Bump!
On one hand, it's so sad to see people jump to opposition, hatred and violence when confronted with something that challenges their established ideas of reality, even if it doesn't negatively impact them personally while improving the lives of others. It's especially jarring when they come up with crazy explanations for why those other people can't really be feeling what they claim they're feeling.
Like the idea that trans people are just doing it for attention. As if it's a "trend" and if it's not opposed, young people might start going trans en masse! I have yet to see anyone explain how making yourself the target of derision, discrimination and violence is supposed to be desirable. It's the same nonsense as the homophobic panic from earlier about children being raised to become gay somehow. Hell, it's also like people saying ADHD diagnosis is a "trend" and trying to deny medication to those who desperately need it.
Then there's Ray Blanchard and his Autogynephilia. Coming up with personal rationalizations that let you keep being a shithead without feeling like a bad person is one thing, but attempting to infect mainstream science and medical practice with those rationalizations is just despicable. He's as deserving of his medical license as Andrew Wakefield, and yet somehow got appointed to work on the next DSM.
What's more, if you happen to care about the cause of a group that you aren't part of, you must be "virtue signalling"! I often wonder if the people who say that are a very loud minority of actual sociopaths, or if people otherwise capable of empathy can so easily lose the ability to even imagine their opponents having empathy.
Anyway, on the other hand, I'm glad to be living in a period of history when such nonsense is set to permanently end within my lifetime. Barring some catastrophic regression.
Though I do wish my country was making better progress.

Nice post.
I'm not worth much, but I am no longer worthless.
An individual's worth is largely determined by what is in his or her heart, and only God knows that.

Huge respect for having the strength and courage to be who you are, even when people can't accept it as easily as other.
I don't think I would have the strength to be myself in your situation. Keep it up.

Please don't pat me on the back for being true and myself. I present myself as punk rock, when I'm a terrible activist. I can't do it throigh the arts, I can't play guitar or cello, can't sing, can't songwrite, can't draw, cant mold or whittle 'cause I can't find the inspiration or motivation. I wasn't even good at any of them besides writing, but I can't do it anymore. And in the streets activism I'm even worse at, I can't get past my anxiety of fucking talking to people and I wanna breakdown the government.
That's why this is on sg. I wanna say fuck society but I'm too much of a fucking pussy.
I'm not real. I'm not courageous, and I'm certainly not strong. Don't respect me for that.

Today is Trans day of visibility, which I'm not sure how I feel about. It's supposed to be more positive than trans day of remembrance, but the real world ain't always positive. Being trans is the indirect death to a lot of us. But it's also the reason we're alive.
Being my real self has allowed me to engage with the world. I mean, I'm still crushed by my depression, and suffocated by my anxiety, but now I have a job, girlfriend, and friends (well sorta). I'm not worth much, but I am no longer worthless.
Not hiding who I am is amazing, but it's also fucking dangerous. As free as I now am, I'm also limited by how other perceive me. I can no longer use public restrooms, I've been berated and questioned for trying, and others in my area have been assaulted. Some have been killed for being trans in my area.* I've had to become an activist not out of a sense of purpose or cause, but merely out of self preservation.
I can't be apolitical because who I am is for some reason politically charged. We're not policy that's going to change your life. We're just people all around you who want to live a peaceful life.
I assume all y'all have at least here of transgender people through the news the last few years, but I suggest you actually look at what we actually are.
If anyone has better/more links, please pt them in comment.

*Where I live it's only a handful a year instead of a handful a month like in other places. It's still way too much, and I'm not gonna talk about the places that are even worse because I can't relate to them really. Just thought I should say because of last time.
