Since we are (sort of) getting a new Wing Commander - how about a new X-wing?
It would have a series of branching pass/fail solo missions - campaigns. As well as a mission builder and you could upload these and share em..
Also an online/LAN vrs and co-op multiplayer mode.
You would fly with a squadron whose stats you could also improve (or upgrade ships) as missions continued.
ships included on the rebel side would include X-wing, y-wing and A wing. (wait for it and read more)
Missions would include space battles, scouting and even escort (with reasonable AI)
As well as:
Ground strikes, scouting and bombing missions on a planetary level.
(possibly combined with the space combats)
DLC would include ability to fly B-Wings with their own campaign.

• More DLC for "uglies"
  You may have to buy a separate game for the TIE side of things (to keep the game marketable)
  with DLC of the Avenger and Assault shuttle.
