Quick question, should we have private and group giveaways viewable on profiles, simply without the links to open them? Right now it seems the site offers a way for abusers to hide a little too easily, and a number of giveaway creators have questions about their winners since they're allowed to see so few details.

Regarding begging, we'll be able to act on users fairly quick with the new user reporting system, so I don't think we'll need to worry about people messaging those with private giveaways.

And for puzzles, you'll be able to confirm a user does in fact have a private giveaway setup, and you'll know the game, so you don't need to worry about solving the puzzle to find a game already in your library.

Thoughts?

quick question. unless a users steamid and steamgifts login are the same, how would someone being harassed even link the person to their SG account username so as to report them?

and second, you have to admit that the report feature doesnt exactly have a fast turnaround. Its been 2 days since I made a user report AND a giveaway report, and nothing has yet happened.

but mainly my first question. how does someone match a steamid to a SG profile if the user hasnt made them both the same?

Have you actually opened someone's SG profile, ever? The Steam link's right there.

I think it is a good idea but I suggest some changes. Make the status of the gifts won by a user, that is received/not received, also viewable on the user profile without having to actually go to the giveaway page. This will prevent someone from assuming that a user who won but did not redeem a game is violating the site rules.

As for puzzle makers, some of us like to keep the games we are giving away a secret, at least sometimes. This emphasizes the puzzle itself and it also has an element of surprise. Not everyone likes this but we should be able to set the rules of the puzzle, and if they don't like it then they shouldn't bother solving it. Thats is why I think it is best that you keep private giveaways unviewable until they are over, then make them viewable.

I support the idea. I can see it bumming some puzzle giveaway makers' plans if it were to show which game it is before the giveaway ends, but I see nothing bad coming from being able to see them after they're finished.

Definitely YES! What are we hiding anyway? Well for group giveaways even clickable links isnt a problem since only group members can look at them.
I suggested this many times before and I think begging shouldn't stop this feature this time ^_^

Also even for puzzle giveaways just seeing the prize game shouldnt ruin the fun and this can actually be prevented if you make this feature available only after giveaway time ends..

If we make group giveaways clickable after they're ended, a lot of people are going to be begged for an invite. No thanks.

Let's not fret about little shit like this when real problems like "the entire support staff is one person" are still a thing.

Yes, please.

For puzzle makers, keeping the number of open private giveaways might be something they want to obfuscate/conceal.

Suggestion:

How about showing private giveaways only AFTER they are finished?

The better way would be to add them with links but AFTER they end imo

Ah yes yes think it's a good idea, but I am one of the poeple who'd prefer to show the giveaway to show after they ended.

Yes. Once a private/group giveaway has been completed, showing that it at least happened on someone's profile should not be an issue.

But only after it has finished, not before. There must remain some privacy.

1) When they ended.
2) We really need more moderators. I'm sick of reporting users since weeks ago and they still aren't banned.

Yes, after giveaways are finished - also, I want to see if the giveaway was marked as received or not, it would save a lot of our time and support's time. Or show only if received.

I think the creators of the giveaway should be able to choose if either hide their giveaway or show it. Abusers will always hide everything, you say? Well, this option will be available only for old users and/or high value contributors (their previous contributions will be viewable, of course). You should offer also other options, such as hiding the giveaway's comments' content or description.
Showing the game for puzzle giveaways can ruin the fun. Some gifters wish people to discover the game by themselves.
