Have you experienced this?
I've decided to avoid basically any and all pre-release advertising and whatnot.

I think Shadowrun Returns was the last on that I was excited for., now I wait for gameplay videos and then a sale to actually pick it up and play it. Now that I'm thinking about it, the last one that I think delivered what it promised was F.E.A.R. (The first one), Lots of slow-mo action and fights that could go so many ways, plus a little bit of horror. That's a good game, I think I'll play it again.

Parasite Eve, the very first game that taught me not to simply go by what the trailer shows me. Looking back on it even the trailer looks kind of meh now, but at the time it was absolutely fantastic and mesmerizing. Then I got the game itself and realized that everything from that trailer had been cutscenes, no gameplay shown at all, and I was a big ol' dupe for not noticing. Furthermore, it was basically a Resident Evil clone with some RPG elements slapped on top of it. I personally wasn't too fond of the RE series, and I felt that the RPG stuff was very clunky. I eventually divested myself of the game without actually beating it and swore I wouldn't be taken in by mere advertising again, a promise to myself that I think I've kept pretty well since then.

You see an awesome trailer for a game, you see this breath-taking, amazing concept or cover art. You get Pong and wonder what the heck just happened.
Not that Pong is a bad game, but really? This exact situation hasn't happened to me but the basic feeling is the same. So many games put so much work into making amazing trailers/cut-scenes/art work and then the game is nothing like it at all. It frustrates me when I'd rather look at a still image or watch a 1 minutes video rather then play the game itself.
Again, this isn't to say the game is bad, many are quite fun, the misleading part is just frustrating and off-putting.
If you answer yes to the poll, what was the game?
