So after listening to it for the 1000th time I have to admit I'm hooked in Hotline Miami's Soundtrack! Talking to a friend of mine the other day he said that Hotline Miami's soundtrack is what the 80s should have been... They had the samples, they had the synthesizers so they had everything they needed to make awesome music. I mean, I love a lot of bands from the 80s but that general "80s" sound is a bit lame (if you think I'm wrong please do explain with examples as I love to learn about music).*

Anyway, back to topic... From HLM to Alan Wake, from Diablo (1) to Red Dead Redemption, from Chrono Trigger to Portal 2 there is a ton of great music in games! So which soundtracks do you like the most? And why? If you could spare some links it would be great! ^_^

Cheers!

*Don't give me Rock examples as I am quite aware of those. I was talking about electronic music such as what we have in HLM'sOST.

The Settlers 3, Seven Kingdoms 1 & 2, Motorhead, Saga: Rage of the Vikings, International Rally Championship, Heroes of Might & Magic 1, Wacki - I don't play them anymore but still like to put CD to a player and listen their awesome soundtracks.
Also The Neverhood, Earth 2150 series, whole GTA series and a bit younger Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Last years: Cities In Motion, Bastion, To The Moon and definitely the best soundtrack of 2012 - Borderlands 2.

I like Alan Wake too, but i don't listen to it that much cuz the mood thing. You know the theme right?
My favorite one is

TESV Skyrim: Far Horizons, the one in The Greatest Video Game Music 2.

I like the way they rearrange the score and orchestrate it.

I also like:

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Trine 2
  • Quantum Conundrum
  • Halo Series (not counting Halo 4)
  • Gears of War 3
  • Crysis 2

  • Bastion (The perfect example on how a well placed track can add so much to a story)
  • To the Moon
  • Borderlands 2 (It has a Sucker Punch feel to it)

Those aren't really electronic, but Sequence had some awesome music in it, which may be a little more what you're looking for. Ronald Jenkees did a large chunk of the music in the game. One of my favorites here.

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm OST (it's the only thing that is really good in single-player campaign of this game).

Also Need For Speed: Underground 1-2, Most Wanted (2005),
TES3: Morrowind, TES5: Skyrim,
Hitman: Contracts,
Little Inferno,
FlatOut,
Diablo.
