare at around the same age as Totalbiscuit. Thankfully, for now anyway, the biopsy showed it's just a lymph node or glend. And yes, I have to see a doctor regularly like him because aside from this I have thyroid issues as well.

I always thought cancer or things like that are for old people. They are not.

Glad to hear you're okay. And no, it's not for old people. My mum was diagnosed 2 and a half years ago (Breast cancer) and it didn't feel real for ages. Thankfully she's okay but it was really scary as I was only 13.

It isn't for old people indeed, I'm a medical student and I've seen a surgery of a 17yo boy (at least it was a reconstruction of the digestive tract to remove his colostomy, the tumor had been removed before and the results showed that it hadn't spread so he should be ok).

But what if he just doesn't feel any sort of connection with this man? Does that still make him a shitbag?
I can see why his post sounded a bit harsh and edgy but should this "Pavlov's dog compassion" (don't know how else to call it or maybe there is a better term for it actually) be a thing? Should we all strive to act on our shallow social appearances whenever something like this happens instead of maybe being just genuinely honest and feel how we should feel, not how we're expected to (in this case, at least)

I don't have any agressive feelings reserved for TB and i don't think he deserve any of this (no one does) but at the same time i don't feel any emotional connection with him. Worst thing that can happen if he dies is that i'll just have one video less to click on every week (cause i don't really follow him much). He didn't influence my life in way so far, i don't know him personally but truth to be told it's not going to make a big difference in my life if he lives or dies tomorrow.
Any sort of emotional response to this can only be go to my friends or family and people who are part of my life one way or another. But he's not. Is lack of feelings or lack of emotional response to this really that horrible, so much like we wished him all the worst or something?

So, my question is: if what i'm feeling right now is lack of any sort of emotional connection with him (or this news) and that sort of reaction is 100% honest and genuine by all means, am i a shitbag by your definition as well?

(although the more i look at his post, the more it seemed like he just wanted to sound rebellious and edgy but you know how it is with posts on internet, you can never tell for sure what the author was thinking or what was his true intent)

Well if anything, thank you for your *genuine concern. I might show a bit of empathy here and there but it does not go to that extent that it might pose as a serious problem in my life or influence it in any destructive way.
Of course, you can't do anything at this point except taking my word for it but i'm actually a very compassionate and engaging (if not even LOVING) person outside of internet and in it, especially when it comes to my friends, family and everyone else who mean a lot to me. I just don't time for anyone outside of that circle or it would just drain me emotionally on daily basis.

But nevertheless, what i write here and now should not be taken as a complete representation of who and what i am. It does not define me as a whole and if you try to take something out of it and present it as a fact, you will still go by assumptions so there's that.
You still didn't answer my question though

*i certainly hope it was

EDIT

Also, if that is what you see as an empathy and furthermore - a clear sign of psychopatic tendencies then everyone you ever met and will meet in your life are psychopats. That includes your family, friends, coworkers, schoolmates........they all had this one little thing that they didn't care about much which according to you, makes them eligible to go and see a psychiatrist. Maybe such thing applies to you as well, who knows?

No. Lacking empathy for something so extremely far removed from you is common sense. It's shitty that this happened, but if we felt empathetic to every person on the planet we would be fucking miserable every second of our lives. You gotta draw the line somewhere, especially in situations where your response and actions won't do jack shit.

I don't want anyone to suffer a terrible death, but I can't get myself worked up over someone who I personally find annoying. Do I want him to die? No. But do I care significantly? No. Everyone dies some day, and if everyone mourned for every single person who died, no one would have time for anything else.

Yeah yeah, i know what you mean (except i don't even find him annoying cause that's how little i care for his persona).
I mean, the best course of action in my case whenever one of these topics pop up is not to be involved or give any response if i don't share any sort of connection with it but i just felt like i was being unintentionally called out from Dillon's first post above so it kinda sparked my interest.

I'm only somewhat curious if i'm too a shitbag and terrible human being by all definitions just because i have zero involvement and feel none of the emotional connection with someone who meant and means absolutely nothing to me
