If he's into RPG's, Ys Origin and Ys: Oath can be run on a potato. Also:

Super Hexagon
To the Moon
Dustforce
Monaco
Gunpoint

Anyways, those are game that I enjoyed that I'm pretty sure most computers can run.

Hmmmm... I have APU-C50 1.00 Ghz, Radeon HD 6250M and 2 GB RAM (1.6 Usable) and I can run Skyrim quite well. You may try with Super Meat Boy, Terraria and Starbound :)

Starbound is not very optimized, so I'm not positive it would run with his GF 5700 FX, same goes for Super Meat Boy.

I would recommend checking out Halo 1, it's from 2001 and still has decent quality, great gameplay and if i rememmber correctly co-op :D It has loads of custom servers and is really easy for a computer to run.

Just a suggestion, it would also help your friend if he had more RAM in his computer. Might want to sneak in and see how much RAM his motherboard can handle. I assume that it's a bought PC, and not one that he put together himself, but that he has only upgraded the GPU on his own.

I know that on my main system (which my husband is always hogging, so I'm usually on my laptop :P), I have 16gb of RAM (which is way more than I will need for several more years) and the board can handle up to 32gb (Gigabyte z77x-ud3h rev 1.1).

I only started out with 8gb and then upgraded to 16gb when the 4gb sticks of RAM got cheaper. In order to go up to 32gb, I'll have to buy 4 sticks of 8gb, which was a little more expensive at the time, though I can imagine that it has went down since I last bought RAM a couple of years ago.

So what my hyper butt is trying to say is to buy your friend some more RAM, it'll help out a lot! :P

My system specs for reference:

  • i5-2500k processor
  • Gigabyte Z77x-ud3h mobo (I will only buy Gigabyte motherboards)
  • 16gb ram (2 sticks of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600, 2 sticks of Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600)
  • OCZ Vertex 128gb ssd
  • OCZ Vertex 60gb ssd
  • 500gb Western Digital My Passport external
  • 2TB Western Digital MyBook external for important backups
  • Corsair H60 watercooler
  • CM Storm full sized case
  • Thermaltake 600 watt power supply
  • Gigabyte Nvidia 650ti graphics card with 2gb of ram
