Getting a TV. What are good TV brands?

Sony. Used to say Samsung, but have had too many failures across several products.

Lol, does Sanyo even still exist? And I've never even heard of the other "brands" you mentioned. My advice is to screw that no name crap and get a real TV by Samsung or LG. A good TV will last you many years after all and outlive your PC/consoles, so it's arguably more of an investment than any other hardware purchase you may make.

Do you want a TV as a glorified monitor? Buy an LCD.

Do you want a TV to watch actual TV and movies? Buy a plasma.

Sanyo is pretty common, Coby too... Coby OEM's for more known companies such as Samsung. So if you have a Samsung for example, It could be made by Coby. Between those three brands, I would list them in the following order of preference:

1. Coby
2. Sanyo
3. Sceptre

If you have specific models in mind, link em. ;)
One additional feature when shopping for tvs I would look at is assortment of input options (dvi, hdmi, component etc) and maybe also brightness of the LCD lamp (assuming we are talking LCD). Working for DirecTV I encountered all these brands and none of the three I would advise against. Most problems I would encounter came from in-store brands (such as Durabrand by Walmart) and even then it would mostly be remote related compatibility issues (often corrected by trying autoscan).
