Out of curiosity, does it make much sense to hold on to the larger Groupees coins in hopes that a large ticket item comes along? I still have a Snowflake coin ($12.88) and the Jonny Anitmatter coin ($16.40). Should I just plop them down for a $4.00 purchase at some point?

If you like comics they have some use. For games they are pretty worthless unless you want an ero bundle.

Theoretically, it's possible to get a JAST VN bundle with little to no ero inclusion (versus the more common MangaReader junk-nukige bundles). But then, I recall that the last time we had a high cost bundle, they disabled coins for it.
Soooo..
Currently, it doesn't seem coins have any real use for high value [game bundle] purchasing, so if you're keen to use the coins soon, your best bet is to aim for a $4 or $5 game bundle, or aim for the more pricey of the comic or music bundles.

Perhaps I'm misrecalling it? I seemed to recall there was a limited bundle that they disabled coins for, but perhaps I was mistaken in that. Certainly seems like the last JAST bundle allowed for the use of coins, so even if my recollection is accurate, it doesn't seem to have been tied to bundle cost.

I would hope not. A lot of what 1C publishes is trash. They have also rubbed some people the wrong way in the past with being real anal about providing Steam keys in some cases. Not me personally as I was not one of those affected but I can understand the animosity.
