Why not use Captchas against the bots? It would be a bit more tedious for the users but it means no more bots, right?

No thanks, i hate it already to be forced to do this captcha crap as good as on every site.
let me at least here alone with it. especially since that crap doesnt works even right and you often have to mark signs insted of cars when it asks for cars, and car when it ask for signs. recaptcha is the biggest crap every thought off.
i dont want to do it once, nor once per week nor anytime.

I'm for easy* captchas (not street signs) in the following conditions:

  • For users who already entered 20 giveaways in the same day, and before every 5 more giveaways (in other words, for GAs #20, #25, #30 etc. of the day). Those who enter 19 giveaways or less in a day will never see captchas. These numbers are of course semi-arbitrary, and are just to illustrate the idea.
  • For any 1 hour public GA. At least on this one most seem to agree
  • Whenever the GA creator decided to include a captcha. Unlike 1 hour public GAs, where I think captchas should be mandatory, for other GAs they should be disabled by default.

* Easy captchas are also easier to bypass, but if the reward is just a chance for to enter a giveaway I don't think any script writer would bother.

There are paid services that crack many types of captchas, but paying for the right to enter a giveaway isn't cost effective. Which is why for this site, I believe it'll be the opposite of what you say. Captchas will block scripts, and allow humans. Done right, most humans will not even see captchas and will have no reason to complain.

I like the idea.
But a chore for people like me, not trusted by google's ReCaptcha (almost of the time I'm asked to do the captcha).

What about a more simple captcha, something to limit bots not eliminate them?
Something like this what's on DLH.net. (NVM, all of them are using the same scripts, so they only need 1 to figure it out)
