A good bundle in indiegala? Hell Yeah!
looking forward to happy hour! GB (:
I've already got them all.
I don't see any games that interest me, I pass.
Potato Potato Potato

I hate to be the guy but after quite some googling and reading here and elsewhere I'm still not sure how that cryptic

Check our gift packs
None
x2 paying more than: $7.82
x3 paying more than: $11.13
x4 paying more than: $14.04
x5 paying more than: $16.96

is supposed to be understood correctly. Sorry. Also, the FAQ say something like 1 tier bundles (or most of them) don't have happy hours.
So here's the deal, usually I avoid indiegala due to bad experiences with them in the past but I can't pass the current bundle. I only need one for myself. But then there's that "gift packs" thing and I come to think, 'well, why not take the chance to take more if it's free' for some GAs.
But I'm just lost on how this should work.
Does the "x2" mean that if I pay $7.82 for one bundle that I will get 2 bundles instead and effectively save 16 Cents (opposed to 2 x minimum price)? But if I pay $11.13 and therefore twice the $3.99 I then had bought 2 bundles but would get three times as many therefore 6 bundles?

On the other hand it also says

Check this if you already bought the bundle before with the same email address or if you're buying the bundle during Happy Hour and want Free extra gifts!

But I haven't bought it before and there is no happy hour (at least not now). So therefore that whole "check our gift packs" doesn't apply in the first place? And even if I now buy one and happen to not miss (which is fairly unlikely) a future happy hour I then will have to spent another $3.83 (= $7.82 - $3.99) to get one free copy since 1 "x2" = 2?

Please someone take the time out of your life to enlighten me once and for all in these regards... I'm lost.

You need to pay more than the listed price, so I usually do 1 cent more. like 7.82 for x2. and yes, you do get the # of gift packs mentioned. However, x3 just means 3 gift packs, not 3x2. x4 meanx 4, etc. Remember, you need to buy it as gift pack to get the multiple copies.

It's Happy Hour when it gets weird. you get double the gift packs... so x2 gets you 4, x3 gets you 6, x4 gets you 8, etc. BUT IG also has another thing going, if you buy at least ONE bundle before Happy Hour, using the same email, when you buy it again as gift during Happy Hour, it's like...triple or even quadruple the gift packs. Go x2 gets you 6 or 8, x3 gets you 9 or 12, x4 gets you 12 or 16, etc.

It gets hella confusing, but also hella cheap.

Supposedly this is a one tier one week bundle, so it won't have Happy Hour, though.

P.S. And oh, the gift pack prices changes during Happy Hour too usually, it usually goes higher. Not by much, but still higher. For example x2 definitely won't be 7.82, maybe near 9 (or over 9), but remember that it doubles (or triples if you purchased once before) during that time to x2 will be x4 or x6/x8 for you, so even at the higher price it's usually worth it.

P.P.S. For safest option, not knowing for sure if there'll be Happy Hour or not, buy one bundle for yourself now. If there's Happy Hour you can get the triple/quadruple gift packs. If no Happy Hour.... well, buy regular gift packs near the end of the bundle? :O

Holy shit you just sent me into shock. I just knew (from your post) that this is one week bundle. Thanks, gonna buy it myself --not worth it risking no HH.

tbh I don't know how long this bundle will be, not at least until first day is over and we get time remaining after special price/sale. That's why I said "supposedly" : I've heard quite a few people mentioning this is a one week one tier bundle and I'm not sure myself.

I for one am gonna get it tonight, 4 bucks is fine with me for that list of games. If you have a groupbuy it might be cheaper in group even without HH, so go for it... or wait to see if there's a HH and buy last day if no HH, lol.

Thanks for your extensive explanation. I feel like I mostly understood now how things are going. I actually went ahead and bought the bundle for me on that evening since there are a few games that I wanted to have anyways.
So, just to see if I got it right. Say there'll be a happy hour and the x2 price will be 'more than $9' (and the x2 will be x4)... in that case I just have to buy another bundle as a gift for at least $5.02 (since I payed $3.99 the first time). Therefore I'd be ending up with having payed $9.01 and in total I will have 8 bundles (2 I payed for plus 4 or possibly even up to 8 as extra gifts since I bought first time before happy hour during the first day of the bundle). Right?
The question now is: If there is a happy hour, how will I know? Do I have to check at least once every hour for as long as the bundle is up to not miss it or will the happy hour go for like half a day so chances to miss it aren't too big (as long as I check the bundle page at least a couple of times per day)?

In your last comment you've mentioned a group buy? How's that working and where does Indiegala offer group buys?

But yeah, no matter if there is a happy hour or not and even if I (most likely) miss it, I got a few games I had on my wishlist for a nice price so I can't complain :-)

Almost right. When you buy gift packs, it's at full cost of the gift pack, it's not an addon/topup. Each purchase is separate, but IG do keep note if you buy early. During Happy Hour, if and when it happens you can buy the gift pack and get extra copies. 1 extra copy per gift normally, or 2-3 extra if you already purchased once earlier before Happy Hour.

To summarize:

Happy hour happens, default 1 free copy per gift, or 2-3 if you had bought a copy earlier.

You had not bought a copy earlier -> You buy x2 gift pack, you get 2 extra copies, ending up with 4 total copies at the gift pack price of 2 copies. If you buy x5 gift pack, you end up with 10 total copies at the gift pack price of 5 copies.

You had bought a copy and there's early purchaser bonuses -> You buy x2 gift pack, you get 4-6 extra copies, ending up with 6-8 total copies at the gift pack price of 2 copies. If you buy a x5 gift pack, you'll end up with 15-20 total copies at the gift pack price of 5 copies.

Your earlier purchase does not count to the gift pack prize, it's a separate purchase and only acts as a marker (via same email used) to see if you get extra extra copies during Happy Hour.

Happy Hour is kinda random and usually lasts for more than an hour. You might or might not get an email for it. Check this thread often as ppl will usually share/post when Happy Hour is live.

As for groupbuys, there's a Steam group for that where people host a purchase of say 20 copies during Happy Hour and pass others copy (or copies) to others as requested in exchange for Paypal payment. It's basically cheaper than buying solo a copy for yourself so that's why people participate in groupbuys. IG bundles can get real cheap during Happy Hour due to the many extra copies, like the 5 + (5x3 bonus) = 20 copies per 5 gift pack purchase.

Oh, so I'd actually would end up having paid $3.99 + $9, so $12.99, for 3 bundles and I would get 4-6 for free if I had bought before opposed to only paying $9 but only getting 2 +2? Hm... while it is cheap indeed for the amount of bundles I would get I wouldn't consider $13 as cheap anymore. Well, sure, that depends on each person's budget. Too bad they don't do topups for at least the x2 gift pack.

And for these groupbuys someone would buy the x5 bundle, having payed $3.99 + e.g. $20 in total for 1 +5 bundles and would get additional e.g. 20 gift pack bundles. And if that person would want to keep 5 bundles for himself he then would have had an offer for the 21 remaining bundles for $1.15 each (since that would in total cover all costs - considering he doesn't want to make any profit).
But these group buys aren't with any guaranties, like, since the person could miss the happy hour or maybe there is no happy hour. So you just get into the group buy with the chance to buy a bundle for cheap. Ok... now I only wonder why people say it's hard to get into a group buy if anyone can do it. They could just offer to make one themselves - I'm sure there'd be enough people willing to buy the bundles that you don't want for yourself.

Again, thanks for the additional info!

As for bonus gifts during happy hour:
There's currently happy hour for the Artifex Mundi bundle and things have not changed from what they originally said... it's still

x2 paying more than: $9.78
x3 paying more than: $13.92
x4 paying more than: $17.56
x5 paying more than: $21.21

Is this a rare case where you get the same amount of gifts during happy hour as you normally would or why doesn't it say x4 instead of x2?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It won't be mentioned there, just in the Happy Hour logo/banners/whatever all around the bundle page about the extra copies you'll get. You'll still be buying the x2, x3, x4, x5, you'll get the Happy Hour bonuses on the side when it's on.

Happy Hour is now over and this is the price now:
x2 paying more than: $7.82
x3 paying more than: $11.13
x4 paying more than: $14.04
x5 paying more than: $16.96

You can use that as an example of why I said the prices will be higher during Happy Hour. x2 is 9.78 during HH because at that time, you get x2 +2 (or +4 or +6)

Not sure if the 66% Beholder coupon is worth it... It's priced at $9.99 in the IG Store, using the coupon would make it $3.40. Right now the BTA for the Humble Staff Picks Bundle: Scribble! is $5.96 and you'd get Tempest, LiEat (bundle debut), Punch Club, Aragami (bundle debut), Beholder and BioShock Infinite. For an extra $2.56 I think the HB offer is better, wether you might want to use all the games yourself, or make giveaways with the rest of the games, or do a bundle split (in which case you might end with an even better price for Beholder -it's still available in some bundle splits for $1.00-$1.30).

EDIT: Someone might think that the advantage of the coupon is that it will expire on January 29th while the Humble Staff Picks Bundle: Scribble! will end next Tuesday (January, 16th) but buying the Humble bundle right now for $1.00 would lock the BTA price and you could increase the payment for one week after the bundle ends (until January, 23th).

What is the advantage of buying in the HH?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Explained here.

Basically, it will be only useful if you're doing a group buy, or if you plan on making a few giveaways here (or if you have a lot of friends or family you want to gift games to).

If you purchased the HIGH TIER bundle during Happy Hour of the 1st week you'll be able to purchase 1 gift and receive 1 + 3 gifts.
If you purchased the HIGH TIER
bundle during Happy Hour but after the 1st week of sale, you will receive 1 + 2 HIGH TIER gifts.
If you haven’t purchased the HIGH TIER
bundle yet, you will receive 1 + 1 HIGH TIER* gifts.

Let's say I purchase this bundle when it's released for $3.99 (before price increases). If I buy it again during the Happy Hour (it will be a bit more expensive than the current $4.99 price, though), I'll receive four copies of the bundle as "gifts" (you can send them as links to whoever you want, or gift the individual games in each bundle copy). There are also "gift packs", the more you buy, the less it costs you.

Let's say this bundle costs $5.61 during Happy Hour (took the example from the current Friday bundle) and you have these gift packs available:

x2 paying more than: $11.00
x3 paying more than: $15.65
x4 paying more than: $19.75
x5 paying more than: $23.84

If you buy a x5 gift pack during HH ($23.84) you'll receive 20 copies of the bundle, so each copy will end costing ($3.99+$23.84)/21 = $1.32, instead of the regular $4.99 price. That's why I mentioned the group buys above.

If you think of SG giveaways and CV gain, with a bundle CV of 24.2865, you could gain a total of 295CV by spending $27.93, 10.5 CV per dollar (although you might want to give away only 5 or 10 copies). Spending $9.60 ($3.99 + $5.61) would give you 5 bundles and a total CV of 121 (12 CV per dollar). Spending $14.99 ($3.99 + $11 for 2 gift packs) would give you 1 bundle for yourself and 10 bundles to give away for a total CV of 210 (14 CV per dollar).

My maths aren't what they used to be so I might have made some mistakes in my calculations (´ڡ`)

So, I purchased 2 gift bundles for $12. I received 8 gifts in Indiegala inventory. How does that work? How do I extract keys or gift links for single games? Can I send the gift to my e-mail? The only option I'm seeing is sending the gift (i.e. whole bundle) to an e-mail address.

Yes, you have to send them to yourself, then extract games from there.
Used to be a bit easier in the past where you could still access them before sending, seems they changed it :( (maybe people exploited that?)

In order to get the most out of HH, you have to buy your first bundle within the first 24 hours of the bundle going live, when it's cheapest, then purchase gift bundles when HH starts. That's the formula. Real simple. The longer you wait, the less you get.

Buying bundles only during HH is not that great of a deal.

HH is about BUYING EARLY and then getting extra rewards for BUYING MORE LATER. Get it?

So, I, who bought it immediately at the discounted price, how many bundles will I get if I jump in and buy it now?

4 per "bundle" (the copy you pay for +3 bonus).
If bought before after the first week it's 3 (1+2 bonus) otherwise it's 2 (1+1 bonus)

Comment has been collapsed.

You pay like 2 bucks more but you get +3 gifts if you purchased early for yourself and the second time as a gift with raised price in HH, so you'll end up with 2 purchased bundles and get 5 at the end (1+1+3), the more gift bundles you buy during HH, the more gifts you get, (1+3, 2+6, 3+9 etc.).
