I was sitting at 456 games wishlisted before starting to clean them. I've started wishlisting and purchasing games in Steam around 4-5 years ago, if you wonder how that list got so big! What lead me to do this was, seeing unfamiliar titles when checking giveaways for wishlisted games, some things I noticed were:

  • There were a lot of games I wouldn't make time to play if I won them.
  • Looking at most of the games, I realized that I would need a fortune to clean this list, and more time to play them all!
  • There were a lot of Nuclear Throne copies, which made me think, would I delete them if I won the original Nuclear Throne?
  • Some games I didn't even remember when I added them, it felt like it was the first time seeing the title/splashes.
  • Some games, I couldn't figure why I added them. Shortly after I realized it might be for emoticons/backgrounds, I used to collect them back then.
  • Some games I added way back in 2014-2015, were still in Early Access! What a surprise that is!
  • Some games actually went from being paid to free?! Why wasn't I made aware of this?! (Looking at you H1Z1, though you no longer interest me)
  • Some games I really wanted back then were pricey and in early release, seems they released! (Looking at you, Sunless Sea and RimWorld)
  • There was this! (Check image)

Wow, that took some time! And the final count is, 271 wishlist items! Those are still games I would play, I suppose. If you similarly have a long list of wishlist items, do give this a try yourself!

Update: Sad choo-choo.

20 is the limit.
Only the games that I could buy even without big discounts.

I try to keep mine at around 50 or fewer, but that's becoming quite difficult as almost half of my wishlist consists of upcoming games, so I don't know if they end up being good, nor can I buy them.

So to answer your question: I try to maintain it all the time, adding/removing games that I've gained/lost interest in based on my current "taste" for games.

Yeah, I do clean it from time to time by removing a game or two but I would like to do a bigger purge. I'm at 155 right now, I'd like to get it below a hundred or less. As others have said, many are games that I wouldn't play right now but want to keep an eye on or whatnot. It would be cool if you could have multiple lists for different purposes.

My wishlist is currently sitting at around 50 games and even that sometimes feels like too many. I only add games I'm interested in playing to it and even then there are a selected few games I'm interested in but still don't add to list. I regularly comb through my wishlist and remove titles I've lost interest in, so I'm fairly good at keeping the list in check.

I have less than 20 titles on it, so ... nope I never thought about cleaning it.

I just passed 200 titles on my Steam wishlist, but I've never "cleaned it" and don't have a reason to do so. The only way something gets removed from it is when I acquire the wishlisted game

I'm at 157 now (including 7 F2P and 37 not realeased yet), and I think that's ok. That's basically every game on Steam I'm aware of, more or less interested in and would consider buying. I remove stuff from time to time, of course, but only if a game starts to recieve well-argued poor reviews (or sometimes when it becomes clear that a game will never be actually released).

I clean up my wishlist regularly, I'm a minimalist type of person. I even delete games I really hate from my library.

I do have over 200 items WL'd but most are DLCs that I want to eventually own for completionist sake haha. I do check now and then if I lost interest though.

I go through my wishlist every 2-3 months.
For each title I ask myself "If a decent sale appeared, would I actually care enough to buy it?"

If the answer is no, then most of the time I remove the game from the wishlist.

Only exception is upcoming games, early access etc. Which I tend to keep around unless I lose interest in the project completely.

Hey :)
Few weeks ago I thought, I should re-check what games I added to wishlist... and I only removed up to 12 titles.
I was surprised. I rarely add anything to list. I added them few years ago, and well, it's mostly for giveaway, since I do not buy games, I do not have enough time to play them all :o
So I do not intend to check the list any time soon.
I am pretty sure that I am interested in most of these titles (some were crap, I won few and could check them actually on my own skin).
Cheers.

I like indie games and do monitor bundles, so my wishlist grows very fast 😹 Almost as fast as hidden list ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's black and white tactics 😹
I want to cleanup it someday, but it's hard to venture.

My wishlist just went beyond 500 titles. 😥

Although I remove 40-50 titles before every Steam sale, it magically grows a few weeks later. The problem with my wishlist is that i keep adding games for me and others eg. kid's games for my nephew and niece, HOGs for my girlfriend, cheevo spam games. I'm also bookmarking games to check later, which naturally never happens.

I wish Valve offered custom-made lists along with the main wishlist, something like the playlist system youtube has. It would be easier to track low priority games, also easier to trash them entirely when they served their purpose.

Stupidity is a vague term, it's quite relative to one's perspective.

I'd say stupid are people who judge other people by the amount of money they can afford to pay, so as to transform their wishlist games into library games, while not offering to pay a single penny for this to happen.

There's a term in Greece for those people, we call them "Τζάμπα Μάγκες". i'm sure one of your greek friends can translate. 😉
