Lately I've been enjoying lovely trains that you people had been posting here, so I though I could create my little one for the first time.

Choo-Choo

Also, what is your favourite work of H.P. Lovecraft and why?

I've never read any of his works, but I do really enjoy playing Sunless Sea, which is often described as Lovecraftian.

Do you have a recommended starting point?

No, not really. I've personally dived really deep into his work from the very start. English isn't my native language, and yet I've ordered myself "The Complete Fiction" (which is not accessible in my mother tongue) from american Barnes & Noble and I felt pretty damn overwhelmed at the start. The language was hard to process and understand at first, but it was a lot of fun. I love languages and learning them (sadly, I do not have much time for that...), and I find English particulary beautiful and fun, so reading Lovecraft's (and Sheakespere's) original (not translated) works was a great experience. I started with shorter, more poem-like ones, like "The Cats of Ulthar" and "Memory", but if you want to dive into Lovecraftian mythos that is so popular, I would say start with The Call of Cthulhu first, and then branch out of there.

I started with "The Rats in the Walls". It was probably an anthology that opened with that title, but it was very good and made me want to read on.

I'd say my favorite is The Call of Cthulhu, but it's also the only one of his works that I've read

I must confess, I haven't read any of his work, but I heard Cthulhu is great.

I read The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories compilation, even thought horror is not my cup of tea, I enjoyed most, the Cthulhu tale alone is worth buying the book. Thanks for the train, Radvvan.

Probably The Shadow Out of Time was the most memorable for me. But I have a special fondness for this one, for obvious reasons;

I think it's The Shadow Over Innsmouth. It's got a good mix of the creeping dread and grimness of Innsmouth, then the excitement of the chase and the classic Lovecraftian twist.
