What's your "comfort zone" game?
And by that I mean a game to which you can come back and enjoy it every time.
"Comfort food" is something you take comfort in, either due to long-established familarity [be that due to nostalgia, sentimental associations, or the appreciation of reliability] or due to perceived relaxation benefits [typically through being "junky" and "accessible", as with easy-to-prepare, unhealthy food, but also due to factors like warmth and mellowness, as with a relaxing tea].
"Comfort zone" is, in a sense, the opposite, in that it's not something you inherently favor, but rather you disfavor everything outside of it. "Leaving one's comfort zone" is generally assocaited with risky or discomforting interactions, such as trying food you're skeptical of, or similar. While "comfort zone" and "comfort food" are both associated with familarity, comfort zone is associated with a broad range of things that are "normal", and used to contrast against things which are "different" or "unusual", while "comfort food"is associable to a positive form of over-familarity.
As a sort of janky example, being with family could be considered as comfort food, while being with strangers could be considered as leaving one's comfort zone. Meanwhile, being with established acquaintances (that one doesn't have any issue with) could be perceived as being within one's comfort zone. Of course, the exact associations for each section will differ per person.
So, what's your game [/] to which you can come back and enjoy it every time.
Since I play games until I'm sick of them, that doesn't really exist...
I guess, probably Hex TCG would have qualified for that, as I never once got tired of that, but that's been pulled for a couple years now.
DDO was another example of that, as were some old 90s MMOs, but DDO has changed too radically, and the other MMOs are no longer up. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines was a game I went back to dozens of times, but I did eventually get sick of it and, further, it's not accessible/junky/relaxing by nature, so it's not really what most people (and more significantly, myself) would consider comfort food to begin with.
I wish I could include Nintendo games as comfort food, but older Smash/Kart/Party games haven't aged well, and newer ones [Wii onwards] are extremely user-unfriendly (losing a lot of customization/balancing/etc options older games had) and far more RNG-based and generally sloppily developed and designed.
Card Hunter and Icewind Dale were ones I went back to a lot, as well, but also ones I eventually got over-familar with.
I guess, rather than a specific game, comfort food for me would be genres.. specifically, card games, colony sim games, 4x games, and racing games. I never get tired of those genres, and they're always extremely easy for me to get into, and I play them primarily for comforting relaxation rather than deeply invested engagement.

Well said, though there are sometimes comfort games that are also comfort zones if someone for instance loves replaying certain retro or indie games but despises the trends of broader modern AAA and non-indie games.

I'm with you, though I don't have as many comfort genres that I rarely get tired of. Stealth games are probably the ones that I am least likely to tire of. I play a lot of RPGs, turn based games, roguelites, and management games. However their appeal to me tends to vary widely from game to game, especially roguelites when I come across ones that lean in on git gud (really steep difficulty/learning curves) without proportionally higher engaging core gameplay.

Woah, veteran WoW player!
Are you excited for The Dragonflight Expansion that announce last night? I've been a fan of Warcraft universe and play WoW classic (Til WotLK Expansion) and keep following the lore via wowhead & several wiki site. I might as well comeback for this expansion tho.

I tried wow a bit at the end of 2006/start of 2007. but didnt fully start playing the game with my own account til 2009, have mained the same character ever since, but have played all classes to some extent every expansion, leveling them all to max level.
Was unsure about my future with wow after everything that happened at the end of 9.0 and start of 9.1, but returned anyways at the start of 9.2
Yeah i got super hyped yesterday.
I really hope they learn from past mistakes, and don't repeat a lot of the dumb stuff they did in bfa and shadowlands, and well even at the start/mid legion.
But most of the changes they have done in 9.1.5 and 9.2 so far seems to indicate that they are on the right track.
And in terms of lore, i also wanna add that i have read almost all the books :D

This is going to be a bit of a trite answer, but «Minecraft» is the perfect choice. Over ten years later, still want to look into it at least once a year, just to get away from everything and build something. For me, "comfort zone" is a game where you can really relax.
Also, beat 'em up's could be included here. These are always quite short, if talk about classic ones. Simple and fun, especially in the company of someone.

Funny enough, my "comfort zone" are RPGs in general, but mostly "World of Warcraft".
That is a game I can play for hours and hours and not even see the time pass.
It helped me a lot with social anxiety, depression and stuff like that, so it'll always have a precious spot in my heart.
PS:
Death of The Endless is one of the best characters EVER #ChangeMyMind

I finished the Yakuza series some time ago, but just recetly decided to play Yakuza 0 once again. And that's my "comfort zone" game. I love everything about this title... great, touching story, hilarious substories, enjoyable minigames, awesome fighting styles, Majima ♥
I even learned how to play Mahjong specifically for the completion list in Yakuza 0 and now I really like it, heh!
So, what's your "comfort zone" game?
