Yeah, I can imagine how unusual texture/flavour might not suit everyone. I was glad to discover it, as we don't have it in the UK :D

Basically its dough is very similar to polish donut's dough but it's steamed like in the picture below :) The topping can be anything of your liking, usually we add sauce made of mixed starwberries with some sugar and some cream :)

There are more English results if you add - "cloth-steamed", "patch", or "steamed", and "dumplings"
Some of the results might be slightly different foods, but should help

(Edit: With all seriousness though, this is my favourite. A simple, usually summertime dish, and it is vegetarian-friendly to boot as it is only made out of the four mandatory vegetables: http://www.food.com/recipe/hungarian-lecso-pepper-sausage-and-tomato-stew-448117)

I could have used another example that confuses the ever-living hell out of even most people in the neighbouring countries, but it is actually a Russian thing and with the number of users from there, it wouldn't be as surprising. ^_^

Most Germans cannot take it first. You can flip out almost any Frenchman or Dutch with the sheer concept alone. Some Americans can take and love it, some's taste buds just give up instantly. Norsemen cannot comprehend it (although Swedes can develop a taste for it quickly… then again, they love to put cinnamon in everything, so they are as weird as us in some regard :D). It can be super funny.

You forgot yakiniku! In my humble opinion yakiniku is one of the absolutely best dish in the world! At least 'til my friend said that the meat I thought tasted the best was cow tongue, but still!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know that yakiniku is a great dish, yakiniku literally means "grilled meat" (or BBQ) and it's original from Western country ( recipe get into Japan in the 19 century) not from Japan , so I'm not considered it as Japanese original food :D

Comment has been collapsed.

Everyone pronounces it different based on the region of Canada they live in. I'm accustom to pronouncing it in one of the French Canadian ways which would be "pou-tsin". However I do sometimes say Putin just for kicks. That being said, it's delicious, especially when you use a light brown gravy and mozzarella cheese curds. However it still works with shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheeses and various types of brown gravy or St.Huberts Poutine Gravy.

Here's a pronounciation video, the first being how HS2 pronounces it, the second being how I pronounce it.

So I recommend EMPANADAS!!!

Permalink

Have you've ever had Kroppkakor? (No need to put butterflies on them...). It's a simple, but relatively time consuming dish to make, but they taste really good. You don't have to use bacon, in fact traditionally you just use salted pork. It might not be the "best" thing Sweden has to offer, but it's good, and it's realistic to make at home.

Hey, very interesting thread. Since i'm half spanish and half swiss, i'll post food from my two countries ;P

So, as Swiss main dish, Rösti, a very simple but delicious potato recipe.

As a Swiss dessert, chocolate fondue ;)

Spanish main dish, seafood paella, how not? ^^

And, as a spanish dessert, a very typical one from my island, called Ensaïmada.

Damn, this made me hungry now! hahah
BTW, i'm curious to know which country are you from, Rayzen! :)

Haha, what a coincidence! Honestly, Rösty is one of my favourite meals. In my famiy we use to eat it with meat and sauce, but the truth is that i love to eat it even without anything else.
Sounds weird to eat it with something sweet such as apple pure, but i will give it a try, too ;P
