So you can't invest in those games you want because you have too many points?

Wow, great response. I can't believe the ignorance of people here. I post something to start a discussion and it's basically personal attacks. It's been awhile since I've met such a flagrantly shitty representation from a community. The idea is solid and would result in a greater chance to win things you really want, while reducing the amount of fluff you enter. I'm bringing this up because there are more bundles than ever and there will continue to be producing are larger and large pool of points. It's a good change, if you have the understanding of the system to see it for what it is.
If you really just want to win free shit and you don't care what that shit is, by all means, continue to defend the status quo. Most of you simply have no clue and the attitude reflected in these atrocious comments confirms it.

You are assuming people are entering just to enter. While that might be true for some, there are many here who enter for games they actually want.
I for one enter for only games I actually want.
And the reason why for many of the certain posts here is because we have seen posts like your before, many times, with the same argument that you just want less people in giveaways you want to enter.
You could have just searched and seen the response to it and seen that people will not respond well to posts like yours.

I'd argue that those who are here for a handful of games (and spend, say, 20 points per day on average) deserve to have higher chances on winning that handful games than those who spend points on just about any game they don't own. The way to do this the easy way is to give less points to everybody.
I realize I bump an old (in Internet time) and hated thread, but bringing the matter up is the way to have more (thought-out) arguments that matter.
Don't read the suggestion as "give me better chances at winning all the games", but as "make the site about giving gifts into one where people enjoy the gifts they receive".
Now, you might think that reducing point gain supports casual gamers as opposed to hardcore gamers who feel the need to play many games. I counter that with that if you're a hardcore gamer, you should be able to afford your hobby anyway. I think many hardcore gamers have been sucked, for wanting to be good at a game, into a specific game (such as CS or Dota), that is cheap and sufficient for their gaming lust. There's no great need to fill your excess time with games you don't like as much. A hardcore gamer may enjoy also watching other people play games. Casual gamers deserve to get more into the hobby they are somewhat interested in, but as casuals may not want to dish out money for it. Free games they truly would enjoy are a gateway drug.
I admit more points allows more gamers to participate in winning certain games and games of genres they don't really know if they like and thus don't want to pay for. Unsure people might pirate the game if there were no chance of winning the game. Pirating with self-restraint wouldn't be of bad morale in this type of new genre experimenting, so you might as well pirate one game and then buy the sequels or the stars of the genre.
A site such as this should be against building a backlog, for the good of humanity.

You'd see less entries in the cheap bundle stuff but people would still spend just as many points as they do now on the bigger games. The only places you'd get better odds is on what you call shit anyway. I enter for want I really want and that's it. No fluff.
It's not a change that will bring anything positive, if you have the understanding of the system and see it for what it is.

That was exactly what I was thinking. I really only ever enter private and group giveaways so it really wouldn't affect me at all.

CG pointed a gun to your head and forced you to use those points? You do realize you don't have to use anything right?

I see what you are trying to do but it seems like an unecessary change that wouldn't actually have that much of an effect.

I'd actually like to see point maximum tied to CV at the rate of 1 point for every 10 cents of CV, minimum of 100.
In other words, up until $10 CV, you notice no change. As you go over that, your maximum points start increasing. Those who only give away bundle games end up where they are now anyway ($30 would equal 300 points), and for those who've given away massive amounts of CV, they get massive points.
So the number of entries per giveaway would go down, but those who have given a lot to this site get more of a reward than just being able to enter higher tier giveaways.

I feel like a lot of people would be against that because it would give people a greedy reason to give gifts.

Massive amounts of CV usually also mean massive amount of games already won. Plus their libraries are typically also quite huge, so some of them would even enter more giveaways to "snag" from people (Personally, I don't like it when a so called "collector" with 1000+ games wins anyway. 99% of the time, the game goes unplayed). I do kinda see it like the ot, people often just want free stuff. And this system would even enforce that practice.

Does anyone else think the # of points awarded should be lowered again? I'd rather be given fewer points and invest those in games I really want then the current system where I have more points than I know what to do with. If I wanted I could throw my points into random giveaways for games I'm mildly interested in and have a chance of winning over someone who really wants the game. Less points = more chances of winning what you really want.
Edit: It's been awhile since I've seen such blatantly ignorant negativity. If you don't have something constructive to say, leave. This plan would result in a better chance to win things YOU ACTUALLY WANT. If you're only interested in winning something for free and you don't care what it is, then go ahead and blindly insult me like the rest. You're only hurting yourself.
