I give out games because 本地化檔案已更新, Lokalisointitiedostot päivitetty, Arquivos de localização atualizados, 언어 파일 업데이트, Lokalisierungsdateien aktualisiert.
And because I rarely ever win anything so it's nice to give others like myself a chance at winning something.

I understand the fuss about people not playing the game you gifted. It would also be wise to remember that there might be reasons for it. I won Half Life 2 Episode 1 but haven't played it. Reason is because I wait to get my hands on Episode 2 so I can play them both in one run.
As my current library has something like 50+ unfinished games, getting that Episode 2 is not at the top of my to-do list. I will, however, play it someday as I intent to finish all my titles. Cannot speak for all but unplayed game does not always equal that it is disregarded.

Yes, I know sometimes people can't play them right away. I myself haven't played some of the games I won as much as I would like, but I will.
However, there's 3 guys who won games by me 5 months ago and they haven't played a single minute of them. Other who won a recent giveaway don't even have the game on his library. That's the kind of thing that pisses me off. That, and previous winners that had to be rerolled because they already had the game.

It might be a bit nasty at times, true. One of the reasons people might give games away is because they have no use for them and wish that someone would play them instead. Just transferring it from one box to another to collect dust is not useful. Clear abuses like selling/trading the gift away are completely another story.

Although I haven't made any give away's on this site yet, I do it for the same reason most rich people donate to charity. To increase how positively the community views me, and to make myself feel better about myself. Or because I have money, and can't decide what game to get, so I just gift someone a game they want :|

I'm not a big gifter, I have only given away a couple of games on this site. However, all the gifts I've gifted have been given because I wanted to sustain the nature of the site and because I figured someone who wanted to play that game would be happy to receive it.
That doesn't happen, however, as every single giveaway I've made I have run into problems. People who traded what they received, people who have yet to play it, people who already had the game (and felt ENTITLED to it!) and now, more than one person mocking me because I'm giving away two old games (not GOG consumers, it seems). This type of asshollery really pisses me off as I could have saved the money to use on myself or, in the case of giftable copies I got for free, traded them for something else.
So, why exactly do YOU give games away? Do you genuinely want to make someone happy? Maybe you just want to boost your ego? Or you're trying to get into a private group? Please discuss.
