Do you like the Diablo® series?
What? Not NFTWTF??
I am shocked! ;p
Seriously though, I might try it on PC. My phone can run it but I have enough crap on it so I'd rather not install more stuff I will forget about
Thanks for the thread btw, I had already totally forgot about it

Not compatible with my phone, and i wouldn't even have space for it so i'll pass.

I had completely forgotten that I had a battlenet account. And some games. Thanks for the information that allowed me to stumble onto some of my old fun

My phone is crap. It does what I need it to do, which is ring as little and as rarely as possible. Yeah I hate cellphones, which is weird cuz my face is stuck on a screen all day long. Just not a phone. Still I always thought those old Sony Xperia phones were cool looking and if my phone could run it I'd check it out for sure. Only a minor case of Blizzard hate here. That being said, I do regret my last purchase from them, Diablo 3, and I have no plans of buying Diablo 4 or the 2 remake. I always liked the first game the best with its haunting soundtrack in town that was unforgettable.

Maybe I am an idiot, but how did you download it?
I clicked Pre-register now on their website and then nothing happened, how does someone get the game?
Edit, seems someone else said it comes out at 10 AM PDT / 7 PM CEST which is still a few hours away, still wonder how you already installed it.

July 2nd 12:11am here and it's not unlocked still lmao. I don't want to say I stood awake to play this but I kinda did so this is a shame.
Edit: it says on the blog post 10 a.m. PDT which is 2pm here. I'm stupid.

I don't have a smart phone that is good enough to try it, but if I did I wouldn't. From videos I've watched from Gregg2G it seems Blizzard has stepped up Pay 2 Win. Being a Mega Whale isn't good enough, there's a higher level now, Kraken!! lol

Here's two of Gregg2G's videos about how pay 2 win it is.

Asmongold did a react video to it as well.

It's free to play?? Oh no, then I honestly don't expect it to be a good game. Pass.

You can always sell your empty wallet, I guess

If any of the Diablo games ever found their way onto Steam, I'd buy them (I played a LOT of Diablo and Diablo 2 back in the day). I wonder. Would that ever happen now that Microsoft owns Blizzard?

Glad it's coming to PC and that they were convinced into changing their plan to only release on mobile. I do wish it was a $60 game instead of it being free to play because we already know what's coming, and that the free to play experience will probably be crap and the quality it could have been has gone to crap, Of course, their profits from selling 50 packs to users at $2 each means they make $100 that way easier but yes. I'll let you know in a few days how bad it is if you remind me.

Each 50th gem bought with real money have chance to be legendary quality! Too bad highest possible in-game currency will allow us to buy only 45 gems. What a coincidence.
Also all you can get from free drops are level 2 gems. No chance for legendary gems to boost your character if you're dirty non paying customer 🤩
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes. Instead of using looboxes and keys - they use Rifts (maps where you need to kill enemies) and Crests (they charge up Rifts for chance of better gear drop).
Normal Crests can be dropped in small amounts in game, and if you charge Rift with it (use key on lootbox) it will give 10% drop 1/5 or 2/5 level legendary gems. Higher end drops are not possible.
Legendary Crest can only be bought with real money, and when used on Rift (again using key on lootbox) it guarantees one legendary gem of any rarity. So you may get 1/5 or 5/5 (1:2000 chance) legendary gem.
It's like you'd replay map on Diablo and get random junk as a reward in last chest unless you charge map with Crest. Then you have 10% chance to drop better gear and 10% chance to drop legendary gem (1 - 2 level). If you'd want chance for level 3 you need to spend cash.
So it's really convoluted way of giving people end game legendary gems via lootboxes. With few more layers to make it looks like they are obtained through normal gameplay. If you charge Rift 49 times with legendary crests and not get single 5/5 legendary gem - game guarantees 50th roll will give you 5/5

It's exactly as you say. I got to level 35 on the first day and I didn't feel like playing today and probably wont go any higher because it's honestly dog shit not worth anyone's time in the nicest words I can put it but yeah, they basically gave me 1 legendary 2 star gem free, and to get another 2 star I'd have to spend real money, that's for every other socket on every other legendary, some of them have multiple, each one if I'm correct costing $16. That alone is already enough to call pvp p2w in this game and call it dead.
As for the rest of the game, there's like 3 or 4 different menus where you claim daily rewards with xp and so crafting mats for doing tasks andachieving this or that, getting your daily login. Honestly reminded me of what every standard mobile game did. You can get some free mtx just for getting ahead in the story and for logging in before the end of july I think but only on one character not for the whole account. I found the game to be pretty buggy on my pc, it crashed once, the servers were laggy, the download for the game was fast so no complaints there, but I was clicking stuff sometimes and it wouldn't respond. Clicking on certain objects required me to aim off them until the object lit up. It really wasn't difficult at all, like dodging for me at least wasn't a think with a few exceptions. I'd just tank everything, despite being a necromancer. I did find the voice acting awkward kinda like a college project and the animations were ok. The customization and complexity of the game is actually 0. I mean compared to games like path of exile(which I don't want to promote either), or grim dawn, or others, I don't even know if there is customization. They suggest builds which are based off legendary items you have to buy, rather than a skill tree. Exploration is super unrewarding and the path you have to follow is super strict. Like yes some maps let you go left and right not like it matters since there's nothing there maybe a group of mobs you'll want to ignore anyways because they give no xp at level 35 vs doing a level 35 dungeon. At least that was my experience at level 35. I honestly felt like I was playing the pre-alpha build of the first two or 3 starting areas of the game.
I understand that path of exile has been out for much longer, and I understand that this was meant to be a mobile game(which no one asked for hence why they released a pc port, not a proper pc release, this is a port clearly). But in my opinion they should've either just stuck with it and made it mobile only, either done them as separate releases, and look at their competition before just pushing this out. This isn't even like 5% of POE's worth(again take this from someone who doesn't recommend POE). What market were they going here for? Gamblers who just need another place to spend their money? Wow fans desperate to put money into anything else but wow?
I mean this is honestly a disgrace to the diablo name and for blizzard to actually add diablo to this title knowing it's going to be linked with games like Diablo 1 and 2 is pretty disgusting. The project lead who let this project get this bad and the leaders who didn't look at the project as well as the person who thought it was a good idea to make a mobile diablo game against the fans requests for a pc one need to go and lastly they should strip the game of the Diablo in it's title to stop staining that legacy. Just a bunch of new developers who didn't want to put in the work but want to cash in on the name of a masterpiece. Seems to be the trend nowadays as the quality and effort put into making video games in the past 3 years or so from pretty much the biggest companies in game making has honestly went into the grave.

And I saw reports they made 1 mln on the first day.
They expect to make 300 mln by the end of this year. That's more than Witcher 3 made in total.
We can whine all we want but as long as companies are allowed to go for those manipulative practices, exploiting whales to make tens of thousands dollars per person they will not care.

I mean I'm not surprised by those numbers, but it is a little upsetting that just some profit isn't enough for any capitalist, it's all about how can we optimize for all and even more of the profit, not regard for the quality of the product anymore. They'd rather spent $50 million on advertising and $1 million on making the game. At the end of the day it's as you say that we can't change their mind. It's hard to blame Blizzard's Diablo alone, despite them clearly doing what everyone else is doing, reality is capitalism is the problem here.
I've known someone who played Clash Royale on mobile and they won like $1000 in a tournament, so I downloaded it to see what it's all about. It was a terrible game like I expected to be honest, but it turned out it had bigger prize pools than Valve's CSGO tournaments because they make so much money from mtx, even compared to what valve makes from mtx. It had like daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, country specific, tournaments all with money in them. That's just one mobile game. Youtubers/twitchers like pewdiepie, xQc, pokimane you name it, are being paid sums like $150k, $50k, cars, etc. to promote these and sell them to people. Even Epic Games' fortnite was making so much off the ios app store but then they got even greedier and then they decided to add another payment source that would bypass the app store payment and then they lost it all. At the same time, it's no wonder the app store doesn't stop and do any quality control over these games, because for every dollar someone spends, they take $0.30 cents. 30% isn't bad at all(and I think 30 cents is for a successful game, I think it's more like 50% for a crappy game). Its a super toxic environment.

Game is playable for me now (about 40 minutes early).

The problem is that Diablo was a one of a kind game back then with an emphasis on BACK THEN. Nowadays (thanks to Diablos success) there are plenty of fantastic hack and slays out there that aren't f2p, mobile ports which include microtransactions. I for one see absolutley no reason to play this over other titles but unfortunately it will most likely be very profitable and push other franchises into the very same direction :/

Torchlight 3 already got ruined by this same stupid mobile concept. At least we still have Grim Dawn.

I'll see how the gameplay is through a playthrough, it's sure that you can buy stuff to progress faster.
There are two different kinds of premium(ish?) currency, and it's already hard to keep up with the different unlocks, rewards, inventives and such. As mobile games usually do, they went all-in on the dopamine-bomb feel.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah. I played just a bit and it seems great. But that's the trick with predatory games: they start out fine and get more and more egregious as you progress. It's actually a little scary to keep playing, to be honest.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah same. But the systems to keep you "engaged" are slowly opening up and there's already plenty of them, such as multiple daily rewards, daily tasks (more like chores), daily login bonuses, rift rewards locked behind using special premium items, and so on. But, with that said, I did have fun playing it. That's the thing, isn't it? The game is actually good and they control our brain and there's nothing we can do about it. I feel kinda sick having fun with these type of games, like it doesn't feel right. Maybe I could compare it to junk food. It feels dirty.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I feel the same. Way too many rewards at way too many places, quick levelups, all the jazz to look cool. It'a not a "bad game", but feel a lot more enjoyable, than good. It's fine in an average/mediocre way, but built to be literally addictive.
I try to play as far as I can in the story, but not further.

I'm having fun blasting demon hordes but yea, those familiar mechanisms to keep people coming back are in full force. The little reward unlocks for doing various simple things, daily rewards, etc. don't offer a "good quality" engagement for me like a superb story would, for example.

Dungeon Keeper Mobile vibes here. Anyway, I'll happily play the original Diablo on GOG or install 2 it from CDs when I get the itch. Being old has its advantages ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
TBH I really doubt that. Dungeon Keeper was such an outliner - it wasn't even pay to win, it was pay (constantly) to play with the hour++ waiting to get a single block dug out. It was a parasite that killed the host.
This game feels manufactured to be as engaging as possible, and giving a loooooot of reasons and options to spend money. It's not impossible that there is a sudden paywall at some point, but as it really tries to deliver a proper story, they have to wait with it at least until the campaign's end.
But I really expect incredible grind and/or paying in some way to keep up with extra events, toplists, PvP, etc. The game really gives you a reward for almost anything, but incentives completing it (events), getting good at it (PvP, combat - items etc.) or just sticking to it (daily rewards)

Never crossed in my mind to play games on smartphone, the reason is the palm of my hand always sweating easily, so it's very uncomfortable to try..

The latest installation in the Diablo® series is dropped today from the fan-favourite moment "DON'TCHU GUYS HAVE PHONES???"
Official Website
What are your thoughts? Are you going to try it out?
Preload installation size: 2.61Gb + 10ish gigs in the app (Android) / 26.8Gb (PC)
A game for your troubles..
Edit:
My initial thoughts is that it's quite similar to Diablo 3, which (blasphemy aside) was a game that I enjoyed quite a lot, especially playing it on the Nintendo Switch. The areas are nice, there's variety of mobs and bosses, the story is okay-ish, the drop rates are weird but so far, I'm level 30 (I believe) and I'm having a blast.
There is of course the huge topic of Pay2Win, aside from cosmetics (which are fine in my opinion), there's the possibility of buying Legendary Gems with atrocious rarity %, basically the level 5 gem is almost impossible to get, unless you buy 50 of them, then you will get it 100% (aka PITY DROP). I haven't really gotten myself that much into Diablo to say that gems are so crucial in PvE and I haven't played PvP.
To recap, as a PvE experience, I like it so far and I don't mind the cosmetic aspect and the battle pass system. The Legendary gems are a different topic, but so far (level 30) I haven't had any issues.
